Control Chaos in System with Fractional Order  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper, by utilizing the fractional calculus theory and computer simulations, dynamics of the fractional order system is studied. Further, we have extended the nonlinear feedback control in ODE systems to fractional order systems, in order to eliminate the chaotic behavior. The results are proved analytically by stability condition for fractional order system. Moreover numerical simulations are shown to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.
Discrimination between Chinese Jing Wine and Counterfeit Using Different Signal Features of an Electronic Nose  [PDF]

Abstract: Because sensory analysis and chromatographic analysis were not well suitable for the discrimination between Chinese Jing wines and counterfeits, an electronic nose (in short, eNose) was employed to carry out the task. In the investigation three kinds of features of eNose signals were extracted and as input data of principal component analysis (PCA). These features are named as mean-differential coefficient value (MDCV), energy value of wavelet packet decomposition (WE) and relative steady-state response value (RSV), respectively. The results demonstrated that the discrimination based on these features data could all be performed by PCA, and the RSV was the best. At the same time, an evaluation method was proposed to evaluate the discrimination capability of these features quantitatively, and the evaluation results are basically in accord with PCA discrimination results. This showed the evaluation method was appropriate for evaluating the discrimination capability of different features. In conclusion, the investigation indicated that the eNose coupled with PCA was absolutely competent for the discrimination tasks, and especially the feature RSV was simple and reliable.

Abstract: In the Western word, the study of ideographic writings is often impaired by a kind of terminological confusion which is more due to theoretical negligence than to insufficiency in practical knowledge of ideographic languages. In this article, we try to dispel this confusion by examining its origin. Through the examination, we shall make distinction between logogram and ideogram ; the question “when drawing become writing” is to be answered. The classification of ideograms will also be under consideration anew. The last part of this article will be devoted to the distinction between alphabetic systems and ideographic systems. Key words: ideogram; logogram; pictogram; drawing; alphabet; study of writing Résumé: En Occident, l’étude des systèmes d’écriture idéographiques s’accompagne souvent d’une confusion terminologique qui est due plus à une négligence théorique qu’à une insuffisance de connaissances en langues qu’on dit en général idéographiques. Dans le présent article, nous essayons de dissiper cette confusion en menant des réflexions sur son origine, au fil desquelles nous serons naturellement obligé de faire le départ entre logogramme et idéogramme, nous répondrons à la question quand un dessin devient signe d’écriture. Nous réexaminerons également la classification des idéogrammes; pour ce faire, nous mettrons à contribution des approches sémiologiques. La dernière partie de l’article sera consacrée à une comparaison entre système idéographique et système alphabétique; à la suite de la comparaison on saura pourquoi l’écriture n’a pas évolué vers l’alphabet. An Adaptive Key Management Framework for the Wireless Mesh and Sensor Networks  [PDF]

Abstract: Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are popular research subjects. The interconnection of both network types enables next-generation applications and creates new optimization opportunities. Currently, plenty of protocols are available on the security of either wireless sensor networks or wireless mesh networks, an investigation in peer work underpins the fact that neither of these protocols is adapt to the interconnection of these network types. The internal cause relies on the fact that they differ in terms of complexity, scalability and network abstraction level. Therefore, in this article, we propose a unified security framework with three key management protocols, MPKM, MGKM, and TKM which are able to provide basic functionalities on the simplest devices and advanced functionalities on high performance nodes. We perform a detailed performance evaluation on our protocols against some important metrics such as scalability, key connectivity and compromise resilience, and we also compare our solution to the current keying protocols for WSNs and WMNs.
Survey of Stereotactic Body Radiation Oncology for Early Staged Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in China  [PDF]

Purpose: To evaluate the current status of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for early staged non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) at main cancer hospitals in China. Methods and Materials: The questionnaire was sent by mail and email to 21 hospitals, which include the patient enrollment, treatment technique, dose and fractionation, quality control, disease control and side effects. Results: Nineteen hospitals responded. It was found that SBRT has been used for early staged NSCLC in most of the hospitals participating in the survey. The patient characteristics and techniques were relatively consistent, but there were many controversies regarding dose fractionation and quality control. Conclusions: SBRT for early staged NSCLC has been applied at main cancer hospitals in China. However, considerable variation exists. The establishment of clinical guidelines and standardized quality control are crucial for further improvement.

