Evaluation of Parents’ Awareness and Knowledge about Problems and Issues Related to Their Premature Infants in an Iranian Hospital  [PDF]

Abstract: Premature infant is an infant who was born before the end of 37th weeks of pregnancy. Approximately 9.6% of infants are premature and they can be at risk for hospitalization. This study has done for evaluation of awareness and knowledge of parents about problems of premature infants in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This was a descriptive study with 160 parents whose premature infants were admitted to NICU (Tehran-Iran, 2009-2011). Data were collected by a questionnaire for evaluation of awareness and knowledge of parents about problems of prematurity, and then analyzed by using descriptive analytic statistical methods and SPSS software. Based on the results, there was a significant relation between age and the total score of questionnaire (P = 0.022, R = 0.18). Mothers had higher awareness and knowledge than fathers (P < 0.05). The most awareness in parents was about doing of hygienic principle when they entered to NICU and about the importance of regularly and continuous attendance in ward. Awareness and knowledge of parents about problems of their premature infant were related to their age and being a mother or father. Parents had little knowledge about some NICU principles and premature infant’s needs and care.
Evaluation of the Patients, Doctors and Nurses View Points about Patient Bill of Rights in Rasht Public Hospitals

Abstract: Background & Objective: With the aim to clarify the rights of the patients on the basis of medical ethic norms, Patient Bill of Rights in five categories was developed in Iran for the first time, during 2002. The main objective of this study was to determine the views of patients, physicians and nurses about this aspect of medical ethics and its necessary to comply in Rasht public hospitals. Materials &Methods: In this cross-sectional study the data were collected by filling a reliable and validated questionnaire consisting of demographic part and 25 specific questions about the rights of patients, these questions were answered By 185 patients, 22 nurses and 14 doctors. Each of the criteria necessary to use was measured by the Likert scale from zero (completely disagree) to five (fully agree). SPSS software 16 and one way ANOVA tests were used for data analysis. Result: The results showed that all groups were agreeing with the necessity to have a bill and consider the patient's rights during treatment (P<0.05). But the most controversial point were related to the rights of patient to have access to their information and the right to choose and decide (P<0.05). However, 68.2 percent of physicians, 80.05 percent of nurses, and 93 percent of patients were agreed with the Bill of Rights. Conclusion: Although all the groups were agreed with the patient's Bill of rights (P<0.05), It seems it is necessary to reconsider the issue of providing the necessary information to the patient and give attention to their choices and decisions by the medical health service providers.
Quality of Life in the Iranian Adults with Allergic Rhinitis

Abstract: Allergic Rhinitis (AR) is a common global health problem with approximately one quarter of the world population affected. The Quality of Life (QOL) of sufferers with AR is significantly affected. The aim of this study was to evaluate the QOL of adults with AR. This study was designed for adults with AR above 18 years old. The study was conducted using a valid Rhinitis Quality of Life Questionnaires (RQLQ) which was completed for each patient during clinic visit and analyzed by applying statistical methods. One-hundred and ten AR patients participated in this study. Mean age of these patients was 32 years old and 62% were female.The correlation between severity of AR and QOL impairment was significant. Frequencies of mild persistent, moderate-severe persistent, mild intermittent and moderate-severe intermittent types of AR were 18%, 34.5%, 9% and 38%, respectively. Completed RQLQ indicated that about 55% of the cases were suffering from severe disturbances in their QOL. Furthermore, congestion (88%) was the most common symptom. The correlation between congestion and QOL reduction was significant. The correlation between congestion and sleep impairment was significant. AR was more common in young as well as female patients and their QOL was affected more than the others. The results showed a good relevancy between severity of symptoms and QOL scores.Consisting with ARIA classification, it was found that reduction in the quality of life is higher in patients with moderate-severe intermittent and persistent asthma. Nasal congestion was a bothersome and prevalent symptom in AR that was responsible for sleep problems. Therefore, nasal congestion was associated with sleep-disordered breathing, nocturnal sleep impairment, day time fatigue and somnolence which finally lead to QOL impairment.
Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome (ALPS) in a Boy with Massive Lymphadenopathy

Abstract: Autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS) is an uncommon nonmalignant lymphoproliferative disease which is characterized by chronic, persistent or recurrent lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, hepatomegaly, immune cytopenia, hypergammaglobinemia and increased risk of lymphoma. We report a 2-year old boy with hepatosplenomegaly as first presentation. Petechial and purpuric rashes with massive cervical lymphadenopathies developed 10 months later. In laboratory tests anemia, thrombocytopenia and hypergammaglobinemia were observed. According to flocytometry increased double negative T cells and by apoptosis assay decrease apoptosis of lymphocytes accompanied clinical manifestations, thus diagnosis of ALPS was established. In conclusion; in all patients with massive lymphadenopathy and hepatosplenomegay; especially with cytopenia; ALPS should be considered.
Estimation and Comparison of Solar Radiation Intensity by Some Models in a Region of Iran  [PDF]

