Research on a High-Efficiency LED Driving Circuit Based on Buck Topology  [PDF]

Abstract: A high efficiency LED(Light Emitting Diode) driver based on Buck converter, which could operate under a wide AC input voltage range(85V~265V) and drive a series of high power LEDs, is presented in this paper. The operation principles, power loss factors of the LED driver in this study are analyzed and discussed in detail and some effective ways to improve efficiency are proposed through system design considerations. To verify the feasibility, a laboratory prototype is also designed and tested for an LED lamp which consists of 16 LUMILEDS LEDs in series. Experimental results show that a high efficiency of 92% at I0=350mA can be achieved and the studied driver might be practical for driving high power LEDs. In the last, the overall efficiency over 90% is gained through some experiments under variable input and output voltages and verifies the validity of the designed driver.
Small Ribosomal Protein Subunit S7 Suppresses Ovarian Tumorigenesis through Regulation of the PI3K/AKT and MAPK Pathways

Abstract: Small ribosomal protein subunit S7 (RPS7) has been reported to be associated with various malignancies, but the role of RPS7 in ovarian cancer remains unclear. In this study, we found that silencing of RPS7 by a specific shRNA promoted ovarian cancer cell proliferation, accelerated cell cycle progression, and slightly reduced cell apoptosis and response to cisplatin treatment. Knockdown of RPS7 resulted in increased expression of P85α, P110α, and AKT2. Although the basal levels of ERK1/2, MEK1/2, and P38 were inconsistently altered in ovarian cancer cells, the phosphorylated forms of MEK1/2 (Ser217/221), ERK1/2 (Thr202/Tyr204), JNK1/2 (Thr183/Tyr185), and P38 (Thr180/Tyr182) were consistently reduced after RPS7 was silenced. Both the in vitro anchorage-independent colony formation and in vivo animal tumor formation capability of cells were enhanced after RPS7 was depleted. We also showed that silencing of RPS7 enhanced ovarian cancer cell migration and invasion. In sum, our results suggest that RPS7 suppresses ovarian tumorigenesis and metastasis through PI3K/AKT and MAPK signal pathways. Thus, RPS7 may be used as a potential marker for diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer.
Monitoring the Sewage Draining in Shenzhen Reservoirs Using Hyperspectral Data  [PDF]

Abstract:

Freshwater resources are regarded as the foundation of urban development and assure the sustainable prosperity of the city. The contaminations of fresh water in reservoirs can threaten safety of people directly and force the Industrial processes to be suspended. Therefore, developing a method to detect the potential locations where contaminated water drains off into the reservoirs efficiently and precisely is a challenging task but in urgent need. In this research, we used the air-borne sensor Hymap to get the hyperspectral data of Shenzhen. Finally we find a way to invert five water quality parameters (Suspended Solid (SS), Total Nitrogen (TN), Total Phosphorus (TP), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5)) from the Hymap image and we distinguish the clear water and polluted water on the image successfully.

Oxidative performance and surface properties of Co-containing mixed oxides having the K2NiF4 structure

Abstract: The complexed oxides Nd2 xSrxCoO4 (0.4 < x < 1.2) and LnSrCoO4 (Ln = Pr, Nd, Eu) having the K2NiF4 structure were synthesized by the citric-acid-complexion method. The results of XRD confirmed that the complexed oxides have the K2NiF4 structure. Other phases were found when x = 0.4 and x = 1.2. The influences of Nd, Pr, Eu on the activities of LnSrCoO4 for CO oxidation and C3H8 oxidation were different. The oxidative activities, average crystalline size and lattice distortion of Nd2 xSrxCoO4 increased with increasing x value in the oxides. When x > 0.8, the lattice distortion decreased with increasing x. The results of O2 TPD showed that amount of desorption of lattice oxygen over Nd2 xSrxCoO4 increased with x, however, the amount of chemidesorption of oxygen decreased. With increasing x, the high-temperature reduction peak in H2 TPR of Nd2 xSrxCoO4 shifted to higher temperatures, however, the low-temperature reduction peak shifted to lower temperatures, which showed that the activity of the lattice oxygen and the thermal stability of Nd2 xSrxCoO4 increased with increasing x.
Spin Filtering in a Nonuniform Quantum Wire with Rashba Spin-Orbit Interaction

