Intelligent Load Management Scheme for a Residential Community in Smart Grids Network Using Fair Emergency Demand Response Programs  [PDF]

Abstract: In the framework of liberalized deregulated electricity market, dynamic competitive environment exists between wholesale and retail dealers for energy supplying and management. Smart Grids topology in form of energy management has forced power supplying agencies to become globally competitive. Demand Response (DR) Programs in context with smart energy network have influenced prosumers and consumers towards it. In this paper Fair Emergency Demand Response Program (FEDRP) is integrated for managing the loads intelligently by using the platform of Smart Grids for Residential Setup. The paper also provides detailed modelling and analysis of respective demands of residential consumers in relation with economic load model for FEDRP. Due to increased customer’s partaking in this program the load on the utility is reduced and managed intelligently during emergency hours by providing fair and attractive incentives to residential clients, thus shifting peak load to off peak hours. The numerical and graphical results are matched for intelligent load management scenario.
REVIEW: Current Status of Extenders and Cryoprotectants on Fish Spermatozoa Cryopreservation

Abstract: An important component of many studies of cryopreservation of fish spermatozoa is the type of extenders and cryoprotectants. The suitability of extenders and cryoprotectants differs from one fish to another. There are many studies have been done in cryopreservation of fish spermatozoa. However, there are few review have been done. This review reveals some aspects of cryopreservation especially the role of extender and cryoprotectant in fish sperm cryopreservation. Fish produce high viscosity of sperm and in some cases only small volume is produced. Before cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen, sperm have to dilute with extenders and for long-term cryopreservation, cryoprotectants are needed to protect the sperm cell from cold and hot shock treatments and prevent cell dehydration during pre-freezing, freezing and post thawed. The suitability of extenders and cryoprotectants differs from one fish to another. Over the last decade, studies on the cryopreservation of mammalian sperm, animal husbandry sperm and human sperm have progressed significantly but studies on fish sperm is still confined to some aquatic.
Determining the rational technological parameters of heatresistant concrete produced with sodium silicate binder

Abstract: Heat-resistant concrete is one of the most effective refractory materials. Using such concrete reduces the time of construction by 3-4 times, it decreases the labor costs during the construction of thermal units by 2-3 times, increases the working life of the thermal unit and, therefore, reduces the costs of maintenance and major repairs.This paper deals with heat-resistant concrete based on a sodium-silicate composite binder, regarded as an alternative to refractory concrete based on liquid glass.It brings the results of comprehensive research on the selection of rational technological modes of preparation, molding and thermal treatment of refractory concrete composite on sodium-silicate binder. In particular, the method of preparing the concrete mix is chosen. The author sets the method and mode of formation of products and determines the regime of concrete thermal treatment.These results were approbated in a plant of CJSC "Experimental Research and Production Enterprise". The approbation results showed the high techno-economic efficiency of the developed heatresistant concrete on composite sodium silicate binder.

Abstract: Imaging is a keystone for the understanding and delivery of craniofacial health care and recent developments have led to many diverse technologies and approaches. This paper reviews new developments in three-dimensional imaging, as well as three-dimensional facial image acquisition. Visualization and convergence of the data from these technologies are also described for construction of patient-specific models.

Abstract: The goal of the research is to analyze the dynamics of the clinical picture at multiple sclerosis (MS) patients living in Rostov region, who got the disease over the 1965 to 2010 period. The clinical data of 505 MS patients have been analyzed (age, gender, MS onset peculiarities, speed of MS progression, the time of reaching 3,4 and 6 EDSS scores). Worsening of the natural MS course over recent decades in population of Rostov region has been identifed. Taking into account the multifactor nature of multiple sclerosis, the fact of worsening can be explained by the increase of negative environmental infuence, which should be considered while medico-prophylactic organizations.
Evaluation of Hypoglycemic Activity of Opuntia dillenii Haw Fruit Juice in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats

Abstract: Background: Opuntia dillenii Haw fruit is used in folk medicine as an antidiabetic agent. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible curative role of O. dillenii fruit juice using the streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. The nutritive value of the edible portion of the fruit was also assessed. Results: The results showed that O. dillenii fruit is a rich source of fiber, carbohydrates, vitamins B1, B2 and C, in addition to the minerals, Fe, Zn, Cu, Cr, Mn, Ca, and Mg. Biological results showed that intraperitoneal injection with STZ caused highly significant reduction in body weight gain% , highly significant elevation in blood glucose concentration accompanied by significant reduction in liver glycogen cotent as compared with control group. Diabetic rats also revealed significant elevation in lipid peroxide (MDA) level, highly significant elevation in total cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerols (TAG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C) concurrent with highly significant reduction in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) as compared with control group. Oral administration of O. dillenii juice had no effect on normal rats. Meanwhile, oral administration of O. dillenii juice to diabetic rats induced siginficant improvement in body weight gain % and lipid profile, it reduced significantly blood glucose and MDA levels as compared with non treated diabetic group. Histopathological investigation of the pancreatic tissue of STZ-diabetic rats represented the presence of necrosis, edema and congested blood vessels in the islets of Langerhans cells. O. dillenii fruit juice treatment overcome the previous changes, the majority of the cells tend to be normal.The improvement in the cells of Langerhans islets may explain the antidiabetic effect of the fruit juice under study. It also may improve the insulin receptors of -cells. Conclusion: It could be concluded that O. dillenii fruit juice had a potent hypoglycemic activity, this effect may be attributed to its antioxidant activity and its high content of chromium which was proved in this study. Therefore, it could be recommended that O. dillenii should be ingested as fresh fruit to diabetic and hypercholesterolemic patients beside the usual therapy
Physicochemical and Microbiological Quality of Raw, Pasteurized and UHT Milks in Shops