Optical Stark decelerator for cw molecular beam with a quasi-cw semi-Gaussian laser beam

Abstract: We propose a promising scheme to decelerate a cw filtering out molecular beam using a red-detuned quasi-cw semi-Gaussian laser beam. By using Monte-Carlo simulation method, we demonstrate this optical Stark deceleration scheme, and study its decelerated dynamic process for a cw ND3 molecular beam as well as the dependence of the deceleration effect on the border width of the semi-Gaussian beam. Our study shows that the proposed scheme can be used to efficiently slow a cw ND3 molecular beam, and obtain a relative average kinetic-energy loss of 9.33% by using a single semi-Gaussian beam with a well depth of 7.3 mK.
A weak convergence approach to hybrid LQG problems with infinite control weights

Abstract: This work is concerned with a class of hybrid LQG (linear quadratic Gaussian) regulator problems modulated by continuous-time Markov chains. In contrast to the traditional LQG models, the systems have both continuous dynamics and discrete events. In lieu of a model with constant coefficients, these coefficients vary with time and exhibit piecewise constant behavior. At any time t, the system follows a stochastic differential equation in which the coefficients take one of the m possible configurations where m is usually large. The system may jump to any of the possible configurations at random times. Further, the control weight in the cost functional is allowed to be indefinite. To reduce the complexity, the Markov chain is formulated as singularly perturbed with a small parameter. Our effort is devoted to solving the limit problem when the small parameter tends to zero via the framework of weak convergence. Although the limit system is still modulated by a Markov chain, it has a much smaller state space and thus, much reduced complexity.
Porphyry Cu-Mo-Au mineralization related to adakite and Himalayan type granite in the northern margin of West Qinling

Abstract: Adakite is one of intermediate and acidic magamatite related to mineralization, and it has been taken the special attention and interest during the latest 20 years; Himalayan granite is a term which is introduced recently to describe a kind of granite related to crust thickening. The study results in this essay show that in the northern edge of West Qinling exist Indosinian adakite and Himalayan type granite which are related with mineralization of gold, copper and molybdenum. The adakite and Himalayan type granite in Ayishan and Dewulu-Heihe area are characterized by the high value of Mg#,which may be caused by the mixing of mantle magma and crustal magma in the bottom of thickening crust, but the low value of Mg#,which adakite and Himalayan granite in Wenquan and Chijiazhaung area have, should be caused by partial melting of thickened low crust. In this paper, the geological setting of porphyry Cu-Mo-Au ore-belt in the northern section of West Qinling is introduced, the characteristics of adakite and type granite, and the relation with mineralization are analyzed. The study work reveal that orogenic zone of west Qinling formed in Triassic Period should be a favorable area for finding Cu-Mo-Au deposit due to the thick crust and frequently magmatic activities.

Abstract: A highly sensitive and selective Hg2+ probe 4 based on rhodamine-b was developed and characterized. In consideration of environmental and biological application, we connected a water soluble receptor group (sulfonated β-naphtol) and rhodamine-b together through hydrazine hydrate in high yield. The result turns out that this compound not only exhibits excellent sensitivity and selectivity toward Hg2+, but also shows well cell permeability and compatibility in vitro.

Abstract: Kinmen Island lacks fossil-fuel energy, However, it has rich potential for solar and wind energy resources because of its excellent climate and geographical location. Therefore, a large scale utilization of the renewable energy sources is favoured. In June 2004, the Kinmen County government published the Strategic Plan for the Sustainable Development of Kinmen, which focuses on maintaining the ecology of the islands. In the near future, a high penetration of renewable power can be predicted to be installed in this island. However, a large renewable energy penetration into a diesel power system would face technical and economic problems. Therefore, this study intends to discuss the system operation of the Kinmen system and investigates the original unit commitment scheduling. Based on the simulation results, a new unit commitment scheduling will be proposed in this work.
