Changepoint Analysis by Modified Empirical Likelihood Method in Two-phase Linear Regression Models  [PDF]

Abstract:

A changepoint in statistical applications refers to an observational time point at which the structure pattern changes during a somewhat long-term experimentation process. In many cases, the change point time and cause are documented and it is reasonably straightforward to statistically adjust (homogenize) the series for the effects of the changepoint. Sadly many changepoint times are undocumented and the changepoint times themselves are the main purpose of study. In this article, the changepoint analysis in two-phrase linear regression models is developed and discussed. Following Liu and Qian (2010)'s idea in the segmented linear regression models, the modified empirical likelihood ratio statistic is proposed to test if there exists a changepoint during the long-term experiment and observation. The modified empirical likelihood ratio statistic is computation-friendly and its ρ-value can be easily approximated based on the large sample properties. The procedure is applied to the Old Faithful geyser eruption data in October 1980.

Cymbal Structural Optimization for Improving Piezoelectric Harvesting Efficiency with Taguchi’s Orthogonal Experiment  [PDF]

Abstract:

To improve piezoelectric harvesting efficiency of Cymbal, optimization design of Cymbal parameters was studied with the method of Taguchi’s orthogonal experiment. The effective factors of piezoelectric harvesting property were firstly analyzed. The orthogonal experiment schedule was then designed. The finite element model of Cymbal was built via ASPL tool in ANSYS software and static analysis was done. The experimental results were gotten with developed program. The optimization level of each factor was gained. Under the synthetical optimization level of each design factor, the piezoelectric analysis was tested and the open voltage of 236.476 V was revealed with improving 35.73% than the maximum voltage of 174.228 V in the orthogonal experiment. The average voltage of 229.98 V was measured with the manufactured optimized Cymbal structure design. The relative error was 2.54% between simulation and measured data. It indicated that the optimization design schedule was reasonable. Cymbal harvester with the optimized parameters could scavenge larger voltage.

Abstract: genome sequencing is a very important tool for the development of genetic diagnosis, drugs of gene engineering, pharmacogenetics, etc. as the hgp comes into people's ears, there is an emerging need for the genome sequencing. during the recent years, there are two different traditional strategies available for this target: shotgun sequencing and hierarchical sequencing. besides these, many efforts are pursuing new ideas to facilitate fast and cost-effective genome sequencing, including 454 gs system, polony sequencing, single molecular array, nanopore sequencing, with each having different unique characteristics, but remains to be fully developed.

Abstract: purpose: to elucidate and discuss the role of il-35 in immunity to parasitic and bacterial infections as well as in autoimmunity in terms of its anti-infammatory properties, we highlight significant findings on this novel member of the il-12 family. methods: studies using genetically defcient mice have greatly enhanced our understanding of the biology of il-35. on the basis of data derived from the analysis of these genetically deficient mice published by nih, we focus on the key features of this heterodimeric cytokine, especially its relation to the other il-12 family members, and discuss its potential relevance to the clinical usage. principal fndings: il-35 is required for the cd4+cd25+ treg cells-mediated immune regulation, the alleviation of some inflammatory responses, as well as the expansion of cd4+cd25- teff cells simultaneously. moreover, administration or augmentation of il-35 suppresses some diseases of autoimmune or allergic origin like collagen-induced arthritis or helicobacter- induced colitis in animal models, demonstrating its potential in therapy of diseases mediated by inflammatory cytokines. however, some questions involving it are still unclear, including the composition of il-35 receptor, il-35-related cell signaling pathway, the different expression patterns of il-35 between human and murine t cells, etc. conclusion: as our understanding of the il-35 is rapidly growing and changing, it will bring us more therapeutic strategies towards some intractable immune diseases such as lupus erythematosus.
Effect of Jianwei Yuyang Granules on expression of epidermal growth factor receptor in gastric mucosa of gastric ulcer patients

Abstract: Objective: To observe the effect of Jianwei Yuyang Granules on the expression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in the gastric mucosa of gastric ulcer patients. Methods: Sixty gastric ulcer patients (final diagnosis by gastroscope) were randomly divided into Jianwei Yuyang Granules treated group (JWYY group, n=30) and western medicine treated group (control group, n=30). Ten patients without gastric mucosa lesion were treated as normal control group. The expression of EGFR in the mucosa was tested by immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR. Results: Expression of EGFR and EGFR mRNA was not observed in patients without gastric mucosa lesion, and slight expression was observed in the edge of ulcer region of the gastric ulcer patients. The expression of EGFR and EGFR mRNA was increased in JWYY group and control group. Conclusion: Jianwei Yuyang Granules enhances the expression of EGFR in the mucosa of gastric ulcer patients to prevent peptic ulcer recurrence.

Basándose en estudios de ratones genéticamente defcientes se ha determinado que se requiere IL-35 para la acción inmunoreguladora de las células T reguladoras CD4+CD25+, para mitigar algunos procesos inflamatorios y para expandir simultáneamente los clones de células T efectoras CD4+CD25-. Mas aún, la administración o estimulación de la acción de IL-35 en modelos animales, suprime algunas enfermedades de origen alérgico o autoinmune tales como la colitis colágena y la colitis inducida por Helicobacter. Abstract: This paper, based on theories of Contrastive Linguistics deals with the contrastive study concerning two Chinese versions of the Great Gatsby rendered respectively by Wu Ran, and Wu Ningkun et al from the following two perspectives: differences on lexicon and syntax. Through a systematic comparison and contrast, the writer suggests that we should apply contrastive studies of English and Chinese in our TEFL practice to enhance teaching efficiency.
Two-pion interferometry for the granular sources in the heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies

Abstract: We investigate the two-pion interferometry in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions in the granular source model of quark-gluon plasma droplets. The pion transverse momentum spectra and HBT radii of the granular sources agree well with the experimental data of the most central Au-Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV at RHIC and Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV at LHC. In the granular source model the larger initial system breakup time for the LHC collisions as compared to the RHIC collisions may lead to the larger HBT radii $R_{\rm out}$, $R_{\rm side}$, and $R_{\rm long}$. However, the large droplet transverse expansion and limited average relative emitting time of particles in the granular source lead to the ratio of the transverse HBT radii $R_{\rm out}/R_{\rm side} \sim 1$.

Abstract: A review on the two-pion Hanbury-Brown-Twiss (HBT) interferometry in the granular source model of quark-gluon plasma droplets is presented. The characteristic quantities of the granular source extracted by imaging analysis are presented and compared with the HBT radii obtained by the usual Gaussian formula fit. The signals of granular sources are presented.
Breakdown of Fast Water Transport in Graphene Oxides

Abstract: Fast slip flow was reported for water inside the interlayer gallery between graphene layers or carbon nanotubes. We report here that this flow rate enhancement (over two orders) breaks down with the presence of chemical functionalization and relaxation of the nanoconfinement in graphene oxides. Molecular dynamics simulation results show that hydrodynamics applies in this circumstance, even at length scales down to nanometers. However, corrections on the slip boundary condition and viscosity of nanoconfined flow must be included to make quantitative predictions. These results were discussed with structural characteristics of the liquid water and hydrogen bond networks.
