Successful treatment of pulmonary Nocardia farcinica infection with linezolid: case report and literature review

Abstract: nocardia infection is rare but potentially fatal. therapy of nocardia infection remains difficult. linezolid, a novel oxazolidinone antibiotic, has proven to be effective, but clinical data are limited. here we describe a case of a 45-year-old man with pulmonary n. farcinica infection following a liver transplantation. the initial therapy was trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, which showed no effect. according to susceptibility test, linezolid was administered with clearly improving the patient's condition. the treatment was stopped for anemia as drug related adverse event, and the therapy lasted for as long as 5 months. at the end of treatment clinical cure was confirmed and anemia reversed after discontinuation of linezolid. we also analyzed the clinical data of previously published reports by literature review, focusing on the efficacy and safety of linezolid treatment for nocardia infection.

Abstract: Three concepts of multivalued contractions in complete metric spaces are introduced, and the conditions guaranteeing the existence of fixed points for the multivalued contractions are established. The results obtained in this paper extend genuinely a few fixed point theorems due to iri (2009) Feng and Liu (2006) and Klim and Wardowski (2007). Five examples are given to explain our results.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to study solvability of the second-order nonlinear neutral delay difference equation . By making use of the Rothe fixed point theorem, Leray-Schauder nonlinear alternative theorem, Krasnoselskill fixed point theorem, and some new techniques, we obtain some sufficient conditions which ensure the existence of uncountably many bounded positive solutions for the above equation. Five nontrivial examples are given to illustrate that the results presented in this paper are more effective than the existing ones in the literature. 1. Introduction It is well known that the oscillation, nonoscillation, asymptotic behavior, and existence of solutions for second-order difference equations with delays have been widely studied in many papers over the last 20 years, see, for example, [1–9] and the references cited therein. Recently, Cheng [5] considered the second-order neutral delay linear difference equation with positive and negative coefficients and investigated the existence of a nonoscillatory solution of (1.1) under the condition by using the Banach fixed point theorem. M. Migda and J. Migda [9] and Luo and Bainov [8] discussed the asymptotic behaviors of nonoscillatory solutions for the second-order neutral difference equation with maxima and the second-order neutral difference equation Cheng and Chu [2] got sufficient and necessary conditions of the oscillatory solutions for the second-order difference equation Li and Yeh [6] established some oscillation criteria of the second-order delay difference equation Using the Leray-Schauder nonlinear alternative theorem, Agarwal et al. [1] studied the existence of nonoscillatory solutions for the discrete equation under the condition . Very recently, Liu et al. [7] utilized the Banach contraction principle to establish the global existence and multiplicity of bounded nonoscillatory solutions for the second-order nonlinear neutral delay difference equation Motivated by the results in [1–9], in this paper, we discuss the solvability of the second-order nonlinear neutral delay difference equation where , ,?? , , ,?? and It is clear that (1.1)–(1.7) are special cases of (1.8). By utilizing the Rothe fixed point theorem, Leray-Schauder nonlinear alternative theorem, Krasnoselskill fixed point theorem, and a few new techniques, we prove the existence of uncountably many bounded positive solutions of (1.8). Abstract: We report a case of necrotizing pneumonia in a young patient caused by community acquired-methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) in a teaching hospital in the People’s Republic of China. The patient had a typical clinical presentation and was successfully treated with antibiotics and intravenous immunoglobulin. A CA-MRSA strain, named SA268, was isolated from the blood of the patient. The isolate was susceptible to most antimicrobial agents, except cephalosporins, penicillins, and β-lactamase inhibitor combinations. Multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) assigned SA268 to ST59, a clone widely spread in eastern Asia. The strain was positive for Panton Valentine Leukocidin (PVL)-encoding genes and SCCmec type V. We sequenced the complete genome of the SA268 isolate. The genome of SA268 was almost identical to that of the Taiwanese ST59 CA-MRSA strains M013 and SA957. However, we observed several differences in gene composition, which included differences in the SCCmec element and several lipoprotein genes that were present in the Taiwanese strains but absent from SA268.

Abstract: retinoic acid receptor is a transcription factor in the cell nucleus that binds retinoic acid. the ligand binding domain of human gamma retinoic acid receptor, its complex with retinoic acid and its interaction with retinoic acid binding protein i, were studied by means of mass spectrometric methods. the pathway of delivering retinoic acid from donor to acceptor was monitored online. no ternary complex involving retinoic acid and the two proteins was observed, indicating that the transport of retinoic acid from retinoic acid binding protein i to its receptor may follow a two step mechanism, which involves dissociation of retinoic acid from the donor protein into the aqueous phase, followed by association with the acceptor.

Abstract: 采用钛醇盐水解法与溶胶凝胶法,以氨水、尿素、三乙胺为氮源,制备了纳米TiO2-xNx光催化剂。为了在净化室内空气的同时能够装饰环境,提出了喷涂和浸泡2种工艺将光催化剂负载于室内装饰品,并在模拟太阳光的照射下对室内污染物甲醛进行降解。XRD、UV-Vis光谱及XPS分析结果表明,在烧结温度为400℃时得到的3种TiO2-xNx是锐钛矿相,其中以尿素为氮源的TiO2-xNx温度达到600℃时开始发生相转变,3种TiO2-xNx在可见光区域的400~550 nm均出现新的吸收;以氨水、尿素和三乙胺为氮源制备的TiO2-xNx的掺氮量分别为2.77%、0.29%和0.47%。以氨水为氮源制备的光催化剂,14 h降解甲醛的效率达到了95%;以三乙胺为氮源制备的光催化剂7 h降解甲醛的效率达到了96%。因此,应用喷涂法在室内装饰品上负载光催化剂降解室内污染物具有很好的应用前景。
