The Description of Oil Displacement Mechanism in Steam Injection of Multi-Field Synergy with Exergy Transfer  [PDF]

Abstract:


Steam injection is a most effective way for improving heavy oil recovery efficiency, and it has academic and practical significance for the mechanism of multi-field synergy oil displacement. Mechanism of “diversified” oil displacement which is obtained by traditional study methods in the exploitation territory of oil and gas fields has both respective roles and mutual cross shortages. To describe and analyze the displacement process of multi-field coupling with exergy transfer can simplify this kind of problem by introducing a unified goal-driving exergy. It needs to use the method of theoretical modeling, numerical simulation and experimental validation to study the basic law of exergy transfer in the oil displacement process of multi-field synergy, make a thorough research for the flooding process of steam injection with exergy transfer theory and reveal the oil displacement mechanism in steam injection of multi-field synergy. Thus the theory instruction and technical support can be provided to improve reservoirs producing degree and extraction ratio.


Comparison of Abstracts Written by Native Speakers and Second Language Learners  [PDF]

Abstract: As an ideal vehicle for projecting news value, the journal abstract appears to be growing in importance, as noted by a number of writers, but the studies are still not enough, especially comparison study between the abstracts written by native speaker and second language learner. So this paper tries to find out both similarities and differences in structure of abstracts from these two groups through genre analysis of two corpuses: one for abstracts from native speakers, the other for abstracts from Chinese English learners. The results indicate that the Chinese learners focus too much on introduction move and can’t use tense properly in all cased. This result leads us to consider the teaching of writing for special purpose.
Effect of Pre-Departure Culture Preparation Courses on Student Learning during International Fieldwork  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper examined the effect of two pre-departure culture preparation courses on student learning during their International Fieldwork in Asia. These courses are designed to develop Anglo-European origin Australian students’ knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Asian societies, cultures, etiquettes, education and political systems, together with Asian problem solving and living styles. The courses further foster student skills in intercultural communication with people from Asia. A group of students completed the training and travelled to China for fieldwork. Their evaluation and feedback, together with their written assignments, were collated and analyzed. Results indicated that the two courses are effective in assisting students’ cultural adaptation to the host country environment and engaging in higher culture learning during their fieldwork.

Abstract: The Alternating Direction Multiplier Method (ADMM) is widely used in various fields, and different variables are customized in the literature for different application scenarios [1] [2] [3] [4]. Among them, the linearized alternating direction multiplier method (LADMM) has received extensive attention because of its effectiveness and ease of implementation. This paper mainly discusses the application of ADMM in dictionary learning (non-convex problem). Many numerical experiments show that to achieve higher convergence accuracy, the convergence speed of ADMM is slower, especially near the optimal solution. Therefore, we introduce the linearized alternating direction multiplier method (LADMM) to accelerate the convergence speed of ADMM. Specifically, the problem is solved by linearizing the quadratic term of the subproblem, and the convergence of the algorithm is proved. Finally, there is a brief summary of the full text.
Patient-Specific QA of Spot-Scanning Proton Beams Using Radiochromic Film  [PDF]

Abstract: Radiochromic film for spot-scanning QA provides high spatial resolution and efficiency gains from one-shot irradiation for multiple depths. However, calibration can be a tedious procedure which may limit widespread use. Moreover, since there may be an energy dependence, which manifests as a depth dependence, this may require additional measurements for each patient. We present a one-scan protocol to simplify the procedure. A calibration using an EBT3 film, exposed by a 6-level step-wedge plan on a Proteus®PLUS proton system (IBA, Belgium), was performed at depths of 18, 20, 24 cm using Plastic Water® (CIRS, Norfolk, VA). The calibration doses ranged from 65 - 250 cGy (RBE) (relative biological effectiveness) for proton energies of 170 - 200 MeV. A clinical prostate + nodes plan was used for validation. The planar doses at selected depths were measured with EBT3 films and analyzed using one-scan protocol (one-scan digitization of QA film and at least one film exposed to a known dose). The gamma passing rates, dose-difference maps, and profiles of 2D planar doses measured with EBT3 film and IBA MatriXX-PT, versus the RayStation TPS calculations were analyzed and compared. The EBT3 film measurement results matched well with the TPS calculation data with an average passing rate of ~95% for 2%/2 mm and slightly lower passing rates were obtained from an ion chamber array detector. We were able to demonstrate that the use of a proton step-wedge provided clinically acceptable results and minimized variations between film-scanner orientation, inter-scan, and scanning conditions. Furthermore, for relative dosimetry (calibration is not done at the time of experiment), it could be derived from no more than two films exposed to known doses (one could be zero) for rescaling the master calibration curve at each depth. The sensitivity of the calibration to depth variations has been explored. One-scan protocol results appear to be comparable to that of the ion chamber array detector. The use of a proton step-wedge for calibration of EBT3 film potentially increases efficiency in patient-specific QA of proton beams.

