Effect of Cu2+ Doping on Structural and Optical Properties of Synthetic Zn0.5CuxMg0.5-xFe2O4 (x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) Nano-Ferrites  [PDF]

Abstract: The samples of Zn0.5CuxMg0.5-xFe2O4 nanoparticle ferrites, with x= 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 were successfully synthesised. Structural and optical properties were investigated by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared spectros-copy (FTIR) and UV-visible spectroscopy. The structural studies showed that all the samples prepared through the Co-precipitation method was a single phase of a face-cantered-Cubic (FCC) spinel symmetry structures with space group (SG): Fd-3m. In the series Zn0.5CuxMg0.5-xFe2O4, the lattice parameter was found to be 8.382 ? for x = 0 and was found to increase with copper con-centration. The grain size obtained from the XRD data analyses was found to be in the range of 15.97 to 28.33 nm. The increased in the grain size may be due to the large ionic radius of Mg2+ (0.86 ?) compared with Cu2+ (0.73 ?). The FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the formation of spinel ferrite and showed the characteristics absorption bands around 580, 1112, 1382, 1682, 1632 and 2920 cm-1. The energy band gap was calculated for samples were found to be in the range 4.04 to 4.67 eV.

Abstract: This paper reports obtaining of useful and high-value materials from sesame seed cake (SSC). For this purpose, SSC sample was burned for 30 s using Nd: YAG laser with output power 60 W. The products of this process and non-burned SSC were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) so as to investigate its crystal structure and chemical components. XRD results of the SSC before burning process showed amorphous silica, rhombohedral phase of carbon, monoclinic phase of aluminum chloride, the hexagonal phase of moissanite-4H, (yellow, black) and hexagonal phase of graphite-2H, C (black). While the results of the burned SSC sample showed that the burning process using the power of Nd: YAG laser cased in appearing of crystalline hexagonal phase for silica and Carbon Nitride and converting the rhombohedral phase of Carbon into hexagonal phase. FTIR showed a number of absorbance peaks assigned to silica.

Abstract: The Ba2Zn1-xNixWO6 double perovskite oxides were synthesized using solid state reaction method. The effect of replacement of Zn2+ with Ni2+ cation on the structural properties was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) at room temperature. From the X-ray diffraction and by means of standard Rietiveld method, the samples showed the same cubic crystal structure with (Fm-3m) space group and the crystallite size ranging from 71.91 nm to 148.71 nm. The unit cell volume was found to decrease as a result of the replacement, while there was no significant difference in the value of tolerance factor of the samples. This is may be due to the convergence of ionic radii of Ni2+ and Zn2+ cations. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) was performed for the samples and the resultant characteristic absorption bands confirmed the double perovskite structure.
Distribution and Taxonomy of Shallow Marine Ostracods from the Western Coast of the Red Sea, Egypt  [PDF]

A total 5849 individuals of ostracods constituting twenty species were collected from five shallow marine sites along the area from El-Quseir to Marsa Alam on the West Coast of the Red Sea. The twenty ostracod species belonging to sixteen genera and ten different families. The three genera; Loxoconcha, Neonesidea and Xestoleberis have high species diversity. Furthermore, the species Loxoconcha ghardaqensis, Xestoleberis rotunda, Paranesidea fracticorallicola, Tanella gracilis and Neonesidea schulzi were the best recognized in the collecting region. Otherwise, the distribution of the collected ostracod species in relation to environmental variables and plants were discussed in detail here. Based on this, it is concluded that, vegetation type appears to be the most important factor controlling the distribution of ostracod species in the investigated area. Also, other factors such as, water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH and electrical conductivity play an important role. Scanning electron microscope images of valves are delivered of the recorded taxa. These fauna displays close affinities to those of the Red Sea and the Indo- Pacific region.
Trials to improve the colour of colour fixed cottonseed oil using sodium oleate and sodium stearate in the absence and presence of azeotropic extract of cottonseed meal

Abstract: The effectiveness of two additives, namely, laboratory prepared sodium oleate and sodium stearate to improve the colour of colour fixed cottonseed oil was studied. Also the presence of the azeotropic extract of cottonseed meal together with 5% Na oleate or 10%Na stearate was taken In consideration. Improvement in the colour index of most treated refined and bleached oil samples is observed. This is confirmed with the reduction of gossypol contents of the refined and bleached treated oil samples compared with the untreated oil sample. Se estudió la eficacia de dos aditivos, a saber, oleato sódico y estearato sódico preparados en laboratorio para mejorar el color del aceite de semilla de algodón con color fijado. También se tuvo en consideración la presencia de extracto azeotrópico de harina de semilla de algodón junto con oleato sódico al 50% o estearato sódico al 10%. Se observó la mejora en el índice de color de la mayoría de las muestras de aceite decolorado y refinado tratado. Esto está confirmado con la reducción de los contenidos en gosipol de las muestras de aceites refinados y decolorados tratados comparado con la muestra de aceite no tratado.
The value of unenhanced multi-detector computed tomography versus three-dimensional ultrasound in evaluating patients with impaired renal function and hematuria