Abstract: We investigate theoretically the spin-polarized electron transport for a wide-narrow-wide (WNW) quantum wire under the modulation of Rashba spin-orbit interaction (SOI). The influence of both the structure of the quantum wire and the interference between different pairs of subbands on the spin-polarized electron transport is taken into account simultaneously via the spin-resolved lattice Green function method. It is found that a very large vertical spin-polarized current can be generated by the SOI-induced effective magnetic field at the structure-induced Fano resonance even in the presence of strong disorder. Furthermore, the magnitude of the spin polarization can be tuned by both the Rashba SOI strength and structural parameters. Our results may provide an effective way to design a spin filter device without containing any magnetic materials or applying a magnetic field.
The Efficient Tissue Culture System of Orostachys fimbriata  [PDF]

Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the tissue culture and rapid propagation techniques of Orostachys fimbriata, a medicinal and ornamental herbaceous perennial herb belonging to the family Crassulaceae. The leaves of O. fimbriata were used as explants to investigate the effects of plant growth regulators such as thidiazuron (TDZ), 6-benzylamino purine (6-BA) and 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), on the induction of callus, differentiation of adventitious buds and rooting of shoots. Our results showed that optimum callus induction medium was MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg·L-1 TDZ and 0.2 mg·L-1 NAA. 1.5 mg·L-1 6-BA and 0.2 mg·L-1 NAA was the optimum hormone combination for differentiation of adventitious buds. And 0.1 mg·L-1 NAA could efficiently promote rooting. The survival rate of transplants reached about 90%. In this study, using leaves of O. fimbriata as explants, high efficient tissue culture and regeneration system of O. fimbriata were established, and the period from leave to transplant plantlet was about 3 months. The presently developed protocol could be used for large scale clonal propagation and germplasm conservation of O. fimbriata. The efficient tissue culture system of O. fimbriata would provide technical support for its utilization.
A De Novo Case of Floating Chromosomal Polymorphisms by Translocation in Quasipaa boulengeri (Anura, Dicroglossidae)

Abstract: Very few natural polymorphisms involving interchromosomal reciprocal translocations are known in amphibians even in vertebrates. In this study, thirty three populations, including 471 individuals of the spiny frog Quasipaa boulengeri, were karyotypically examined using Giemsa stain or FISH. Five different karyomorphs were observed. The observed heteromorphism was autosomal but not sex-related, as the same heteromorphic chromosomes were found both in males and females. Our results indicated that the variant karyotypes resulted from a mutual interchange occurring between chromosomes 1 and 6. The occurrence of a nearly whole-arm translocation between chromosome no. 1 and no. 6 gave rise to a high frequency of alternate segregation and probably resulted in the maintenance of the translocation polymorphisms in a few populations. The translocation polymorphism is explained by different frequencies of segregation modes of the translocation heterozygote during meiosis. Theoretically, nine karyomorphs should be investigated, however, four expected karyotypes were not found. The absent karyomorphs may result from recessive lethal mutations, position effects, duplications and deficiencies. The phylogenetic inference proved that all populations of Q. boulengeri grouped into a monophyletic clade. The mutual translocation likely evolved just once in this species and the dispersal of the one karyomorph (type IV) can explain the chromosomal variations among populations.
FISH of 5S rDNA and telomeric (TTAGGG) n repeats in normal and translocated populations of the frog Quasipaa boulengeri (Anura, Ranidae)

