Abstract: in this work, a morphological characterization of germplasm accessions of wild brazilian species of peanut, section arachis was accomplished. also, an analysis of the genetic similarity among accessions and between species was evaluated. the experiment was undertaken from 1993 to 1996, at the campinas experimental station of the instituto agron?mico (iac). accessions evaluated were made available by the wild arachis genebank of embrapa recursos genéticos e biotecnologia (cenargen - brasília, df) and include a. palustris krapov., w.c. gregory & valls, a. decora krapov., w.c. gregory & valls, a. praecox krapov., w.c. gregory & valls and a. stenosperma krapov. & w.c. gregory. quantitative and qualitative phenotypic data were collected according a list of morphological descriptors. results showed that accessions of a. stenosperma are very similar, despite the large geographical distance between them. also, this species forms an isolated group, distant from the other species. characters such as main stem diameter, fruit and seeds length were useful to separate a. stenosperma from the other species. arachis decora has a high variation between accessions for many characters used. arachis palustris shows high morphological variation between accessions, although only two accessions were studied, concerning plant height, seed width, peg, isthmus, leaflet, rachis, and main stem dimensions, presence or absence of hairs on the leaflet. arachis praecox, represented in this work by a single accession, is more similar to a. decora than to other species.

Abstract: objective: to evaluate the survival rate of patients with advanced prostate cancer in a univariate form, according to the preoperative and first postoperative determination of psa levels. materials and methods: from february 1987 to june 1995, 92 patients were submitted to maximum blockage androgen (subcapsular and antiandrogen orchiectomy), independent of clinical symptons shown upon admission to the cancer hospital. the antiandrogens (ciproterone acetate and flutamide) were administered until the patient present progression of the disease. results: the age of patients varied from 44 to 89, with a median of 70 years old. in the 6th, 36th and 60th months the global survival rate was 80%, 38% and 20%, respectively. the preoperative psa ranged from 2 to 4017 ng/ml, with a median of 98 ng/ml (98% had psa greater than or equal to 10 ng/ml). the first postoperative psa ranged from 1 to 3840 ng/ml, with a median of 20 ng/ml. there was a tendency towards a better survival rate only in patients with initial psa from 2 to 99 ng/ml (p=0.06745). the survival rate of patients at 36 months after the initial total blockage androgen, with first psa level from 1 to 4, 5 to 49 and over 49 ng/ml was 72%, 48% and 8%, respectively (p=0.00004). in the final examination, 34 (37%) patients were considered stable and 58 (63%) had disease progression. conclusion: the psa determination performed on the 30th postoperative day is important in the evaluation of advanced prostate cancer prognosis.
EFFECT OF THE TREATMENT OF SEEDS WITH FUNGICIDES IN CONTROLLING DAMPING OFF OF THE BEAN (Phaseolus vulgaris L) CAUSED BY Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn EFEITO DO TRATAMENTO DE SEMENTES COM FUNGICIDAS NO CONTROLE DO TOMBAMENTO EM FEIJOEIRO (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) CAUSADO POR Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn

Abstract: Some fungicides were tested in control of Rhizoctonia solani in bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) planted in soil inoculated with this fungus. The evaluations were made at 10, 20 and 30 days after sowing, observing germination and damping-off. The results showed that the fungicides thiram (280g. a.i./ 100kg seeds) have no increased plant stand in Phaseolus vulgaris, in relation to the non treated control. Seed treatments with PCNB (450g a.i./ 100kg seeds), iprodione + thiram (200g a.i/l00kg seeds) and iprodione + thirarn (240g a.i./100kg seeds), increased plant stand in percentages varying from 65 to 73%, respectively in relation to non treated control, but the best treatment was with iprodione + thiram (320g a.i./l00kg seeds), presenting an increase around 83%.

Conceptual Content and Unattended Visual Features
PEREIRA,FRANCISCO;
Ideas y Valores , 2009,
Abstract: mcdowell (1994) proposed a philosophical theory about perceptual content -call it "conceptualism"- that states that in every case the content of a visual experience necessarily involves concepts that fully specify every single feature consciously and simultaneously available during the experience. in this paper i will question conceptualism, arguing that some visual experiences carry information about so many objects, properties and relations at the same time that it is unlikely for subjects to possess and implement concepts for every feature represented simultaneously by the experience at that time. if this is the case, then mcdowell's conceptualism is insufficiently grounded.
EL ROL DE LOS OBJETOS DISTALES EN LA PERCEPCIóN VISUAL
Pereira,Francisco;
Praxis Filosófica , 2008,
Abstract: some philosophers point out that the visual experiences that we undergo when perceiving are ontologically of the same kind as those experiences that we could undergo if we were having a perfectly matching hallucination. if in both cases there is an ontologically highest common factor-an experience of the same kind-then distal objects clearly do not constitute fundamentally our visual experiences. one of the reasons used for the adoption of this particular interpretation is the possibility of producing a hallucination, which is introspectively indiscriminable from a perceptual experience, by activating the same proximate neurophysiological causes in the subject’s brain. in this paper i will argue that this reason is clearly insufficient. indeed, i will suggest that there is an alternative way to understand perception as a natural phenomenon in which distal objects do play a constitutive role (causal and non-causal). if this is the case, then perceptual experiences and perfectly matching hallucinations are fundamentally different, even if they are introspectively indiscriminable.
PERCEPCIóN, CONTENIDO INTENCIONAL Y SINGULARIDAD
Pereira,Francisco;
Revista de filosofía , 2008, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-43602008000100010
Abstract: many philosophers think that perceptual contents are always general and shouldn't be specified using singular terms. they believe that distal objects and properties don't essentially constitute perceptual contents. i will argüe that this strategy doesn't provide a satisfactory account of content specification and fails to make sense ofthe common-sense intuition that the veridicality of our perceptual experiences isn't something fully independent of whether we perceive or not. finally, i will suggest an altemative "singularist" standpoint in which distal objects do enter into visual contents, making perceptions and hallucinations fundamentally different types of experiences.