Abstract: Due to the increasing explanation of new energy application on a world scale and because of the reduction of environmental pollution arise from usage of solar energy in high potential regions, the necessity of solar radiation measurement in different regions of Iran is obvious. Therefore, in this study, the amount of radiation is measured by Pyranometer from beginning of February to August 2010 in Semnan (The central part of Iran), and it is compared with daily sunny hours, different estimated models of daily radiation such as Angstrom-Pryskat (Montis, Climate classification based on the Terwartha scientific map, using the results of 40 worldwide station, using the results of 9 Synoptic stations in Iran), the Maximum likelihood (using the results of 100 stations in worldwide, using the results of 9 Synoptic station in Iran). Finally, Terwartha scientific map model is proposed because of matching more with measured data on location.
Heat Transfer Analysis in Cooling System of Hydropower’s Generator  [PDF]

Abstract: Cooling process of power plant generator is handled via air-cooled radiators in which the cooling water is supplied from lake with its water temperature varies from season to season. In this study, the effect of temperature fluctuations of cooling water entering the cooling system has been examined via analysis of energy (NTU method) and exergy. The exergy analysis has been done by definition of efficiency coefficient for exergy of cooling media (water) and heating media (air). Besides, the effect of changing the cooling water temperature and flow rate entering the radiators on the cooling system performance has been studied. The results revealed the generator cooling system performance level held sufficient till the temperature of inlet water was kept under 293 k (20°C). On one hand, when the temperature of cooling water at the inlet rises to 12°C, the rate of heat exchange at radiators falls up to 34.3%. On the other hand, by water temperature passing the 12°C limit, the efficiency of cooling media exergy falls to 78% leading to efficiency rise in radiators’ heating media exergy level to 61%. According to the results of this study, changing flow rate of cooling media up to 40% gives rise to the efficiency coefficient of radiators’ cooling media exergy level to about 18.7%. While it does not affect the efficiency level of energy at radiators, the flow rate rise of cooling media may not be considered as a way to give rise to efficiency level of radiators.
Technical-economical optimization of horizontal axis wind turbines by means of the genetic algorithm  [PDF]

Wind turbine design is a trade-off between its potentially generated energy and manufacturing cost represented by the area of turbine surface in this research, and both factors are highly influenced by a number of design parameters. In this research, first, a weighted sum of these factors, with a negative weight for power, is assumed as the performance function to be minimized. Then, blade element modeling was performed for class NACA turbines to estimate the generated power based on the effective wind velocity in the area. As a novelty, a new algorithm based on fuzzy logic was proposed to determine the effective wind velocity by using the history of wind velocity in the area. The wind velocity, therefore, the generated power by a wind turbine, is largely dependent on its operation area. In the end, the genetic algorithm with decimal numeric genes was employed to determine the optimal design parameters of the turbine based on the recorded data. This study resulted in a computer program which integrated calculations of fluid dynamics into the genetic algorithm to optimally determine an appropriate turbine (its geometric parameters). The implementation of the proposed method on two different regions ended up with the design of the blade NACA5413 for Manjil and the blade NACA4314 for Semnan, both in Iran.

Comparison of the Stress, Sexual Disfunction, and Mental Happiness Coping Strategies in Two Groups of Normal Married Women and Women with Marital Conflicts  [PDF]

Abstract: In the era that rapid and unpredictable changes have happened in human life, the family is still one of the sources that have a prominent role in protecting people, their social and emotional support, but data from past decades indicate an increase in divorce rates both in the world and in Iran. The present research aimed to compare coping strategies with stress, sexual disfunction, mental happiness in two groups of normal married women and women with marital conflicts. The research employed a causal-comparative method. The statistical population included all normal married women and women with marital conflicts who referred to counseling centers in Yazd city in 2016-2017. To this end, 150 women (75 normal married women and 75 women with marital conflicts) were selected using available sampling method. They completed the Lazarus and Fulkman (1985), Female Sexual Function Index (ROS) (2000), Panas Mental Happiness (1988) questionnaires. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Independent T-test in SPSS software. The findings showed that there is a difference between strategies for coping with stress, sexual disfunction, and mental happiness in both married women and women with marital conflicts.

Abstract: In this paper some of the important problems and issues such as human and communication errors in safety and civil aviation management are presented. The problems arise from misleading information from different sources. To avoid the above problems, a centralization of the information is proposed here. To centralize the information for Air Traffic Management (ATM), a mining data routing system called SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system is suggested in this study. The utilization of SCADA system will helps to capture air traffic information and aircraft data via satellite technology and transfer it to data mining center and then to central organization. The stored digital data will exchange the information between different organizations and will be used by management systems. The stored reliable information helps to make an appropriate decision in the Air Traffic Management system.