Abstract: Introduction: Unenhanced computed tomography (CT) is used to detect urinary tract calculi with high accuracy. The development of multi-detector CT (MDCT) allows reconstructions in coronal, sagittal and oblique directions. Objective: To compare MDCT with three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound (US) imaging in evaluating patients with impaired renal function and hematuria. Patients and methods: A total of 55 patients with hematuria and impaired renal function were examined with unenhanced MDCT and 3D US imaging at Al-Fayoum University Hospital between March 2008 and April 2010. Results: The diagnosis on unenhancedMDCTwas urolithiasis in 25 patients, psoas abscess with perinephritis in 2, chronic cystitis in 3, prostatic enlargement in 4, renal mass lesions in 3, vesical masses in 4, renal trauma in 2, adult polycystic kidney disease in 1, renal vein thrombosis in 1 and no specific abnormality in 10 patients. In diagnosing the cause of hematuria, the sensitivity was 82% for CT versus 73% for US. This can be attributed to the high sensitivity of CT (100%) in the diagnosis of urolithiasis, which is a common cause of hematuria. In the diagnosis of other causes of hematuria the sensitivity was 66% for CT versus 77% for US. The combination of MDCT and US increased the sensitivity to 87%. Assembly of a fast multi resolution spectrophotometer system for simultaneous measurement of absorption and luminescence spectra

Abstract: In this work, the design and assembly of a dual spectrophotometer system capable of measuring the absorption as well as time resolved luminescence spectra of liquid, gaseous, or solid samples are reported. The system incorporates a 1024×376 elements coupled charge detector (CCD) capable of monitoring changes in optical spectra with time delays as short as few microseconds time scale. Such a design reduced significantly the costs of purchasing two separate systems containing similar optical and electronic components. In addition, the design enabled further investigations on the photodegradation mechanism for a benzimidazole based pesticide.
Extracting SOA Candidate Software Services from an Organization’s Object Oriented Models  [PDF]

Class diagrams and use case models are system models that are used to analyze, design and model object oriented systems. In this era of agile computing, service-oriented architecture has become increasingly popular for achieving efficient and agile business solutions that can maintain changes demanded by the business world. This paper proposes a methodology to identify services from a set of class diagrams and use case models in order to generate a service oriented model. An extensive evaluation of the generated services has shown that these services conform to the principles of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), and provide a straightforward methodology, which can reuse the valuable business logic that resides within legacy applications to migrate to SOA-based systems.

Relaxation of writhe and twist of a bi-helical magnetic field

Abstract: In the past few years suggestions have emerged that the solar magnetic field might have a bi-helical component with oppositely polarized magnetic fields at large and small scales, and that the shedding of such fields may be crucial for the operation of the dynamo. It is shown that, if a bi-helical field is shed into the solar wind, positive and negative contributions of the magnetic helicity spectrum tend to mix and decay. Even in the absence of turbulence, mixing and decay can occur on a time scale faster than the resistive one provided the two signs of magnetic helicity originate from a single tube. In the presence of turbulence, positively and negatively polarized contributions mix rapidly in such a way that the ratio of magnetic helicity to magnetic energy is largest both at the largest scale and in the dissipation range. In absolute units the small scale excess of helical fields is however negligible.

Abstract: In the last three decades, nuclear factor B (NF- B) has been the focus of many researchers who are interested in understanding the various molecular mechanisms involved in inflammatory diseases and cancer. Interference with NF- B activity can cause many cellular abnormalities including tumorigenesis. In this study, we focus on examining the potential of ten synthetic ethylene glycol based compounds to interact with the binding site of NF- B. Computational analysis reveals that the ethylene glycol compounds examined in this study display differential ability to interact with NF- B. Parameters such as ALOGP, dock score, and internal energy were determined for each of the studied compounds. Seven compounds were found to interact with specific amino acid residues within the binding site of NF- B. The specific amino acids involved in the interaction were mapped and the nature of interaction was identified. Since NF- B is implicated in the development of many inflammatory and immune-related conditions including cancer, we predict that the ethylene glycol compounds examined in this study can be targeted for the development of therapeutic agents that can be employed in the prevention and/or treatment of various diseases including cancer.
