A Geometrical Theorem about the Static Equilibrium of a Common-point-force System and its Application  [PDF]

A geometrical theorem for the static equilibrium of a common-point-force system has been proven by means of virtual-work principle: The equilibrium point of a common-point force system has a minimal weighted distance summation to every fixed point arbitrarily given on each force line with a weighing factor proportional to corresponding force value. Especially the mechanical simulating technique for its inverse problem has been realized by means of pulley block. The conclusions for the inverse problem derived from mechanic method are in accordance with that given by the pure mathematical method, and the self-consistence of the theorem and its inverse problem has been demonstrated. Some application examples in engineering, economy and mathematics have been discussed, especially the possible application in the research of molecular structure, has also been predicted.

Effects of Yiqi Huayu Recipe and its decomposed formulas on apoptosis-related factors of anulus fibrosus cells in rats

Abstract: Objective: To study the effects of Yiqi Huayu Recipe and its decomposed formulas-medicated sera on expressions of bcl-2, Bax and caspase-8 of apoptotic anulus fibrosus cells in rats. Methods: Immunohistochemical and integral optical density analytic methods were used to observe the effects of Yiqi Huayu Recipe-, Yiqi Recipe-, Huayu Recipe-medicated sera and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) on the expressions of bcl-2, Bax and caspase-8 of apoptotic anulus fibrosus cells in rats induced by anti-Fas antibody. Results: As compared with apoptosis group, bcl-2 expression was higher, Bax and caspase-8 expressions were lower in Yiqi Huayu-treated, Yiqi-treated, Huayu-treated and IGF-1 groups (P<0.01). As compared with Yiqi-treated group and Huayu-treated group, Bax expression was lower in Yiqi Huayu-treated group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Yiqi Huayu Recipe and its decompsed formulas can delay degeneration of the cervical intervertebral disc, which may be due to its action in regulating the expressions of bcl-2, Bax and caspase-8.
Temporal evolution and scaling of mixing in two-dimensional Rayleigh-Taylor turbulence

Abstract: We report a high-resolution numerical study of two-dimensional (2D) miscible Rayleigh-Taylor (RT) incompressible turbulence with the Boussinesq approximation. An ensemble of 100 independent realizations were performed at small Atwood number and unit Prandtl number with a spatial resolution of $2048\times8193$ grid points. Our main focus is on the temporal evolution and the scaling behavior of global quantities and of small-scale turbulence properties. Our results show that the buoyancy force balances the inertial force at all scales below the integral length scale and thus validate the basic force-balance assumption of the Bolgiano-Obukhov scenario in 2D RT turbulence. It is further found that the Kolmogorov dissipation scale $\eta(t)\sim t^{1/8}$, the kinetic-energy dissipation rate $\varepsilon_u(t)\sim t^{-1/2}$, and the thermal dissipation rate $\varepsilon_{\theta}(t)\sim t^{-1}$. All of these scaling properties are in excellent agreement with the theoretical predictions of the Chertkov model [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{91}, 115001 (2003)]. We further discuss the emergence of intermittency and anomalous scaling for high order moments of velocity and temperature differences. The scaling exponents $\xi^r_p$ of the $p$th-order temperature structure functions are shown to saturate to $\xi^r_{\infty}\simeq0.78\pm0.15$ for the highest orders, $p\sim10$. The value of $\xi^r_{\infty}$ and the order at which saturation occurs are compatible with those of turbulent Rayleigh-B\'{e}nard (RB) convection [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{88}, 054503 (2002)], supporting the scenario of universality of buoyancy-driven turbulence with respect to the different boundary conditions characterizing the RT and RB systems.
The Evaluation of Measurement Uncertainty and Its Application in the Vacuum Pressure Measurement  [PDF]

Abstract: In order to accurately measure the pressure and the pressure difference between two points in the vacuum chamber, a large number of experimental data were used to research the performance of the three capacitance diaphragm gauge and analysis the main influences of the uncertainly degree of pressure in the process. In this paper, three kind of uncertainty, such as the single uncertainty, the synthesis uncertainty and the expanded uncertainty of the three capacitance diaphragm gauges are introduced in detail in pressure measurement. The results show that the performance difference of capacitance diaphragm gauge can be very influential to the accuracy of the pressure difference measurement and the uncertainty of different pressure can be very influential to pressure measurement. That for accurately measuring pressure and pressure difference has certain reference significance.
Charge Moment Tensor and the Magnetic Moment of Rotational Charged Bodies

