The Comparison Between TESL and TCSL in Chinese Universities

Abstract: TESL ( Teaching English as a Second Language ) and TCSL ( Teaching Chinese as a Second Language ), they are both the second language teaching in Chinese Universities, which have some similarities in the second language teaching process and they are both need to apply some of the same teaching strategies. However, there are more differences between these two kinds of second language teaching in Chinese universities. This paper has compared TESL and TCSL in Chinese Universities from three perspectives: what are taught in second language teaching class? How to teach the second language? What are the different effects of the second language teaching? Then some conclusions have been summarized to understand the overall goals of second language teaching so as to contribute to the improvement of second language teaching techniques of TESL and TCSL. Intelligent Video Surveillance System for Elderly People Living Alone Based on ODVS  [PDF]

Intelligent video surveillance for elderly people living alone using Omni-directional Vision Sensor (ODVS) is an important application in the field of intelligent video surveillance. In this paper, an ODVS is utilized to provide a 360° panoramic image for obtaining the real-time situation for the elderly at home. Some algorithms such as motion object detection, motion object tracking, posture detection, behavior analysis are used to implement elderly monitoring. For motion detection and object tracking, a method based on MHoEI(Motion History or Energy Images) is proposed to obtain the trajectory and the minimum bounding rectangle information for the elderly. The posture of the elderly is judged by the aspect ratio of the minimum bounding rectangle. And there are the different aspect ratios in accordance with the different distance between the object and ODVS. In order to obtain activity rhythm and detect variously behavioral abnormality for the elderly, a detection method is proposed using time, space, environment, posture and action to describe, analyze and judge the various behaviors of the elderly in the paper. In addition, the relationship between the panoramic image coordinates and the ground positions is acquired by using ODVS calibration. The experiment result shows that the above algorithm can meet elderly surveillance demand and has a higher recognizable rate.

Effects of Different Treatments on Physiological Characteristics of Cephalotaxus sinensis Seeds  [PDF]

Abstract: Cephalotaxus sinensis seeds can’t germinate even in the appropriate environment. However, numerous studies have showed that cold stratification and gibberellin acid (GA) can break the seed dormancy and promote seed germination effectively. To investigate the effect of cold stratification and different concentrations of exogenous GA3 on dormancy breaking in seeds of Cephalotaxus sinensis, we monitored germination rates and changes in soluble sugar, starch, amylase, soluble protein, free amino acid during cold stratification. The results showed that seeds stratified for 5 months germinated to 12.7%, while those disposed with 200, 400, 600 mg/L of GA3 germinated to 29.2%, 21.7%, and 18.4%, respectively. Free amino acid content was enhanced significantly, whereas soluble sugar content decreased during 45 days and then increased constantly. Additionally, the main reserves such as starch, protein decreased significantly during cold stratification, and cold stratification induced increases in the activities of α-amylase, (α + β)-amylase. The preliminary results show that the combination of GA3 and cold stratification has better effect to break seed dormancy.
The Causes of Dormancy and the Changes of Endogenous Hormone Content in Cephalotaxus sinensis Seeds  [PDF]

In many wild species, seeds are dormancy at maturity and will not germinate even under favorable environment conditions. Dormancy is a complex trail that is determined by many factors. Some studies have shown that cold stratification and the application of gibberellic acid (GA) can break seed dormancy and promote seed germination. The present study investigated the causes of plant dormancy and the effect of cold stratification and different concentrations of exogenous GA3 in regulating Cephalotaxus sinensis seed germination. Results showed that C. Sinensis seeds have good water permeability, which suggested that seed coats were not the main cause that inhibited the seed germination. There were germination inhibitions in all parts of seeds, and the order of inhibitory effect was: testa < endosperm (embryo), which indicated that existence of germination inhibitions was the main reason causing seed dormancy. Endogenous GAs and IAA (indole-3-acetic acid) content increased, while ABA (abscisic acid) content decreased over the experiments. ZR (zeatin riboside) content decreased in the early phase of cold stratification, but rebounded by the end of the experimental period. The changes of endogenous hormone indicated that GA, IAA and ZR played a positive role in seed germination, whereas ABA was associated with seed dormancy. Besides, the relative ratio of GA/ABA, IAA/ABA and ZR/ABA may play a more important role than their absolute level during the seed development.

The correct analysis and evaluation on present situation is the key to improving emergency logistics capability in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. This paper took emergency logistics capability in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region as the research object. It established analysis model of emergency logistics capability in Bei-jing-Tianjin-Hebei region based on fuzzy matter-element method. This paper did further study by applying this model. Accordingly, it obtained variation chart of the first-level indicator capability and variation trend chart of comprehensive capability. Finally, this paper summarized and verified research result. The conclusion of this paper has certain instructive effect on improving the emergency logistics capability in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and that could be of referential value for the evaluation and analysis of similar problems.
Analysis on Correlation between Resistin—420C/G Polymorphism and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Macroangiopathy in Han Population of Northeast China  [PDF]

Objective: To study the allelic and genotypic frequency distribution of RETN—420C/G single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and its relationship with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) complicated with macroangiopathy in Han population of northeast China. Methods: The genotypes and their frequencies of a total of 180 cases, including 60 cases of T2DM complicated with macroangiopathy, 60 cases of simple T2DM and 60 cases of normal control (ND), were measured by PCR—RFLP. Results: The allelic frequencies and simple CC/GC + GG genotype in T2DM complicated with macroangiopathy group were significant different compared with ND group (P < 0.01). The allelic frequencies and CC/GC + GG genotype in T2DM complicated with macroangiopathy group were significant different compared with T2DM group (P < 0.05). The GC + GG genotype in T2DM complicated with macroangiopathy group was significantly higher than that in T2DM group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The RETN—420C/G polymorphism has a correlation with the occurrence of T2DM complicated with macroangiopathy in Han population of northeast China.

Abstract: The Gross-Pitaevskii model of spinor Bose-Einstein condensates is studied. Using the abstract results obtained for infinite-dimensional Hamilton system, we establish the mathematical theory for the model of spinor BEC. Furthermore, three conservative quantities of spinor BEC, that is, the energy, total particle number, and magnetization intensity, are also proved.
Matched field noise suppression: A generalized spatial filtering approach

Abstract: An approach to improving the performance of matched field localization by introducing a generalized spatial filter to suppress interference noise and pass the signal of interest with minimal distortion is presented. The spatial filter is designed by minimizing the maximum distortion of the filtered replica vectors within “passband” while guaranteeing the norm of the filter response within the “stopband” to be lower than some given threshold values. We show that the design problem can be formulated as the second-order cone programming (SOCP) which can be solved efficiently via the well-established interior point method. A modified matched field processor is given to ultimately eliminate the effect of the distortion in the spatially filtered replica vectors. Computer simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach by localizing a weak source in the presence of a strong interferer and noise.

Abstract: With Chinese opening and reform policy, more and more foreigners come to China for sightseeing. Identification of Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni Proteins by Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis

Abstract: Four diverse genotypes of Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni were included for Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) analysis. Total proteins were analyzed through slab type SDS-PAGE. Based on SDS-PAGE, specific bands were suggested to be used for identifying Stevia rebaudiana Berton. This method has the advantages of simplicity, high sensitivity and good accuracy and the SDS-PAGE proved to be a powerful tool for differentiating Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni varieties.
