Identification of impact aroma compounds in Eugenia uniflora L. (Brazilian Pitanga) leaf essential oil
Melo, Rosineia M.;Corrêa, Vivian F. S.;Amorim, Ana Carolina L.;Miranda, Ana Luisa P.;Rezende, Claudia M.;
Journal of the Brazilian Chemical Society , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-50532007000100020
Abstract: the leaf essential oil of eugenia uniflora l. (myrtaceae) was extracted by clevenger apparatus and analysed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (gc-ms). the leaves were collected and immediately extracted for five consecutive days at 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. no variance in the oil yields were observed in the period. furanodiene and its rearrangement product, furanoelemene (or curzerene, 50.2%), b-elemene (5.9%) and a-cadinol (4.7%) were identified as the most abundant compounds. gc-olfatometry (gc-o) associated to aroma extract dilution analysis (aeda) allowed the identification of nine active aroma compounds, where furanodiene (along with furanoelemene, fd 1024), b-elemene (fd 256) and (e,e)-germacrone (fd 256) were characterized as the main impact aroma compounds in the odor of this essential oil. those substances were collected through a sniffing port adapted on the gc allowing to obtain a typical essence of pitanga as indicated by comparative olfatometric analysis.
On the Energy-Momentum Flux in G?del-type Models

Physics , 2013, DOI: 10.1142/S0217732313500399
Abstract: In this paper we work in the context of Teleparallelism Equivalent to General Relativity (TEGR) in order to construct the energy-momentum flux for G\"odel-type solutions of Einstein's equations. We use an stationary observer, which is settled by the tetrad choice, to obtain the gravitational pressure for each direction of space in cartesian coordinates. Then we write down the total pressure for each direction in terms of the pressure of the fluid, thus we are able to identify role of the gravitational pressure.

Abstract: the aim of this study was to analyze the prevalence of prostrate cancer screening among men aged 50 years or older based on socioeconomic, demographic, and health-related behavioral variables and the presence of morbidity. a population-based cross-sectional study was performed. the following factors were associated with failure to undergo screening: age under 70 years; less than eight years of schooling; per capita household income less than one-half the minimum wage; not having diabetes; lack of visual impairment; and lack of visit to the dentist in the previous year. the brazilian public healthcare system accounted for 41% of the reported prostate cancer screening tests. according to the present study, despite controversy over the effectiveness of digital rectal examination and prostrate-specific antigen for detecting prostate cancer, a significant portion of the male population has been undergoing these tests, the access to which displays significant socioeconomic inequalities.

Abstract: this study analyzes the prevalence of mammograms and clinical breast examination according to socioeconomic, demographic, and health-related behavioral variables in women 40 years or older in campinas, s?o paulo state, brazil. this was a cross-sectional population-based study (n = 290). based on multivariate analysis, factors associated with not having a mammogram in the previous two years were: age (> 70 years), race/ethnicity (black or mixed-race), and low per capita family income. lack of clinical breast examination in the previous year was associated with: marital status (single/widow/without partner) and low income. the unified national health system (sus) performed 28.8% of reported mammograms and 38.2% of clinical breast examinations. according to the findings, lack of breast cancer screening is associated with social and racial inequity, and reduction in breast cancer mortality requires early detection of the disease, which in turn demands that health care facilities implement strategies to expand coverage of preventive practices, especially for more vulnerable social groups.

Abstract: this study analyzes the prevalence of non-submittal to pap smears according to socioeconomic, demographic, and health-related behavioral variables in women 40 years or older in campinas, s?o paulo state. this was a cross-sectional population-based study with a sample of 290 women. based on multivariate analysis, factors associated with not having pap smears were: age (40-59 years), race/ethnicity (black or mixed-race), and schooling (< 4 years). the following reasons were cited for not having pap smears: considered unnecessary (43.5%), embarrassment (28.1%), and barriers related to health services (13.7%). the unified national health system performed 43.2% of the reported pap smears. health services should promote more equitable access to the health care system and improve the quality of care for women, since pap smears are an effective tool against cervical cancer. the study confirmed that women's failure to obtain pap smears is associated with social and racial inequality, placing these women at increased risk of cervical cancer.

Abstract: This article is about a report of the experiment of PRO/PET-Saúde students in the anti-HIV tests implementation in the town of Santa Cruz-RN. The goal is to report the importance and discuss the aspects of the moment experienced above inside the basic health unit in the town of Santa Cruz-RN. The experience occurred in the months from February to March 2014 and they were conducted within 8 hours per week. This way, it is observed that the period lived made possible great reflection about the making of the examination in the pre-natal appointment routines, cataloguing challenges which come up during their adequacy within the services. Lastly, the action developed aimed for the aggregation of an active learning process in the search for a critical sense in the experienced practice, allowing and prioritizing the basic health unit as a scope of reference and counter-reference in the public health service, increasing concrete answers and the needs of the population, guaranteeing an adequate service delivery and strengthening the SUS more and more. The insertion of students through the PRO/PET-Saúde-Rede Cegonha enables a reorientation of professional formation, from the integration between service and teaching.
Detection of Legionella pneumophila in water and biofilm samples by culture and molecular methods from man-made systems in S?o Paulo - Brazil
Carvalho, Fábio R.S.;Foronda, Annette S.;Pellizari, Vivian H.;
Brazilian Journal of Microbiology , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-83822007000400029
Abstract: legionella pneumophila is a pathogenic bacteria associated to aquatic habitat of natural and artificial environments. clinical cases of legionellosis have been reported in brazil but there is a lack of information about the incidence and concentration of this bacterium in environmental sources. thus, the present study was designed to evaluate the occurrence of legionellae in s?o paulo city, brazil, using different methods of detection and identification. sixty-seven water and biofilm samples from natural reservoirs and man-made systems were collected and analyzed for the presence of legionella spp by culturing onto a selective medium, coculture in axenic free-living amoebae and direct fluorescent antibody (dfa) assay. results showed that freshwater of reservoirs did not contain legionellae, legionella pneumophila was isolated from man-made systems, with predominance of legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 strains. although there was no statistical difference among the proposed detection methods, the plate culture method yielded a higher number of l. pneumophila positive samples, followed by amoebic coculture procedure and direct fluorescent antibody assay. results of pcr and sequencing reactions revealed that application of macrophage infectivity potentiator gene as a molecular marker was an important tool for the identification of environmental isolates of l. pneumophila. the agreement among the three detection methods-when all methods yielded similar results- and the prevalence of a single legionella species in the sampled man-made systems could suggest that the occurrence of this bacterium had been influenced by the higher concentration of metallic ions dissociated in water of those systems than in natural reservoirs. thus, the results of this study revealed that the water of man-made systems in sao paulo may serve as a reservoir for l. pneumophila and other microorganism, including free-living protozoans.