Abstract: Based on the strict and delicate analogue relation between the magnetic moment of rotational charged bodies and the rotation inertia of rigid bodies, a new concept of charge moment tensor I which is different from the existent electric multiple moment is introduced in this paper. And by means of eigenvalue theory of tensor I , the concept of principal axes and principal-axis scalar charge moment are constructed, and further the scalar charge moment of a charged body and the magnetic moment of a rotational charged body around an arbitrary direction are attained. The relationship between the scalar charge moment distributive law of quadric camber and the positive or negative definiteness of tensor I are discussed. Meanwhile Some principles or theorems are extended, generalized, illustrated, and enumerated.
Rotational Stability of a Charged Dielectric Rigid Body in a Uniform Magnetic Field

Abstract: Based on a new concept, i.e., charge moment tensor and the rotational equation of a charged dielectric rigid body about a fixed-point under a uniform external magnetic field, one symmetrical case has been rigorously solved. The rotational stability has been analyzed in detail for two cases, general and symmetrical, respectively, by means of some techniques of matrix analysis.

Abstract: Through the analysis of the probability density function of the squared largest singular value of a complex Gaussian matrix at the origin and tail, we obtain two asymptotic results related to the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) maximum-ratio-transmission/maximum-ratio-combining (MRT/MRC) systems. One is the asymptotic error performance (in terms of SNR) in a single-user system, and the other is the asymptotic system capacity (in terms of the number of users) in the multiuser scenario when multiuser diversity is exploited. Similar results are also obtained for two other MIMO diversity schemes, space-time block coding and selection combining. Our results reveal a simple connection with system parameters, providing good insights for the design of MIMO diversity systems.
A Sun Tracking System Design for a Large Dish Solar Concentrator  [PDF]

Energy crisis promotes the development of renewable energy, especially the solar energy. Sun tracking system proposed in this paper is such a device for efficiency improvement. This closed loop tracking system with two axis sun tracking method is controlled by a programmable logic controller (PLC) and is used for a large dish solar collector. A combination tracking mode combined active and passive tracking methods used in the design make the tracker efficient whatever the circumstances. Two stepper motors and two reduction boxes move the device towards the sun with chain transmission. Besides sun tracking, the system also has functions of overheat monitoring, wind speed monitoring and measurement of illumination.

Numerical Study on the Impact of GongJi Road Rain Pump on the Waterlogging in Huinan, Pudong District  [PDF]

To study the rainstorm waterlogging disaster in Huinan, Pudong District, an urban waterlogging model coupled with the rainfall runoff sub-model, underground network sub-model and the overland flow sub-model has been set up by MIKE FLOOD. After the validation with the actual reports of the waterlogging in Huinan on Oct. 8th, 2013, the model is adopted to simulate the overland flood before and after Gongji Road Rain Pump works to study the impact of Gongji Road Rain Pump on the waterlogging disaster. The results are analyzed and the conclusions are obtained: when Gongji Road Rain Pump runs, the total flooded area will significantly decrease to .49 km2, about 21%, meanwhile, the drowned duration will be shortened in 6 hours, ahead 10 hours. Therefore, Gongji Road Rain Pump can alleviate the waterlogging, but some other measures are still needed to be taken to solve the waterlogging disaster.

Application of Variance Component Analysis (ANOVA) in Setup Errors and PTV Margins for Lung Cancer with Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)  [PDF]

Abstract: Purpose: To investigate the feasibility of applying ANOVA newly proposed by Yukinori to verify the setup errors, PTV (Planning Target Volume) margins, DVH for lung cancer with SBRT. Methods: 20 patients receiving SBRT to 50 Gy in 5 fractions with a Varian iX linear acceleration were selected. Each patient was scanned with kV-CBCT before the daily treatment to verify the setup position. Two other error calculation methods raised by Van Herk and Remeijer were also compared to discover the statistical difference in systematic errors (Σ), random errors (σ), PTV margins and DVH. Results: Utilizing two PTV margin calculation formulas (Stroom, Van Herk), PTV calculated by Yukinori method in three directions were (5.89 and 3.95), (5.54 and 3.55), (3.24 and 0.78) mm; Van Herk method were (6.10 and 4.25), (5.73 and 3.83), (3.51 and 1.13) mm; Remeijer method were (6.39 and 4.57), (5.98 and 4.10), (3.69 and 1.33) mm. The volumes of PTV using Yukinori method were significantly smaller (P < 0.05) than Van Herk method and Remeijer method. However, dosimetric indices of PTV (D98, D50, D2) and for OARs (Mean Dose, V20, V5) had no significant difference (P > 0.05) among three methods. Conclusions: In lung SBRT treatment, due to fraction reduction and high level of dose per fraction, ANOVA was able to offset the effect of random factors in systematic errors, reducing the PTV margins and volumes. However, no distinct dose distribution improvement was founded in target volume and organs at risk.
