Abstract: the production of tannase by aspergillus tamarii was studied in submerged cultures. the fungus produced an extracellular tannase after two days of growth in mineral medium containing tannic acid, gallic acid and methyl gallate as carbon source. the best result was obtained using gallic acid as inducer (20.6 u/ml). the production of enzyme was strongly repressed by the presence of glucose. crude enzyme was optimally active at ph 5.0 and 30o c. the enzyme was stable in a large range of ph and up to the temperature of 45o c.
Photosensitive-polyimide based method for fabricating various neural electrode architectures

Abstract: An extensive photosensitive-polyimide (PSPI)-based method for designing and fabricating various neural electrode architectures was developed. The method aims to broaden the design flexibility and expand the fabrication capability for neural electrodes to improve the quality of recorded signals and integrate other functions. After characterizing PSPI's properties for micromachining processes, we successfully designed and fabricated various neural electrodes even on a non-flat substrate using only one PSPI as an insulation material and without the time-consuming dry etching processes. The fabricated neural electrodes were an electrocorticogram (ECoG) electrode, a mesh intracortical electrode with a unique lattice-like mesh structure to fixate neural tissue, and a guide cannula electrode with recording microelectrodes placed on the curved surface of a guide cannula as a microdialysis probe. In vivo neural recordings using anesthetized rats demonstrated that these electrodes can be used to record neural activities repeatedly without any breakage and mechanical failures, which potentially promises stable recordings for long periods of time. These successes make us believe that this PSPI-based fabrication is a powerful method, permitting flexible design, and easy optimization of electrode architectures for a variety of electrophysiological experimental research with improved neural recording performance.
Coccoid Helicobacter pylori Can Directly Adhere and Invade in Agminated Formation to Human Gastric Epithelial Cells  [PDF]

Abstract: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) can infect into the epithelial cell to cause benign or malignant disorders. Under stressful environment, a spiral form of H. pylori is transformed into a coccoid form. The infectivity of the coccoid form is still controversial. Since spiral forms are transformed into two types of coccoid forms via different mechanisms, the infectivity of the two types of coccoid forms into human gastric epithelial cell was examined. A laboratory and a clinical strain of H. pyloriv were cultured in liquid medium under different conditions to produce the two types of coccoid forms. These coccoid H. pylorisv were then co-cultured with human derived gastric epithelial cell, MKN-28. Adhesion and penetration of bacteria into MKN-28 cells were monitored by scanning-, standard transmission- and immunotransmission-electron microscopy (SEM, TEM and ITEM). We observed that both coccoid forms were able to adhere onto the surface of MKN-28 cells in agminated formation and also penetrated into the gastric epithelial cells besides the spiral form of H. pyloriv. Coccoid H. pylori is not a passive entity but can actively infect the human gastric epithelial cell.

Abstract: While search engines have become vital tools for searching information on the Internet, privacy issues remain a growing concern due to the technological abilities of search engines to retain user search logs. Although such capabilities might provide enhanced personalized search results, the confidentiality of user intent remains uncertain. Even with web search query obfuscation techniques, another challenge remains, namely, reusing the same obfuscation methods is problematic, given that search engines have enormous computation and storage resources for query disambiguation. A number of web search query privacy procedures involve the cooperation of the search engine, a non-trusted entity in such cases, making query obfuscation even more challenging. In this study, we provide a review on how search engines work in regards to web search queries and user intent. Secondly, this study reviews material in a manner accessible to those outside computer science with the intent to introduce knowledge of web search engines to enable non-computer scientists to approach web search query privacy innovatively. As a contribution, we identify and highlight areas open for further investigative and innovative research in regards to end-user personalized web search privacy—that is methods that can be executed on the user side without third party involvement such as, search engines. The goal is to motivate future web search obfuscation heuristics that give users control over their personal search privacy.
Asymptotic Analysis for Spectral Risk Measures Parameterized by Confidence Level  [PDF]

Abstract: We study the asymptotic behavior of the difference \"\" as \"\", where \"\" is a risk measure equipped with a confidence level parameter \"\" , and where X and Y are non-negative random variables whose tail probability functions are regularly varying. The case where is the value-at-risk (VaR) at α, is treated in [1]. This paper investigates the case where \"\" is a spectral risk measure that converges to the worst-case risk measure as \"\" . We give the asymptotic behavior of the difference between the marginal risk contribution \"\" and the Euler contribution \"\" of Y to the portfolio X+Y . Similarly to [1], our results depend primarily on the relative magnitudes of the thicknesses of the tails of X and Y. Especially, we find that \"\" is asymptotically equivalent to the expectation (expected loss) of Y if the tail of Y is sufficiently thinner than that of X. Moreover, we obtain the asymptotic relationship \"\" as \"\", where \"\" is a constant whose value likewise changes according to the relative magnitudes of the thicknesses of the tails of X and Y. We also conducted a numerical experiment, finding that when the tail of X is sufficiently thicker than that of Y, \"\" does not increase monotonically with α and takes a maximum at a confidence level strictly less than 1.

