An Examination of the Effects of Aerosol ChemicalComposition and Size on Radiative Properties of Multi-Component Aerosols  [PDF]

Abstract: The sensitivity of aerosol radiative properties (i.e., scattering coefficient, extinction coefficient, single scatter albedo, and asymmetry factor) and radiation transmission to aerosol composition, size distributions, and relative humidity (RH) is examined in this paper. Mie calculations and radiation calculations using a tropospheric visible radiation model are performed. The aerosol systems considered include inorganic and organic ions (e.g., Cl-, Br-, , , Na+, , K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, HCOO-, CH3COO-, CH3CH2COO-, CH3COCOO-, OOCCOO2-, MSA1-), and (2) water-insoluble inorganic and organic compounds e.g., (black carbon, n-alkanes, SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3 and other organic compounds). The partial molar refraction method and the volume-average method are used to calculate the real and imaginary parts of refractive index of real aerosols, respectively. The sensitivity simulations show that extinction coefficient increases by 70% when RH varies from 0 to 80%. Both extinction coefficient and asymmetry factor increase by ~48% when real part varies from 1.40 to 1.65. Scattering coefficient and single scattering albedo decrease by 18% and 24%, respectively, when the imaginary part varies from –0.005 to –0.1. Scattering and extinction coefficients increase by factors of 118 and 123, respectively, when the geometric mean radius varies from 0.05 to 0.3 ?m. Scattering and extinction coefficients and asymmetry factor increase by factors of 389, 334, and 5.4, respectively, when geometric standard deviation varies from 1.2 to 3.0. The sensitivity simulations using a tropospheric visible radiation model show that the radiation transmission is very sensitive to the change in geometric mean radius and standard deviation; other factors are insignificant.
A Quantum Battle of the Sexes in Noninertial Frame  [PDF]

We investigate the influence of the Unruh effect on the quantum Battle of the Sexes (BOF). We show that the acceleration of a noninertial frame greatly affects the payoffs of the players. In the case of Battle of the Sexes, the Nash Equilibra in the inertial frame may be equilibrium but in other games this conclusion may not be true anymore. Furthermore, we also show that the new Nash Equilibria of the game played in the noninertial frame and the probability distributions of the players in the new Nash Equilibria vary with the acceleration of moving player and the degree of entanglement in the initial state shared by the players.

Accurate measurement of film thickness and its uniformity are very important to the performance of many coated surfaces and for many applications are critical. Effective inspection of the film thickness and uniformity is the key to high performance. Conventionally, film thickness is meas- ured using a spectrophotometer/reflectometer, ellipsometer or a physical step measurement; however, these techniques all have limitations. Coherence Scanning Interferometry (CSI) is an established method to measure surface topography as this technique offers many advantages such as speed, ease of use and accuracy. The measurement of “thick” films (exceeding ~1.5 μm) which gives rise to clearly separate fringe bunches is a well-established CSI capability. However, a methodology known as the ‘helical complex field’ (HCF) [1] [2] function allows film thickness to be measured down to ~25 nm. This new method, combined with Coherence Correlation Interferometry (CCI) [3] offers film thickness measurements with sub-nanometre vertical resolution and ~1 μm lateral resolution. It is ideally suited for detailed analysis of coated optical surfaces. In this paper, the fundamentals of the techniques are described and some case studies are presented.

A Cross-Disciplinary Study of Evidentiality in Abstracts of English Research Articles  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper is a cross-disciplinary study of evidentiality in English abstracts. The corpus consists of 200 abstracts of English RAs of four disciplines: linguistics, philosophy, computer and electronics. Firstly, our study presents the lexicogrammatical realizations of evidentiality in English abstracts of four disciplines, and then it compares the cross-disciplinary use of evidentiality from the analyses of reporting evidentials and modal verbs in inferring evidentials. The analyses show significant differences in the distribution and frequency of four evidential types in abstracts of the four disciplines and also show that different disciplinary conventions of writers may influence their choice of evidentiality in their abstracts writing. It is hoped that this study may be helpful to enrich the study of evidentiality in academic discourses. Besides, it may give implications on the learning and teaching of academic writing.
Preparation of Ni-Co Alloy Foils by Electrodeposition  [PDF]

Abstract: Electrodeposition of Ni-Co alloy foils on titanium substrate was performed in an acid chloride- sulphate bath. The influences of electrodeposition parameters such as current density, temperature, pH value, cobalt sulphate and saccharin concentration on composition and current efficiency were investigated in detail. The morphology and the microstructure of deposits were analyzed by SEM and XRD, respectively. The results indicated that the optimum parameters were current density 3-4 A/dm2, pH 2-3, temperature 40-50?C, cobalt sulphate 20 g/l and saccharin 2-3 g/l. Chemical analysis of the deposits by EDS revealed anomalous Ni-Co codeposition occured in this system. The SEM showed that hydroxide particles were not present on the surface and that fine-grain, smooth and compact Ni-Co alloy deposits were obtained. The crystallographic structures of Ni-Co alloy foils were the fcc Ni solid solution. The Ni-Co alloy foils with Co content 17.3-37.2 wt% and thickness of 20-45 μm were bright with low residual stress and super toughness.

Abstract: In this work, the molar volume thermal expansion coefficient of 60 room temperature ionic liquids is compared with their van der Waals volume Vw. Regular correlation can be discerned between the two quantities. An average free volume model, that considers the particles as hard core with attractive force, is proposed to explain the correlation in this study. Some typical one atom liquids (molten metals and liquid noble gases) are introduced to verify this hypothesis. Good agreement between the theory prediction and experimental data can be obtained.

Abstract: In this paper, based on classical Lie group method, we study multi-dimensional Landau-Lifshitz equation, and get its infinitesimal generator, symmetry group and new solutions. In particular, we build the connection between new exact solutions and old exact solutions. At the same time, we also prove that the initial boundary value condition of the three-dimensional Landau-Lifshitz equation admits a unique solution and discuss the stability of the solution.
Investigation of Status Quo of Dietary Behavior in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease  [PDF]

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the status quo of dietary behavior of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and analyze its influence factors. Methods: All patients (n = 104) who went to the department of gastroenterology of Hua Dong Hospital were recruited. Dietary behavior of patients was investigated by a questionnaire self-designed while the nutritional status was evaluated using the Patient-generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA). Results: Among 104 cases with IBD, the numbers of well dietary belief were 58 cases (55.8%) and the poor were 46 cases (45.2%). The good eating habits were 33 cases (31.7%), the general were 25 cases (24.0%) and the poor were 46 (44.2%). The adequate intakes of carbohydrate, protein and fat were separately 36 cases (34.6%), 25 cases (24.0%) and 33 cases (31.7%) while the inadequate intakes were separately 68 cases (65.4%), 79 cases (76.0%) and 71 cases (68.3%). Sex, culture degree and duration were influence factors of the dietary belief (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The problems in dietary behavior are not optimistic. Most patients with IBD are with poor dietary belief and eating habits while the intake of carbohydrate, protein and fat is insufficient although the choice of food is reasonable. And majority of patients were combined with malnutrition. Education of the dietary knowledge about IBD should be strengthened, especially for patients who are female, short-term duration and lower culture degree.
