Acute Type B Dissection Complicated by Aortic Coarctation  [PDF]

Abstract: We report a case of acute type B aortic dissection complicated by coarctation of aorta in 35-year-old women. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) showed a short segment aortic narrowing with diameter of 9.2 mm a small intimal tear, a true lumen, a false lumen, a markedly thick mural thrombus and pleural effusion. Open surgical procedure was performed and the aortic coarctation (CoA) and aortic dissection were resected and a 24-mm prosthetic graft was anastomosed. No pseudo aneurysms were present at the anastomosis sites on the follow up CTA.
Laparoscopic Excision of Leiomyoma of the Round Ligament of the Liver  [PDF]

Abstract: Leiomyoma of the round ligament of the liver is a very unusual tumor, and it shows nonspecific manifestations both in symptom and radiographic characterization. Herein, we report the case of leiomyoma which CT post-processing technique can directly exhibit the origin of the lesion. With radiological diagnosis, laparoscopic excision of the leiomyoma is carried out. Histopathology and immunohistochemical staining confirmed the leiomyoma of the round ligament. This case presents information to expand our knowledge focusing on the role of the CT post-processing technique before laparoscopic excision.
Numerical Study of Initial Soil Moisture Impacts on Regional Surface Climate  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper, the impacts of initial soil moisture (SM) over the Huaihe River Basin of China on the summertime climate have been investigated with a regional climate model. Three fourth-month-long simulations are made for two summers, the abnormal flooding in 2003 and normal climate in 2004. Besides control simulations (noted as CTL), sensitivity experiments have been conducted by assigning the initial soil moisture equals to 50% and 150% of the simulated soil moisture while keeping the others unchanged, which are noted as SM50 and SM150, respectively.The results show that effects of initial SM anomalies at late spring can last for the whole summer, and the increase of initial soil moisture (SM150) has more significant effects than the decreased one (SM50). The differences between sensitivity experiments and CTL mainly appear at surface and near-surface atmosphere. When increasing the initial SM, the latent heat flux and surface soil moisture are increased, correspondingly the sensible heat flux, temperature and radiation are all decreased. The changes of rainfall are not distinct between SM50 and SM150, which might be related to the processes within atmosphere, especially the humidity pattern.

Abstract: 2014 was called “the first year of the crowdfunding in China”. The State Council executive meeting on Nov. 19, 2014 put forward that we must establish a rapid refinance mechanism for capital markets, trying to launch equity crowdfunding. In December, the Securities Association of China solicited opinions on management measures of the private equity crowdfunding, which boosted the crowdfunding into the “fast track”. A lot of crowdfunding platforms appeared including the three giants (Jingdong, Taobao, Suning). The three giants occupied most of the market share. Other platforms constantly followed. Domestic crowdfunding industry has entered the flourishing mode. This paper analyzes the domestic developments of various crowdfunding platforms.

Abstract: We argue that a full understanding of a rational labor supply choice in a standard dynamic life cycle framework is obscure, despite the framework’s being seemingly self-explanatory, straight-forward, and intuitively sensible. In a completely friction-free environment, we, to our knowledge, are the first to provide a complete analytic solution to the benchmark model that presumes a kind of labor supply behavior that is typically taken as the standard in economic studies. We find that such standard behavior holds only for a narrow set of parameters. For many alternative parameterizations, the labor supply behavior of a rational agent is either highly unrealistic, or extremely hard to predict and interpret. A complete understanding of a rational, intertemporal labor supply choice requires further analysis.

Abstract:
We study a random planar honeycomb lattice model, namely the random double hexagonal chains. This is a lattice system with nonperiodic boundary condition. The Wiener number is an important molecular descriptor based on the distances, which was introduced by the chemist Harold Wiener in 1947. By applying probabilistic method and combinatorial techniques we obtained an explicit analytical expression for the expected value of Wiener number of a random double hexagonal chain, and the limiting behaviors on the annealed entropy of Wiener number when the random double hexagonal chain becomes infinite in length are analyzed.
Promising Antibody Testing Strategies for Early Infant HIV Infection Diagnosis in China

Abstract: Background In China, 1.1% of people living with HIV were transmitted vertically, causing a heavy burden on families and society. Early infant diagnosis (EID) is critical for improving neonatal survival. The purpose of this study is to suggest improvement in antibody testing strategies with dried blood spots (DBSs) for EID in China through analysis of anti-HIV seroreversion of infants. Methods A total of 280 infants born to HIV infected mothers in four diverse provinces of China where multiple subtypes coexist were enrolled. The status of the infants' infection was determined by HIV antibody enzyme immunoassay and Western blot analysis at ≥18 months of age or by convincing clinical and epidemiologic data for deceased infants. A total of 1028 DBSs were collected during follow-up, which were tested to obtain anti-HIV signal to cut-off ratio (S/CO) data. Results For uninfected infants, anti-HIV S/CO decreased with age. Seropositivity percentage declined most rapidly at 6 months to 9 months of age and 98.7% children seroreverted by 12 months of age. For most infected infants, minimum S/CO values were obtained at ≤6 months of age. Antibody negative predictive value was 100% at ≥6 months of age. An S/CO increase ≥1.86 after three months follow-up can determine HIV infection. S/CO threshold of 3.17 can differentiate infected from uninfected infants for exposed kids at 9 months or older with sensitivity as 100% and specificity ≥94.2%. Significance Suggestions obtained through studying seroreversion data of Chinese HIV-exposed infants help improve antibody strategies for HIV EID in China. The infection can be determined as early as 3 months of age and excluded as early as 6 months of age.
A Literature Review on the Relationship between Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth

Abstract: During the last decades, the relation between FDI and economic growth has been extensively discussed in the economic literature. Theories and existing literature provide conflicting results concerning this relationship. On one hand, some scholars argue that foreign direct investment could stimulate technological change through the adoption of foreign technology and know-how and technological spillovers, thus boosting host country economies. On the other hand, other pessimists believe that FDI may bring about crowding out effect on domestic investment, external vulnerability and dependence, destructive competition of foreign affiliates with domestic firms and “market-stealing effect” as a result of poor absorptive capacity. This paper sums up the literature as well as empirical studies on the relationship between foreign direct investment and economic growth, trying to arrive at a meaning revelation eventually.
A compressed sensing-based iterative algorithm for CT reconstruction and its possible application to phase contrast imaging

Abstract: In this paper, we present a compressed sensing-based (CS-based) iterative algorithm for CT reconstruction. The algorithm minimizes the l1-norm of the sparse image as the constraint factor for the iteration procedure. With this method, we can reconstruct images from substantially reduced projection data and reduce the impact of artifacts introduced into the CT reconstructed image by insufficient projection information.To validate and evaluate the performance of this CS-base iterative algorithm, we carried out quantitative evaluation studies in imaging of both software Shepp-Logan phantom and real polystyrene sample. The former is completely absorption based and the later is imaged in phase contrast. The results show that the CS-based iterative algorithm can yield images with quality comparable to that obtained with existing FBP and traditional algebraic reconstruction technique (ART) algorithms.Compared with the common reconstruction from 180 projection images, this algorithm completes CT reconstruction from only 60 projection images, cuts the scan time, and maintains the acceptable quality of the reconstructed images.Computed Tomography (CT), which obtains a series of projection data of objects concerned from several view angles, can get the tomograms of the objects through the technology of image reconstruction.