Abstract: This study was conducted to evaluate physicochemical and microbiological quality of raw, pasteurized and UHT milks in Shahrekord (Iran) in the spring 2005. All types of milk samples were collected from different part of the city were selected and in three consequent periods. The physicochemical parameters including fat, protein, temperature, Titrable Acidity (TA), Solid Not Fat (SNF) and Specific Gravity (SG) were determined. Additionally, the microbiological evaluations were based on the total bacterial count, total coliform count and Escherichia coli (E. coli). The results (mean values of 81 measurements) for raw milk samples showed fat content 2.6, protein 3.5, T 18 °C, TA 0.17, SNF 7.71 and SG 1.030 and total bacterial count 13x106 cfu mL-1, total coliform count 1300 cfu mL-1 and E. coli positive. Those values for the pasteurized milks were the fat content 2, protein 3.5, T 15 °C, TA 0.16, SNF 7.5 and SG 1.033 and total bacterial count 71x104 cfu mL-1, total coliform count 800 cfu mL-1 and E. coli positive. Furthermore, the values of UHT milks were the fat content 2.8, protein 3.1, T 19 °C, TA 0.15, SNF 8.3, SG 1.029, total bacterial count 71 cfu mL-1, total coliform count 9 cfu mL-1 and E. coli negative. Statistical analysis of data revealed that there is significant difference between results of different shops at the level of p<0.01 which implies the contamination of raw and pasteurized milk is above standards.
Malay Secondary School Students’ Entrepreneurial Attitude Orientation and Entrepreneurial Self-efficacy: A Descriptive Study

Abstract: As the influential factors affecting intention to become an entrepreneur, entrepreneurial attitude orientation and self-efficacy of students have been one of the main focuses of entrepreneurship research. However, there is not enough information on secondary school students’ attitude toward and efficacy of entrepreneurship particularly, in Malaysia. Through a descriptive approach, this study aimed to determine entrepreneurial attitude and entrepreneurial self-efficacy in order to evaluate the entrepreneurship inclination and potential among Malaysian secondary school students. A sample of 2,574 students was randomly selected from three states around Malaysia as the participants of this study. A set of questionnaire was developed based on previous researches to measure students’ entrepreneurial attitude and self-efficacy. The findings indicate that Malay students have a moderately high attitude toward entrepreneurship. More specifically, the students scored high in self-esteem cognition and achievement cognition but low in self-esteem behavior and self-esteem affect. Moreover, the students perceived themselves as moderately capable of establishing new ventures. The implication of the findings and areas for future researches are discussed.
Are Teachers Qualified to Teach Entrepreneurship? Analysis of Entrepreneurial Attitude and Self-efficacy

Abstract: Recent research on the impacts of entrepreneurship education revealed that graduates lack the motivation and competencies required for new venture creation. Students entrepreneurial motivation and competencies can be highly influenced by teachers attitude toward and self-efficacy in entrepreneurship. However, there is little knowledge about entrepreneurial attitude and self-efficacy of teachers specifically at vocational and technical schools. This study aimed to examine entrepreneurial attitude and self-efficacy among 315 teachers from technical and vocational secondary schools in Malaysia. It employed a survey research method and a set of questionnaire to measure the teachers' entrepreneurial attitude and self-efficacy. Analysis of the data indicated that the teachers had attitudes as consistent with entrepreneurs and a high entrepreneurial self-efficacy. More specifically, the teachers scored high in all dimensions of entrepreneurial attitude except self-esteem affect and behavior, personal control affect, personal control cognition and innovation behavior. Therefore, the teachers have a positive attitude towards entrepreneurship and a high sense of self-efficacy.
Optimization of Biomass Usage for Electricity Generation with Carbon Dioxide Reduction in Malaysia

Abstract: Electricity and energy sector are identified as the major carbon dioxide emitter. Coal, natural gas, diesel, oil and hydro are the sources to generate electricity in Malaysia. In the 9th Malaysia Plan, government of Malaysia encourage power producer shift from heavy reliance on natural gas and enhance use of biomass. Agriculture residue; palm oil residue, rice processing residue and wood processing residue were considered as fuel sources to generate electricity in this study. An MILP model has been developed to optimize fuel mix and meet CO2 emission target. The model was developed and implemented in General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) for the fleet of electricity generation in Peninsular Malaysia only. In order to reduce the CO2 emissions by 35% from current CO2 emission level, the optimizer has specified to switch from coal to natural gas and biomass from palm oil residues as a fuel. Therefore, agriculture residue is a promising fuel sources for electricity generation at the same time reduce CO2 emissions.
