Global dynamics of competition models with nonlocal dispersals I: Symmetric kernels

Abstract: In this paper, the global dynamics of two-species Lotka-Volterra competition models with nonlocal dispersals is studied. Under the assumption that dispersal kernels are symmetric, we prove that except for very special situations, local stability of semi-trivial steady states implies global stability, while when both semi-trivial steady states are locally unstable, the positive steady state exists and is globally stable. Moreover, our results cover the case that competition coefficients are location-dependent and dispersal strategies are mixture of local and nonlocal dispersals.
Numerical Study of Initial Soil Moisture Impacts on Regional Surface Climate  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper, the impacts of initial soil moisture (SM) over the Huaihe River Basin of China on the summertime climate have been investigated with a regional climate model. Three fourth-month-long simulations are made for two summers, the abnormal flooding in 2003 and normal climate in 2004. Besides control simulations (noted as CTL), sensitivity experiments have been conducted by assigning the initial soil moisture equals to 50% and 150% of the simulated soil moisture while keeping the others unchanged, which are noted as SM50 and SM150, respectively.The results show that effects of initial SM anomalies at late spring can last for the whole summer, and the increase of initial soil moisture (SM150) has more significant effects than the decreased one (SM50). The differences between sensitivity experiments and CTL mainly appear at surface and near-surface atmosphere. When increasing the initial SM, the latent heat flux and surface soil moisture are increased, correspondingly the sensible heat flux, temperature and radiation are all decreased. The changes of rainfall are not distinct between SM50 and SM150, which might be related to the processes within atmosphere, especially the humidity pattern.

Abstract: 2014 was called “the first year of the crowdfunding in China”. The State Council executive meeting on Nov. 19, 2014 put forward that we must establish a rapid refinance mechanism for capital markets, trying to launch equity crowdfunding. In December, the Securities Association of China solicited opinions on management measures of the private equity crowdfunding, which boosted the crowdfunding into the “fast track”. A lot of crowdfunding platforms appeared including the three giants (Jingdong, Taobao, Suning). The three giants occupied most of the market share. Other platforms constantly followed. Domestic crowdfunding industry has entered the flourishing mode. This paper analyzes the domestic developments of various crowdfunding platforms.

Abstract: We argue that a full understanding of a rational labor supply choice in a standard dynamic life cycle framework is obscure, despite the framework’s being seemingly self-explanatory, straight-forward, and intuitively sensible. In a completely friction-free environment, we, to our knowledge, are the first to provide a complete analytic solution to the benchmark model that presumes a kind of labor supply behavior that is typically taken as the standard in economic studies. We find that such standard behavior holds only for a narrow set of parameters. For many alternative parameterizations, the labor supply behavior of a rational agent is either highly unrealistic, or extremely hard to predict and interpret. A complete understanding of a rational, intertemporal labor supply choice requires further analysis.
The Annealed Entropy of Wiener Number on Random Double Hexagonal Chains  [PDF]

We study a random planar honeycomb lattice model, namely the random double hexagonal chains. This is a lattice system with nonperiodic boundary condition. The Wiener number is an important molecular descriptor based on the distances, which was introduced by the chemist Harold Wiener in 1947. By applying probabilistic method and combinatorial techniques we obtained an explicit analytical expression for the expected value of Wiener number of a random double hexagonal chain, and the limiting behaviors on the annealed entropy of Wiener number when the random double hexagonal chain becomes infinite in length are analyzed.
Association of genetic polymorphisms in the interleukin-10 promoter with risk of prostate cancer in Chinese

Abstract: We genotyped three SNPs of the IL-10 promoter (-1082A/G, -819T/C and -592A/C) using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis in 262 subjects with PCa and 270 age-matched healthy controls. Odds ratio and 95% confidence interval were determined by logistic regression for the associations between IL-10 genotypes and haplotypes with the risk of PCa and advanced PCa grade.No significant differences in allele frequency or genotype distribution were observed for any of the IL-10 SNPs between PCa patients and control subjects. Significantly higher frequencies of -1082G, -819C and -592C allele and GCC haplotype were observed, however, in early stage patients in comparison to advanced PCa patients (for -1082 G, 13.9% vs 6.1%, OR = 2.48, P = 0.005; for -819 C 40.3% vs 30.8%, OR = 1.51, P = 0.043; for -512C, 40.3% vs 30.8%, OR = 1.51, P = 0.043; and for haplotype GCC 11.1%vs 5.1%, OR = 2.66, P = 0.008, respectively).Our results identify that IL-10 promoter polymorphisms might not be a risk factor for PCa in Chinese cohorts, but rather incidence of polymorphisms associates with PCa grade, suggesting that IL-10 expression may impact PCa progression.Prostate cancer (PCa) is among the most common malignant tumors in Western males, ranking second only to lung cancer in cancer mortality [1]. Re-Emergence of Dengue Virus Type 3 in Canton, China, 2009–2010, Associated with Multiple Introductions through Different Geographical Routes