Abstract: Quasipaa boulengeri, a spiny frog, is widely distributed in the low mountain regions, around Sichuan Basin. Our previous study revealed five karyotypes, caused by a translocation, that are randomly distributed throughout different populations. 5S rDNA and telomere sequence (TTAGGG) n are potential good markers for chromosome identification and karyological evolution. In this study, we examined the sequences of 14 populations using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) to detect if there is any variation between karyologically normal and translocated populations. 5S rDNA loci were located at the same position on chromosomes 1 in 7 translocated populations. In two of the seven normal populations, 5S rDNA also occurred on chromosome 5 in addition to chromosome 1. Our findings further indicate that the 5S rDNA on No. 1 most likely represents the ancestral condition, while the minor loci represent the derived state. Signal density variations of the 5S rDNA were observed beteween homologous chromosomes or sister chromatids of pair 1 in both normal and translocated populations. Telomere sequences were identically located on all ends of the 26 chromosomes in seven rearranged populations, however, no ITSs were observed on the translocated chromosomes 1 and 6. Two of the six normal populations were found to contain ITSs which indicates that populations with translocation events diverged prior to those with ITSs rearrangements. In the KKS and BF populations, the ITSs of chromosome 3 are not always found on both homologues. Inter-chromosomal signal strength of telomeric sequences commonly differs within all populations.

Abstract: 香港回归祖国后,我国将在相当长的时间内实行“一国两制”。作为连结内地与香港的纽带,深圳经济特区与香港交界的区域将成为最受关注的、最活跃的经济开发区之一。根据近年来深港交界地区的开发实践和作者在该地区进行的系统研究,伴随着该区域特定的经济快速增长过程,以泥沙为载体而造成的生态环境问题日益突出。本文将经济开发过程与泥沙侵蚀、搬运和沉积过程结合,对沿深港两地交界带区域经济开发过程中泥沙对生态环境的影响进行了初步分析,并对今后研究的重要问题进行了探讨。
Long-term outcome of irradiation with or without chemotherapy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma: a final report on a prospective trial

Abstract: Purpose To investigate the long-term outcome of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) treated by irradiation with or without concurrent chemotherapy. Methods and materials A prospective clinical trial was carried out from 1998 to 2000. One hundred and eleven patients were randomly enrolled to receive either late course accelerated hyperfractionated irradiation (LCAF) or LCAF with concurrent chemotherapy (LCAF + CT). For LCAF, 41.4 Gy in 23 fractions was first delivered at five fractions per week, followed by 27 Gy in 18 fractions at two 1.5 Gy fractions a day. Concurrent chemotherapy of cis-platinum and 5-fluorouracil was administered for four cycles. Overall survival (OS), locoregional recurrence and distant metastasis were observed. Late toxicity was scored by RTOG criteria, and quality of life (QOL) was also evaluated. Results The median follow-up time was 24 months for all patients and 138 months for 17 living patients. Median survival time was 25 months and 32 months in LCAF and LCAF + CT (p = 0.653), respectively. For an entire group of patients, overall survivals were 34%, 27% and 22%; locoregional recurrence rates were 30%, 36% and 41%; and distant metastasis rates were 26%, 28% and 29% at 5-yr, 8-yr and 10-yr, respectively. Incidences of ≥ Grade 3 late toxicity were 29% at 10-yr. There were no statistically significant differences between LCAF and LCAF + CT with respect to the parameters mentioned above. Cumulative incidence of late toxicities of ≥ Grade 3 increased sharply after the attained age of 70 years. Eighty-eight percent of patients lived with good KPS (≥ 90) and 94% could eat regular or soft diet. Conclusion The long-term outcome of esophageal SCC patients who received LCAF or LCAF + CT was good. The locoregional and distant failures occurred more often in the first three years after treatment, but could continuously occur up to 10 years. The late toxicity was acceptable. Late toxicities ≥ Grade 3 were more likely to occur in elderly patients. QOL was good in living patients.
