Abstract: In the title compound, [Mn(C7H5O3)2(C14H12N2)(H2O)]·C14H12N2·H2O, the MnII ion is coordinated by a bidentate 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dmphen) ligand, two monodentate 3-hydroxybenzoate anions (3-HBA) and one water molecule in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal environment. An uncoordinated dmphen and an uncoordinated water molecule cocrystallized with each complex molecule. Intra- and intermolecular O—H...N and O—H...O hydrogen bonds are also present between the coordinated 3-HBA and water molecules and the uncoordinated dmphen and water molecules in the crystal. The packing of the structure is further stabilized by π–π stacking interactions involving dmphen molecules, with a centroid–centroid separation of 3.705 (3) .
Graph Cuts Based Image Segmentation with Part-Based Models

Abstract: This study proposed an improved pre-labeling method based on deformable part models and HOG features for interactive segmentation with graph cuts. Because of the complex appearance of foreground and background, the result of segmentation is unsatisfactory. Many priors have been introduced into graph cuts to improve the segmentation results and our work is inspired by the shape prior. In this paper we use the deformable part-based model and HOG features to pre-label the seeds before the graph cuts algorithm. The user involvement is reduced and the performance of the graph cuts algorithm is improved at the first iteration. Our assumption is based on the compact shape. We assume that the area between the center of the part filter and root filter belongs to foreground. If the area covered by more filters, it will more probably be the foreground. Our results show that our method can get more accurate result especially the appearance of the object and background is similar and the shape of the object close to rectangle and eclipse.

Abstract:

A 22-year-old Chinese man presented with fever, cough, hoarseness, neck pain, acute heart failure and hemoptysis. Pulmonary tuberculosis was proved by sputum culture. Chest imaging showed an aortic arch pseudoaneurysm and bilateral ground glass opacities. Echocardiography confirmed cardiomyopathy. With anti-TB drugs, high-dose prednisone and surgery, the life of this patient was successfully prolonged for more than four months. The concomitant disorders of aortic pseudoaneurysm, alveolar hemorrhage and cardiomyopathy in pulmonary tuberculosis are intriguing. We postulate that immune-mediated small vessel vasculitis triggered by pathogens plays an important role in the pathogenesis of this disease, rather than a direct TB infection.

 

A Sensitive HPLC-MS/MS Analysis of Dencichine in Rat Plasma and Its Application to Pharmacokinetics  [PDF]

Abstract: In order to quantitate dencichine in biological samples, a selective and sensitive method for the determination of dencichine in rat plasma based on high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) was developed and validated. (l)-2-amino-3-(carboxymethylthio)propionic acid was used as the internal standard (I.S.). After a protein precipitation extraction with acetonitrile, dencichine and the I.S. were chromatographed on an Xterra MS-C18 column. The mobile phase was consisted of 20mmol/L ammonium acetate solution-acetonitrile (35:65, V/V) at a flow rate of 0.2 mL/min. The detection was performed on a triple quadrupole mass via electrospray ionization (ESI) source in the positive mode. The intra- and inter-day precision (relative standard deviation, R.S.D.) values of dencichine were below 6.7%. The extraction recoveries were up 85%. The lower limit of quantification was 20 ng/ml, which was sensitive enough to detect the analyte. The HPLC-MS/MS method was successfully applied to the pharmacokinetic study after an intravenous administration of dencichine in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat.
Quantitative analysis of the ribbon synapse number of cochlear inner hair cells in C57BL/6J mice using the three-dimensional modeling method

Abstract: In mammals, the ribbon synapses of cochlear inner hair cells are a synaptic structure of the first sensory nerve in the pathway of acoustical signal transmission to the acoustic center, and it is directly involved in voice coding and neurotransmitter release. It is difficult to quantitatively analyze the ribbon synaptic number only using an electron microscope, because the ribbon synaptic number is relatively limited and their location is deep. In this study, the specific presynaptic structure-RIBEYE, and non-specific postsynaptic structure-GluR 2 & 3 in C57BL/6J mouse basilar membrane samples were treated by immunofluorescent labeling. Serial section was performed on the samples using a laser scanning confocal microscope, and then the serial sections were used to build three-dimensional models using 3DS MAX software. Each fluorescein color pair indicates one synapse, so the number of ribbon synapses of inner hair cells is obtained. The spatial distribution and the number of ribbon synapses of cochlear inner hair cells were clearly shown in this experiment, and the mean number of ribbon synapses per inner hair cell was 16.10±1.03. Our results have demonstrated the number of ribbon synapses is accurately calculated by double immunofluorescent labeling to presynaptic and postsynaptic structures, serial sections obtained using a laser scanning confocal microscope, and three-dimensional modeling obtained using 3DS MAX software. The method above is feasible and has important significance for further exploring the mechanism of sensorineural deafness.

Robust adaptive output stabilization using dynamic normalizing signal

Abstract: For a class of nonlinear systems with dynamic uncertainties, robust adaptive stabilization problem is considered in this paper. Firstly, by introducing an observer, an augmented system is obtained. Based on the system, we construct an exp-ISpS Lyapunov function for the unmodeled dynamics, prove that the unmodeled dynamics is exp-ISpS, and then obtain a dynamic normalizing signal to counteract the dynamic disturbances. By the backstepping technique, an adaptive controller is given, it is proved that all the signals in the adaptive control system are globally uniformly ultimately bounded, and the output can be regulated to the origin with any prescribed accuracy. A simulation example further demonstrates the efficiency of the control scheme.

Abstract:

In water deficit area, judicious use of water is essential for increasing area under crop production with limited water supply. Film Mulching has been advocated as an effective means for conserving soil moisture in rice production. The effects of high density polyethylene (HDPE) film on increasing rice production, controlling weeds and residue amount of plastic were studied under five treatments, including 5, 10, 15 and 20 μm thickness as well as bare cultivation (CK). The results indicated that the HDPE film mulching mode had significant effects on weed control, soil temperature, soil moisture, photosynthetic rate, seedling biomass, yield and residues of plastic film. Combined with economic effect, it showed that the HDPE film of 10 μm is the best option for rice production.

Detecting Differential Expression from RNA-seq Data with Expression Measurement Uncertainty

Abstract: High-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) has emerged as a revolutionary and powerful technology for expression profiling. Most proposed methods for detecting differentially expressed (DE) genes from RNA-seq are based on statistics that compare normalized read counts between conditions. However, there are few methods considering the expression measurement uncertainty into DE detection. Moreover, most methods are only capable of detecting DE genes, and few methods are available for detecting DE isoforms. In this paper, a Bayesian framework (BDSeq) is proposed to detect DE genes and isoforms with consideration of expression measurement uncertainty. This expression measurement uncertainty provides useful information which can help to improve the performance of DE detection. Three real RAN-seq data sets are used to evaluate the performance of BDSeq and results show that the inclusion of expression measurement uncertainty improves accuracy in detection of DE genes and isoforms. Finally, we develop a GamSeq-BDSeq RNA-seq analysis pipeline to facilitate users, which is freely available at the website http://parnec.nuaa.edu.cn/liux/GSBD/GamSeq-BDSeq.html.