Abstract: Background Endemic dengue virus type 3 (DENV-3) infections have not been reported in Canton, China, since 1980. In March 2009, DENV-3 was isolated for the second time, occurring about 30 years after the previous circulation. In August, 3 other cases emerged. One much larger outbreak occurred again in 2010. To address the origin and particularly to determine whether the outbreaks were caused by the same viral genotype, we investigated the epidemiological and molecular characteristics of the introduction, spread and genetic microevolution of DENV-3 involved. Methodology/Principal Findings Three imported cases (index-1,2,3) separately traveled back from Vietnam, India and Tanzania, resulted in 1, 3 and 60 secondary autochthonous cases, respectively. In autochthonous cases, 64.6% positive in IgM anti-DENV and 18.6% in IgG from a total of 48 submitted serum samples, accompanied by 7 DENV-3 isolates. With 99.8%, 99.7%, and 100% envelope gene nucleotidic identity, 09/GZ/1081 from index-1 and endemic strain (09/GZ/1483) belonged to genotype V; 09/GZ/10616 from index-2 and endemic strains (09/GZ/11144 and 09/GZ/11194) belonged to genotype III Clade-A; and 10/GZ/4898 from index-3 and all four 2010 endemic DENV-3 strains belonged to genotype III Clade-B, respectively. Conclusions/Significance Both epidemiological and phylogenetic analyses showed that the 2010 outbreak of dengue was not a reemergence of the 2009 strain. Introductions of different genotypes following more than one route were important contributory factors for the 2009–2010 dengue epidemics/outbreaks in Canton. These findings underscore the importance of early detection and case management of imported case in preventing large-scale dengue epidemics among indigenous peoples of Canton.

Abstract: 补骨脂素和异补骨脂素是中药补骨脂的特征成分,含量较高且具有多种生物活性,目前已成为补骨脂及其产品的质量控制成分.本文以补骨脂干燥成熟果实为原料,经乙醇回流制备补骨脂粗提物,率先采用高速逆流色谱技术进行分离,所得样品由高效液相色谱检测纯度,并由对照品确定成分.实验结果表明:采用正己烷-乙酸乙酯-甲醇-水(7:3:5:5)作为两相溶剂体系,经一步逆流分离可以从补骨脂粗提物中分离得到补骨脂素和异补骨脂素,二者纯度分别达到99.4%、99.1%.该法具有制备量大、分离效率高等优点.
A Literature Review on the Relationship between Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth

Abstract: During the last decades, the relation between FDI and economic growth has been extensively discussed in the economic literature. Theories and existing literature provide conflicting results concerning this relationship. On one hand, some scholars argue that foreign direct investment could stimulate technological change through the adoption of foreign technology and know-how and technological spillovers, thus boosting host country economies. On the other hand, other pessimists believe that FDI may bring about crowding out effect on domestic investment, external vulnerability and dependence, destructive competition of foreign affiliates with domestic firms and “market-stealing effect” as a result of poor absorptive capacity. This paper sums up the literature as well as empirical studies on the relationship between foreign direct investment and economic growth, trying to arrive at a meaning revelation eventually.
Natural Infection of the Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus spp.) with Echinococcus granulosus in China

Abstract: Background Echinococcus granulosus is usually transmitted between canid definitive hosts and ungulate intermediate hosts. Methodology/Principal Findings Lesions found in the livers of ground squirrels, Spermophilus dauricus/alashanicus, trapped in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, an area in China co-endemic for both E. granulosus and E. multilocularis, were subjected to molecular genotyping for Echinococcus spp. DNA. One of the lesions was shown to be caused by E. granulosus and subsequently by histology to contain viable protoscoleces. Conclusions/Significance This is the first report of a natural infection of the ground squirrel with E. granulosus. This does not provide definitive proof of a cycle involving ground squirrels and dogs or foxes, but it is clear that there is active E. granulosus transmission occurring in this area, despite a recent past decline in the dog population in southern Ningxia.
