Abstract: To obtain the sustainability of social life and to increase resistance to disaster that cause loss of life and properties; it is possible to raise awareness in the community about disaster preparedness and engross to take all the components. Disaster planning is an approach that targets the correct use of resources to decrease negative impacts in the community after the disaster. In Turkey, earthquake losses have an important role in disaster planning. There are two basic approaches for earthquake loss estimation used in disaster planning namely deterministic and probabilistic. Uncertainties of the seismic risk assessment parameters can be generated from ground motion computations, structural inventories and risk methodologies. In this study, uncertainties in the ground motion estimations are investigated. Gebze district that located close to major fault lines at Marmara region, and had significant damage during Kocaeli earthquake (1990), is selected as a study case for the risk assessment scenarios. The uncertainties parameters in ground motion computation that have major effect on the risk assessment are considered as earthquake source, earthquake magnitude and soil parameters. As a result, building damage ratios, loss of life and the need for shelter are computed. The soil amplification effects on the seismic intensity level and damage ratios are emphasized. The earthquake hazard estimation and risk assessment computation were performed utilizing geographic information system based software AFAD-RED. The software combines the scenario based seismic hazard procedure with the existing building inventories and soil data for the risk estimations. As a result, it is concluded that, uncertainties in ground motion computations have important effect on the seismic risk assessment and should be considered in disaster planning process.

Journal of Clinical and Analytical Medicine , 2012, DOI: 10.4328
Abstract: Aim: A prior ectopic pregnancy increases the risk of consequent ectopic pregnancies. In this study risk factors and treatment modalities of recurrent ectopic pregnancies were analyzed in a tertiary hospital setting. Material and Method: Between January 2006 and December 2008, 13 recurrent ectopic pregnancies were retrospectively evaluated for demographic features, risk factors and treatment modalities. One year after the last ectopic pregnancy, patients were called back for their reproductive outcomes. Results: Ten out of 13 patients (76.9 %) were second repeat ectopic and 3 ( 23.1 %) were third repeat ectopic pregnancies. Five patients had miscarriages after previous ectopic pregnancies and these patients were performed uterine currettage after miscarriages. Eleven out of 13 patients (84.6 %) were treated with surgical approach. Ten out of 11 patients (90,9 %) had laparoscopic approach. One emergent laparotomy was performed for a patient in the third repeat ectopic group. Salpingostomy was performed for the four patients in the second repeat ectopic pregnancy group. Salpingectomy was the only technique for all three patients in third repeat ectopic group and also for the four patients in second repeat ectopic group. There were no pregnancies among these 13 patients one year after the ectopic attacks. None of the patients were intrauterine device user, only one patient was smoker, and one patient had experienced a previous pelvic inflammatory disease. Discussion: Risk factors for recurrent ectopic pregnancy were previous miscarriages and uterine currettages. Second repeat ectopic pregnancy was better to be managed with salpingostomy by laparoscopic approach for the future fertility expectations.

Abstract: Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the follow-up results of nutritionally supported geriatric patientswho were admitted for their pressure sores then plannedtheir treatment.Materials and methods: In this study, we analyzed thehospitalized geriatric pressure sore patients in our clinicwho were admitted between 2006 and 2011. We calculatedBody Mass Index and the blood albumin levels of allhospitalized geriatric patients. In this patient group proteinenergy malnutrition and deficiency were analyzed andproper nutrition support was provided accordingly. Afterrecovering from malnutrition further treatment surpassed. Results: The mean albumin levels of the hospitalized patientswas 2,53 ± 0,25 g/dL after nutritional support thoselevels increased to mean 3,95 ± 0,42 g/dL . Of all thosepatients 75% were operated when their general conditionallowed us for a surgery. Due to their high risk wedid not perform any surgical operation to the remaining25%.. Post operative mean hospitalization period was 12(8-21) days. Majority of the patients (78.6%) were treatedsuccessfully either with surgical or conservative treatmentmodalities. Conclusions: The success of the geriatric pressure soretreatment is highly related with the proper nutritional supportfor the ongoing malnutrition-like pathologies. Beforeoperation nutritional support not only makes a healthygranulation tissue but also yields fast and reliable woundhealing. Despite their chronic health problems many ofour geriatric patients were treated surgically for their pressuresores.Key words: Pressure sore, geriatric medicine, malnutrition, nutritional support

Balkan Medical Journal , 2012,
Abstract: Objective: The gonadotropin-releasing hormone-agonist (GnRH-a) treatment during in vitro fertilization (IVF) sometimes causes a functional ovarian cyst during the administration period before gonadotropin stimulation, as an undesired event. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of these cysts on the IVF outcomes.Materials and Methods: Out of 981 IVF cycles, 78 with ovarian cysts were retrospectively analyzed with respect to the demographic characteristics, hormonal outcomes, and fertilization, implantation and clinical pregnancy rates. Results: The metaphase II oocyte ratio, fertilization rate and percentage of high quality embryos (grade 1) were significantly higher in the cyst-negative group (p<0.0001; p<0.0001; p≤0.05). These same three parameters were also significantly higher in the cyst-aspirated group (p<0.01; p<0.05; p<0.05). Cyst diameters of the aspiration group were significantly higher (p<0.05). No statistically significant differences in implantation and clinical pregnancy rates were determined between the groups. Conclusion: An ovarian cyst formation during the GnRH-a suppression period negatively affects oocyte quality. Cyst aspiration before gonadotropin stimulation does not improve the IVF outcome.

