The Importance of Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio and Peripheral Blood Eosinophilia in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients with Acute Exacerbation: Recent Studies  [PDF]

Abstract: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic, progressive respiratory disease and the third leading cause of respiratory disease mortality. The diagnosis of COPD is changed to acute exacerbation of COPD (AECOPD) when respiratory symptoms become worse, beyond normal day-to-day variations and severely enough that changes in medication are required. Both neutrophils to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and peripheral blood eosinophilia (PBE) are rapid and relatively inexpensive tests that can be easily applied in the clinical practice for the diagnosis and treatment of AECOPD patients. Furthermore, current studies found that NLR and PBE had a higher accuracy rate than other traditional markers (Leukocyte count and C-reactive protein) for the diagnosis and management of AECOPD. Besides, recent studies determined that NLR and PBE can be used for prediction of future exacerbations in COPD patients. This review aims to explore the current knowledge about the significance of NLR and PBE in AECOPD patients.

Abstract: Deep formation pore-pressure assessment is very important for evaluation and exploitation in oil and gas fields. Aimed at the deficiency of the present formation pressure assess methods,the evolvement characters of formation pressure time-series is analyzed at first,and then a method is proposed to build the neural network intelligent recognition model. A formation pressure intelligent recognition software is developed based on the MATLAB neural network toolbox. This software is proved to satisfy the engineering needs when used to evaluate the actual formation pore-pressure of well of Q002 in Talimu oil field. In this practice,the recognition average error is 4.02% to normal sediment stratums,and 6.57% to non-normal sediment stratums. This method is simple,efficient,intelligent and can be used to evaluate formation pore-pressure in advance.
Phylogenetic Analysis of the Endoribonuclease Dicer Family

Abstract: Dicers are proteins of the ribonuclease III family with the ability to process dsRNA, involved in regulation of gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. Dicers are conserved from basal metazoans to higher metazoans and contain a number of functional domains that interact with dsRNA. The completed genome sequences of over 34 invertebrate species allowed us to systematically investigate Dicer genes over a diverse range of phyla. The majority of invertebrate Dicers clearly fell into the Dicer1 or Dicer2 subfamilies. Most nematodes possessed only one Dicer gene, a member of the Dicer1 subfamily, whereas two Dicer genes (Dicer1 and Dicer2) were present in all platyhelminths surveyed. Analysis of the key domains showed that a 5′ pocket was conserved across members of the Dicer1 subfamily, with the exception of the nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus. Interestingly, Nematostella vectensis DicerB grouped into Dicer2 subfamily harbored a 5′ pocket, which is commonly present in Dicer1. Similarly, the 3′ pocket was also found to be conserved in all Dicer proteins with the exceptions of Schmidtea mediterranea Dicer2 and Trichoplax adherens Dicer A. The loss of catalytic residues in the RNase III domain was noted in platyhelminths and cnidarians, and the ‘ball’ and ‘socket’ junction between two RNase III domains in platyhelminth Dicers was different from the canonical junction, suggesting the possibility of different conformations. The present data suggest that Dicers might have duplicated and diversified independently, and have evolved for various functions in invertebrates.

Abstract: In this letter, we show that a perfect lens can be employed to make multiple objects appear like only one in the far field, leading to a new concept of illusion optics. Numerical simulations are performed to verify the functionalities for both passive and active objects. The conceptual device can be utilized to enhance the illumination brightness for both incoherent and coherent systems.

Abstract: In the paper, we will discuss the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili Equation which is used to model shallow-water waves with weakly non-linear restoring forces and is also used to model waves in ferromagnetic media by employing the method of variable separation. Abundant exact solutions including global smooth solutions and local blow up solutions are obtained. These solutions would contribute to studying the behavior and blow up properties of the solution of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili Equation.

