Role of color Doppler flow imaging in applicable anatomy of spleen vessels

Abstract: AIM: To explore the role of color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) in visualization of spleen vessels and to define its value for spleen micro-invasive operation.METHODS: A total of 36 patients requiring laparoscopic splenectomy (LS) for various hematopathies and autoimmune diseases were randomly selected from April 2005 to May 2008. Anatomic types of spleen pedicle, adjacent relations between spleen vessels and pancreas, diameters of spleen artery and vein were detected and recorded by preoperative CDFI. Different operative procedures were performed according to different anatomic frameworks. The parameters were recorded by telerecording during LS and compared with those by preoperative CDFI using Chi-square test.RESULTS: Two anatomic types of spleen pedicle and four different adjacent relations between spleen vessels and pancreas were detected by CDFI. The diameters of spleen artery and vein detected by CDFI were 0.46 ± 0.09 cm and 0.85 ± 0.35 cm, respectively. There was no statistical difference between the parameters recorded by CDFI and by telerecording (χ2 = 0.250, 0.677, P > 0.05). LS was successfully performed following the anatomic information provided by preoperative CDFI.CONCLUSION: Different anatomic frameworks of spleen vessels can be provided by preoperative CDFI, which instructs micro-invasive operation of spleen and increase the safety of operation.
Structural Feature and Solute Trapping of Rapidly Grown Ni3Sn Intermetallic Compound

Abstract: The rapid dendritic growth of primary Ni3Sn phase in undercooled Ni-30.9%Sn-5%Ge alloy is investigated by using the glass fluxing technique. The dendritic growth velocity of Ni3Sn compound is measured as a function of undercooling, and a velocity of 2.47m/s is achieved at the maximum undercooling of 251K (0.17TL). The addition of the Ge element reduces its growth velocity as compared with the binary Ni75Sn25 alloy. During rapid solidification, the Ni3Sn compound behaves like a normal solid solution and it displays a morphological transition of ``coarse dendrite-equiaxed grain-vermicular structure' with the increase of undercooling. Significant solute trapping of Ge atoms occurs in the whole undercooling range.

Abstract: The title compound, C19H15ClN2O5S, contains two molecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. In molecule A, the dihedral angles between the thiazole ring and the pendant chlorobenzene and nitrobenzene rings are 72.14 (15) and 3.03 (15)°, respectively. The corresponding angles for molecule B are 45.56 (16) and 1.51 (14)°, respectively. In the crystal, both molecules form inversion dimers linked by pairs of weak C—H...O interactions.

A Vehicle Overtake Accessorial Navigation System Based on Monocular Vision

Abstract: A lane and preceding vehicle detection and overtake system based on the monocular vision is designed for intelligent vehicle in structural two-lane road environment,which can work in both sunny and cloudy days. Experimental results show that the algorithm used in the system can detect the lane and the different preceding vehicle and overtake vehicle automatically,safely and exactly under different visibility conditions.

Abstract: In the title compound, C17H14BrClN4O2, the pyrazole ring is almost coplanar with the benzene ring [dihedral angle = 0.5 (2)°], whereas the pyrazole ring is close to perpendicular to the 3-chloropyridine ring [dihedral angle = 73.7 (2)°]. An intramolecular C—H...O hydrogen bond occurs. The dominant interaction in the crystal packing is an N—H...N hydrogen bond, which generates a chain along the c axis. Weak intermolecular C—H...O and C—H...N contacts are also observed
Transverse Thermoelectric Conductivity of Bilayer Graphene in Quantum Hall Regime

Abstract: We performed electric and thermoelectric transport measurements of bilayer graphene in a magnetic field up to 15 Tesla. The transverse thermoelectric conductivity $\rm\alpha_{xy}$, determined from four transport coefficients, attains a peak value of $\rm\alpha_{xy, peak}$ whenever chemical potential lies in the center of a Landau level. The temperature dependence of $\rm\alpha_{xy, peak}$ is dictated by the disorder width $\rm W_L$. For $\rm k_BT/W_L\leq$0.2, $\rm\alpha_{xy, peak}$ is nominally linear in temperature, which gives $\rm\alpha_{xy,peak}/T=0.19 \pm 0.03 n A/K^2$ independent of the magnetic field, temperature and Landau Level index. At $\rm k_BT/W_L\geq$0.5, $\rm\alpha_{xy, peak}$ saturates to a value close to the predicted universal value of $\rm 4\times(ln2)k_Be/h$ according to the theory of Girvin and Jonson. We remark that an anomaly is found in $\rm\alpha_{xy}$ near the charge neutral point, similar to that in single-layer graphene

Abstract: This study explores the international impact of Chinese language learning on the management policy of a community Chinese language school in the United States. Chinese language schools in the U.S. used to teach Mandarin to Mandarin-speaking students who are highly homogeneous in their linguistic and cultural backgrounds. However, as the impact of China's recent economic development has become more international, so has the influence of Chinese language learning? This international impact of Chinese language learning is reflected in the increasingly heterogeneous student population in many Chinese language schools in the United States. These schools have to adapt their management policy to accommodate these new students, who may have a multicultural, multilingual background and do not speak Mandarin at home. This study examines one such school.This study is a case study of a Chinese language school's adaptations in its management policy when it faces the international impact of Chinese language learning. The school, located in New York City, had one teacher, two students, two parents of these two selected students, and three administrators as participants. Data were collected through interviews and document collection. This study found that: 1. the school believed in the importance of learning Chinese and thus the necessity of well-accommodating new students of different cultural and linguistic backgrounds; and 2. the linguistic heterogeneity in the school was initiated by China's rising economy and would continue to be impacted by such an economic force in the future.
A Facile Asymmetric Synthesis of (S)-14-Methyl-1-Octadecene, the Sex Pheromone of the Peach Leafminer Moth

Abstract: An asymmetric synthesis of 14-methyl-1-octadecene, the sex pheromone of the peach leafminer moth has been achieved. The target molecule was synthesized in six linear steps and in 30.3% overall yield from commercially available hexanoyl chloride, ( S)-4-benzyloxazolidin-2-one and 1,9-nonanediol. The hexanoyl chloride was connected with ( S)-4-benzyloxazolidin-2-one, and with the induction of the chiral oxazolidinone auxiliary, after chiral methylation, LAH reduction and then tosylation gave the chiral key intermediate 5 in high stereoselectivity. 1,9-Nonanediol, was selectively brominated, THP protected and subjected to Li 2CuCl 4-mediated C-C coupling to afford a C 12 intermediate. The target molecule, ( S) -14-methyl-1-octadecene, was obtained after the two parts were subjected to a second Li 2CuCl 4-mediated C-C coupling. Our synthetic approach represents the first time a substrate-control asymmetric synthesis of ( S)-14-methyl-1-octadecene has been reported.