Abstract: This paper is concerned with -Sturm-Liouville boundary value problem in the Hilbert space with a spectral parameter in the boundary condition. We construct a self-adjoint dilation of the maximal dissipative -difference operator and its incoming and outcoming spectral representations, which make it possible to determine the scattering matrix of the dilation. We prove theorems on the completeness of the system of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of operator generated by boundary value problem.

Abstract: Investigating the Peace Attitudes with Respect to Self -Esteem and GenderProblem Statement: It can be seen that studies which are about subjective well-being, optimism and peace have increased since positive psychology was developed. Societies can get better positions by means of positive psychology and peace psychology. We need scientific studies so as to establish this structure. The Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the peace attitudes with respect to self esteem and gender. Method: 471 persons (249 male; 222 female) who are adolescents, emerging adults, adults, middle adults and old adults were participated. Peace Attitudes Li’Scale and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale were used. In the study Independent-Samples T-Test and Pearson Correlation methods were used. Results / Findings: Female’s peace attitudes were more positive (p<.01, t= -2.61) than male’s attitudes. Positive correlation was found between peace attitudes and self- esteem ( p<.01,.28). The results were discussed. Conclusions / Recommendations: This study shows that woman has an important role at peace process. For sustainable peace process, we need their support. In addition to this, it can be useful to have moderately self-esteem for peace.

1. Introduction Spectral analysis of Sturm-Liouville and Schr?dinger differential equations with a spectral parameter in the boundary conditions has been analyzed intensively (see [1–16]). Then spectral analysis of discrete equations became an interesting subject in this field. So there is a substantial literature on this subject (see [10, 17–19]). There has recently been great interest in quantum calculus and many works have been devoted to some problems of -difference equation. In particular, we refer the reader to consult the reference [20] for some definitions and theorems on -derivative, -integration, -exponential function, -trigonometric function, -Taylor formula, -Beta and Gamma functions, Euler-Maclaurin formula, anf so forth. In [21], Ad var and Bohner investigated the eigenvalues and the spectral singularities of non-selfa-djoint -difference equations of second order with spectral singularities. In [12], Huseynov and Bairamov examined the properties of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a quadratic pencil of -difference equations. In [22], Agarwal examined spectral analysis of self-adjoint equations. In [23], Shi and Wu presented several classes of explicit self-adjoint Sturm-Liouville difference operators with either a non-Hermitian leading coefficient function, or a non-Hermitian potential function, or a nondefinite weight function, or a non-self-adjoint boundary condition. In [24], Annaby and Mansour studied a -analogue of Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problems and formulated a self-adjoint -difference operator in a Hilbert space. They also discussed properties of the eigenvalues and the eigenfunctions. In this paper, we consider -Sturm-Liouville Problem and define an adequate Hilbert space. Our main target of the present paper is to study -Sturm-Liouville boundary value problem in case of dissipation at the right endpoint of and with the spectral parameter at zero. The maximal dissipative -Sturm-Liouville operator is constructed using [25, 26] and Lax-Phillips scattering theory in [27]. Then we constructed a functional model of dissipative operator by means of

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: QTc dispersion is defined as the difference between the maximal and minimal correct QT interval on standard 12-lead ECG. Increased QTc dispersion has been reported in ESRD patients. In our study, we aimed to evaluate the frequency of QTc dispersion and its relationship between clinical and laboratory parameters in patients on regular dialysis programme.MATERIAL and METHODS: Sixty patients underwent dialysis (30 HD, 30 CAPD) and another 30 healthy subjects were enrolled into the study. The standard 12 lead ECGs were performed and QTcd was measured from all dialysis patients and control subjects. Blood samples were collected for the measurement of laboratory parameters.RESULTS: Dialysis patients showed significantly higher QTcd than control subjects (55.75±36.48 versus 28.73±28.27; p=0.001). Patients with QTcd >50 ms had significantly higher SBP, urea and ferritin levels, but significantly lower iron binding capacity and calcium levels compared those with QTcd ≤ 50 ms(p<0.05). Positive correlations were found between QTcd and urea, ferritin and SBP levels, and inverse correlations with iron binding capacity level (p<0.05).CONCLUSION: The frequency of QTc dispersion was 40% among the dialysis patients .Although serum calcium was significantly lower in patients who had QTcd >50 ms than QTcd ≤ 50 ms (p<0.05), there was no significant correlation between QTcd and calcium.
