Abstract:

A solid superacid catalyst Pt-SO42-/ZrO2-A12O3 for n-pentane isomerization, was prepared by incipient-wetness impregnation. Preparetion conditions, namely, calcination temperature, concentration of sulfuric acid solution used in impregnation and Al2O3 concentration, were varied to investigate the effects on catalytic performance of Pt-SO42-/ZrO2-A12O3. The results showed that the PtSZA catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic performance for n-pentane isomerization. Under optimized preparation conditions of calcination temperature of 650°C, reaction time for 3 h, concentration of sulfuric acid solution for 0.5 mol/L, 30% of Al2O3 concentration and 0.3% of Pt concentration, the n-pentane conversion and isopentane selectivity of Pt-SO42-/ZrO2-A12O

Abstract: This work proposes two aspects about construction materials abased on Wenchuan post-earthquake investigations. According to different feature failure modes in various damaged structures and the cause of the damage to the effects of the loading during the ground motion, the structural failures were found related to low cycle fatigue (LCF) properties of building steel. The hitherto research development is presented briefly. The characters of cycle response of the steels are tested and discussed. During the post-earthquake reconstruction process, the disposal of huge quantities of earthquake demolition waste brought great challenges. Utilizing the waste concrete taken from earthquake-stricken area as recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) in the new concrete is conducted. Furthermore, the application perspective of RCA is discussed.

Abstract: In this paper we investigate the existence of positive solution to the discrete second-order three-point boundary-value problem $$displaylines{ Delta^2 x_{k-1}+ h(k) f(x_k)=0, quad k in [1, n], cr x_0 =0, quad a x_l = x_{n+1}, }$$ where $n in [2, infty)$, $l in [1, n]$, $0 < a < 1$, $(1-a)l geq 2$, $(1+a)lleq n+1$, $f in C(mathbb{R}^+,mathbb{R}^+)$ and $h(t)$ is a function that may change sign on $[1, n]$. Using the fixed-point index theory, we prove the existence of positive solution for the above boundary-value problem.

Effects of temperature and surface orientation on migration behaviours of helium atoms near tungsten surfaces

Abstract: Molecular dynamics simulations were performed to study the dependence of migration behaviours of single helium atoms near tungsten surfaces on the surface orientation and temperature. For W{100} and W{110} surfaces, He atoms can quickly escape out near the surface without accumulation even at a temperature of 400 K. The behaviours of helium atoms can be well-described by the theory of continuous diffusion of particles in a semi-infinite medium. For a W{111} surface, the situation is complex. Different types of trap mutations occur within the neighbouring region of the W{111} surface. The trap mutations hinder the escape of He atoms, resulting in their accumulation. The probability of a He atom escaping into vacuum from a trap mutation depends on the type of the trap mutation, and the occurrence probabilities of the different types of trap mutations are dependent on the temperature. This finding suggests that the escape rate of He atoms on the W{111} surface does not show a monotonic dependence on temperature. For instance, the escape rate at T=1500 K is lower than the rate at T=1100 K. Our results are useful for understanding the structural evolution and He release on tungsten surfaces and for designing models in other simulation methods beyond molecular dynamics.
Impacts of Mild Hypothermia on LPS-Mediated TLR4/NF-κB Signaling Pathway in Microglia  [PDF]

Abstract: Background: Existing studies have found that some inflammatory factors cause brain cell damage through the TLR4/NF-κB pathway, and that mild hypothermia has a protective effect on nerve cells. It is not clear whether the mild hypothermic brain protection is achieved through the TLR4/NF-κB pathway in microglia. Objective: To investigate the impacts of mild hypothermia on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-mediated TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway in microglia. Method: The cultured microglia cells in vitro were divided into the NS group and the LPS group at 33?C and 37?C, respectively; quantitative RT-PCR was performed to detect the expressions of TLR4 and NF-κB mRNA in the microglia, Western blot was used to detect the expressions of TLR4 and NF-κB protein in the microglia, and ELISA was performed to detect the levels of tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) in the culture medium. Results: Under the LPS stimulation, the mRNA and protein expressions of TLR4 and NF-κB at different time points had significant changes between the normothermia group and the mild hypothermia group, in which the expressions in the former group were firstly increased and then decreased, while those in the latter showed a continuous increasing trend (P < 0.01); and the expressions of TNF-α in all the groups presented the trend of first-increasing then-decreasing, while IL-10 exhibited one slow linear increasing trend (P < 0.01). Conclusions: Mild hypothermia could inhibit the mRNA and protein expressions of LPS-mediated TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway in the microglia, and inhibit the production and release of downstream inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-10).
Far-Field Focus and Dispersionless Anticrossing Bands in Two-Dimensional Photonic Crystals

Abstract: We review the simulation work for the far-field focus and dispersionless anticrossing bands in two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystals. In a two-dimensional photonic-crystal-based concave lens, the far-field focus of a plane wave is given by the distance between the focusing point and the lens. Strong and good-quality far-field focusing of a transmitted wave, explicitly following the well-known wave-beam negative refraction law, can be achieved. The spatial frequency information of the Bloch mode in multiple Brillouin zones (BZs) is investigated in order to indicate the wave propagation in two different regions. When considering the photonic transmission in a 2D photonic crystal composed of a negative phase-velocity medium (NPVM), it is shown that the dispersionless anticrossing bands are generated by the couplings among the localized surface polaritons of the NPVM rods. The photonic band structures of the NPVM photonic crystals are characterized by a topographical continuous dispersion relationship accompanied by many anticrossing bands.
Effect of dimethylaluminumhydride-derived aluminum oxynitride passivation layer on the interface chemistry and band alignment of HfTiO-InGaAs gate stacks

Abstract: In this letter, the reduction and removal of surface native oxide from as-received InGaAs surface by using dimethylaluminumhydride-derived aluminum oxynitride (AlON) passivation layer prior to HfTiO deposition is proposed to solve Fermi level pinning issue. It has been revealed that complete consumption of native oxides of AsOx and GaOx at the InGaAs surface, but no effect to InOx, has been realized after metalorganic chemical vapor deposition AlON at 300 °C. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy observations of HfTiO/InGaAs gate stacks demonstrate that introducing AlON layer can suppress the regrowth of native oxide at the interface. In addition, the dependence of the valence band spectra of HfTiO/InGaAs gate stacks on AlON passivation layer has been discussed in detail.