Abstract: O principal objetivo do presente trabalho consiste na análise do regime de parcelamento imposto aos credores da Fazenda Pública pela EC 62/09 como forma de corrigir o cr nico inadimplemento dos precatórios judiciais. Após a consolida o de algumas premissas, ser o investigadas as modifica es engendradas no artigo 100, da Constitui o, pelas sucessivas emendas constitucionais propostas pelo legislador reformador. Por derradeiro, far-se-á uma abordagem centrada nos regimes de parcelamento criados pelo legislador de modo a promover a dila o temporal do pagamento dos precatórios judiciais. No que tange aos parcelamentos, ser o apresentadas, de forma fundamentada, as raz es que levam à inconstitucionalidade das emendas constitucionais que impuseram esses regimes. A partir do estudo dos elementos acima mencionados e da realidade enfrentada pelos credores da Fazenda Pública, imp e-se a conclus o de que o sistema atual de pagamento de obriga es judiciais pelos entes públicos n o é eficaz, na medida em que n o concretiza de forma satisfatória os créditos decorrentes de decis o judicial transitada em julgado. The main objective of this paper is the analysis of the instalment regime imposed to the creditors of the State by the 62th Constitutional Amendment of 2009 as a form of correcting the repeated problem of judicial precatório. After the consolidation of some premises, modifications introduced by the article 100 of the Federal Constitution by the continuous changes proposed by the derivative constitutionalist will be scrutinized. Lastly, the regimes of instalments created by the legislator to temporarily dilate the payment of the Precatórios will be studied. The reasons for that the instalments are unconstitutional will be presented. The logical conclusion, given that situation and the reality presented to the creditors of public debt, is that the current obligation enforcement system is not efficient, provided that it does not satisfactorily executes the judicial sentences.

Abstract: Navigatio Sancti Brendani Abbatis is a famous branch of Latin medieval texts that relates the voyage of an Irish saint, Brendan, and his monks in search of the terra repromissionis, a distant islandparadise. Apparently this narrative was widely known during the Western Middle Ages. There are more than a hundred extant manuscripts, from which the oldest dates back the tenth century. It seems that the journeys of the intrepid saint nourished the imaginary of medieval man; however, there are few scientific works devoted to understand the reason of such fame or at least comprehend the historic meaning of the text, inserting it and examining it in the light of the context in which it was produced and by which it was received. Identifying the necessity to fill in this gap, we decided to investigate the text examining the idea of peregrinatio, extremely important in the construction of its meaning.
Mapping of the Water Table Levels of Unconfined Aquifers Using Two Interpolation Methods  [PDF]

Abstract: The spatial prediction of the water table can be used for many applications related to civil works (foundations, excavations) and other urban and environmental management activities. Deterministic and geostatistical interpolation methods were used to predict the spatial distribution of water table levels (unconfined aquifers) of important geological formations of the Joao Pessoa City (capital of Paraiba State, Brazil) with dense urban occupation and high demand for new civil works. The deterministic (topo to raster) and geostatistical (ordinary kriging) interpolation methods were evaluated using a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based investigation. The water table levels were obtained from 276 boring logs of Standard Penetration Test (SPT) in situ investigation distributed over the geological formations studied (an area of 59.8 km2, covering 40 districts of the Joao Pessoa City). The Nspt values and textural characterization data are stored for levels of 1 m depth. Some boreholes located in the area investigated were not included in the interpolation processes in order to be compared with estimated values (validation of the results). Maps of the water table depths were also produced to further analyze the quality of the water table surfaces interpolated by both methods. The phreatic surface interpolations provided satisfactory results for both methods (RMSE = 1.8 m). The topo to raster method showed a slight general tendency to be less affected by local values in relation to the kriging method and also has the advantage of integrating the drainage flow system, which is a relevant aspect for spatial models of the water table levels of unconfined aquifers. The ordinary kriging (geostatistical method) provides a prediction surface and some measure of the certainty or accuracy of the predictions.