Abstract: Co-ZnO films were prepared on oxidised silicon by magnetron sputtering at room temperature both with and without a ZnO buffer-layer. The Co-ZnO films consisted of Co particles dispersed in a semiconductor matrix. The combination of a Co-ZnO layer and a ZnO buffer-layer has a higher magnetoresistance than the Co-ZnO layer alone on an insulating Si substrate. The causes of this effect were investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, depth profiling using Auger electron spectroscopy and electrical resistance as well as measurements of the change in the saturation magnetisation, the field cooled- and zero field cooled-magnetisation. This work has shown clearly what criteria are needed to optimise the magnetoresistance and how these conditions may be met by adding a buffer-layer thus making granular films based on ZnO more suitable for applications as field sensors.
Familial tumoral calcinosis in two Chinese patients: a case series

Abstract: Familial tumoral calcinosis was present in two members of a Han Chinese family, namely, the son and daughter. The 14-year-old son had the first operation on his right sole of the foot at the age of six, and then experienced subsequent surgeries at a lesion in his right sole of the foot and left hip, respectively. The 16-year-old daughter underwent her first operation at the age of six in her left gluteal region, and subsequent surgeries were performed due to recurrence at the same lesion. Pathologic diagnoses of surgical specimens in both of the patients were reported as tumoral calcinosis. The laboratory results showed hyperphosphatemia with normal levels of serum calcium and alkaline phosphatase. Only surgical treatment was performed in both patients with satisfactory prognosis.This is the first report of Chinese familial tumoral calcinosis. The etiopathogenisis and treatment are discussed.Tumoral calcinosis (TC) was first described by Inclan [1] in 1943 as slow growing, progressive masses usually found adjacent to large joints such as hips, shoulders and elbows. The masses are hard and painless. Recurrence tends to be observed at the same location subsequent to inadequate resection. Further identification is based on the pathogenesis. We describe the first two cases of familial TC in Chinese siblings, and present their clinical and pathological features.A 14-year-old Han Chinese boy presented with an eight-year history of TC. He first noticed a painful mass on the bottom of his right foot at the age of six, and mass resection was performed. Then an operation was conducted for a mass that developed on the bottom of his left foot at the age of eight. A mass first occurred on his left hip at the age of 12. This mass excised and diagnosed on pathology as a tendon calcification tumor. After that, a recurrent mass on his lateral left hip was observed. Abstract: in this manuscript, the influence of organosolv beech wood lignin (lob) on its oxidative conversion to high added-value phenolic aldehydes is discussed. environmental friendly and low-cost h2o2 was used as the oxygen atom donor. the catalyst was prepared by immobilizing lanthanum compounds onto the periodic mesoporous channels of siliceous sba-15. the activity of the la/sba-15 was investigated towards oxidation of lob in the presence of hydrogen peroxide as oxidant with microwave irradiation. considering the characteristics of lob, an unexpected low syringaldehyde concentration at 10min of reaction time (1.47 g/l, corresponding to 15.66% yield) was obtained; the other major product was vanillin at 25min (0.78 g/l, i.e., 9.94% yield). the high reactivity of syringyl nuclei may be pointed out as the main reason for the faster production and degradation of syringaldehyde in oxidation. other low molecular weight phenolic products were found: vanillic acid, syringic acid and minor quantities of aceto-derivatives. the profile of products concentration with the reaction time of catalytic oxidation with microwave irradiation are shown and discussed with reference to the investigated lignin features. the mechanism of the microwave catalytic oxidation for lob under alkaline conditions was proposed.