Abstract: 为实现可钻性的钻前预测,需要结合地层沉积层序研究成果,对地层可钻性剖面序列特征进行深入分析.在对中国大陆科学钻探预先导孔地层可钻性序列研究的基础上,提出可钻性时序特征的2个表征:时序几何形态特征和内在趋势变化特征,分别用关联维数和Hurst指数表示.通过与实际地层可钻性的比较分析表明,这2个参数反映可钻性时序的内外特征.因此,根据这2个表征参数,结合神经网络技术,可建造地层可钻性的预测模型.
Consistent Valuation of Bespoke CDO Tranches

Abstract: This paper describes a consistent and arbitrage-free pricing methodology for bespoke CDO tranches. The proposed method is a multi-factor extension to the (Li 2009) model, and it is free of the known flaws in the current standard pricing method of base correlation mapping. This method assigns a distinct market factor to each liquid credit index and models the correlation between these market factors explicitly. A low-dimensional semi-analytical Monte Carlo is shown to be very efficient in computing the PVs and risks of bespoke tranches. Numerical examples show that resulting bespoke tranche prices are generally in line with the current standard method of base correlation with TLP mapping. Practical issues such as model deltas and quanto adjustment are also discussed as numerical examples.
A Dynamic Correlation Modelling Framework with Consistent Stochastic Recovery

Abstract: This paper describes a flexible and tractable bottom-up dynamic correlation modelling framework with a consistent stochastic recovery specification. The stochastic recovery specification only models the first two moments of the spot recovery rate as its higher moments have almost no contribution to the loss distribution and CDO tranche pricing. Observing that only the joint distribution of default indicators is needed to build the portfolio loss distribution, we propose a generic class of default indicator copulas to model CDO tranches, which can be easily calibrated to index tranche prices across multiple maturities. This correlation modelling framework has the unique advantage that the joint distribution of default time and other dynamic properties of the model can be changed separately from the loss distribution and tranche prices. After calibrating the model to index tranche prices, existing top-down methods can be applied to the common factor process to construct very flexible systemic dynamics without changing the already calibrated tranche prices. This modelling framework therefore combines the best features of the bottom-up and top-down models: it is fully consistent with all the single name market information and it admits very rich and flexible spread dynamics. Numerical results from a non-parametric implementation of this modelling framework are also presented. The non-parametric implementation achieved fast and accurate calibration to the index tranches across multiple maturities even under extreme market conditions. A conditional Markov chain method is also proposed to construct the systemic dynamics, which supports an efficient lattice pricing method for dynamic spread instruments. We also showed how to price tranche options as an example of this fast lattice method.
High-level expression and purification of soluble recombinant FGF21 protein by SUMO fusion in Escherichia coli

Abstract: By inducing with IPTG, SUMO-FGF21 was expressed at a high level. Its concentration reached 30% of total protein, and exceeded 95% of all soluble proteins. The fused protein was purified by DEAE sepharose FF and Ni-NTA affinity chromatography. Once cleaved by the SUMO protease, the purity of rFGF21 by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was shown to be higher than 96% with low endotoxin level (<1.0 EU/ml). The results of in vivo animal experiments showed that rFGF21 produced by using this method, could decrease the concentration of plasma glucose in diabetic rats by streptozotocin (STZ) injection.This study demonstrated that SUMO, when fused with FGF21, was able to promote its soluble expression of the latter in E. coli, making it more convenient to purify rFGF21 than previously. This may be a better method to produce rFGF21 for pharmaceutical research and development.FGF21 is a potent regulator of glucose homeostasis [1]. It was originally identified as a hormone that stimulates glucose uptake in adipocytes [2]. FGF21 is induced and secreted from the liver upon fasting and acts on adipose tissues to induce metabolic adaptation to fasting[3,4]. Specifically, FGF21 stimulates lipolysis in adipocytes, a process which releases fatty acids into the bloodstream; when they reach the liver, these fatty acids are converted to ketones[3]. FGF21 is free of the proliferative and tumorigenic effects [5-7] that are documented for other members of the FGF family [3,8,9]. Systemic administration of FGF21 reduced plasma glucose, fructosamine, triglycerides, insulin, and glucagon in diabetic rhesus monkeys[10]. Abstract: The exfoliation corrosion of aluminum alloys has a great effect on life length of aviation structure materials.The existing methods which studied the exfoliation behavior of aluminum alloys nearly laid emphasis on qualitative evaluation of the corrosion degree,except a few of which was of quantitative and indirect,and these methods couldn't well and truly forecast the residual life time of aluminum alloys corroded.The principle of measuring the metal corrosion rate with ohmic resistance methods had been described in various kinds of teaching books or monographs,however,after carefully analyzing the methods,it is showed that these methods cannot be used to determine the corrosion rate of aluminum alloys in situ.A new ohmic resistance method is brought forward in this paper,with the study on exfoliation corrosion behavior and corrosion potential of LC4CS aluminuni alloy,the feasibility of the method is further verified.
