Abstract: Potassium is present in distinct forms in the soil. The K forms in the soil are characterized by reversible exchanges between compartments and they have different characteristics in regards to availability for plant uptake. The soil's capacity to supply or restrict K to plants is different for each soil and it determines the sustainability of agricultural production and fertilization management. Thus, the goal of this study was to evaluate the K supplying capacity of soils of different mineralogies from Minas Gerais (Brazil), under successive corn cultivation. A greenhouse experiment was carried out in factorial 7 x 6 (seven soils and six rates of K), in a randomized complete block design, with four replications. The corn plants were cultivated during 45 days for seven successive crop cycles in pots. The potassium availability in the soil was evaluated at the beginning and at the end of each crop cycle using Mehlich-1 and Mehlich-3 extractors. All treatments showed significant decreases in soil K content, which affected corn dry matter accumulation. The reserve of K was highest in Ultisols followed by Inceptisols and Oxisols. Contribution of non-exchangeable potassium to the plant nutrition was observed. The K availability in soil measured by Mehlich-1 represented 40% of K uptake by plants, and 61% of K uptake when Mehlich-3 was used.

Abstract: adventitious rooting of ornamental plants can be accelerated by the application of growth regulators, such as auxin. humic acids, organic matter in soil and organic compounds also have a biostimulant effect. this work evaluated the rooting in cuttings of croton (codianeum variegatum l. rumph) and hibiscus (hibiscus rosa-sinensis l) in response to the application of different concentrations of indolbutyric acid (iba) and humic acid (ha). the experiment was carried out in a greenhouse. apical stem cuttings were treated with solutions at concentrations of: 0, 250, 500, 1000, 2000 mg l-1 iba and 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 mmol l-1 ha carbon isolated from vermicomposting. forty-five days after the applications, the cuttings were removed from the pots containing carbonized rice hull and the following variables were measured: rooting number, length and width of leaves, fresh and dry matter of root and aerial part and root area. the results were subjected to analysis of variance and the qualitative and quantitative effects of the treatments were compared by contrast and regression, respectively. regression equations were used to determine the maximum efficiency level of root dry matter according to iba and ha. higher accumulation of root dry matter was recorded for the treatments with the doses 579 mg l-1 iba and 14 mmol l-1 ha and 970 mg l-1 iba and 50 mmol l-1 ha for root cuttings of croton and hibiscus, respectively. it was found that the application of eiher iba or ha at the indicated doses accelerates rooting in cuttings of croton and hibiscus and contributes to the formation of vigorous plants.

Abstract: the goals of this work were to evaluate the influence of the irrigation on the cashew apple production and the ratio of apple: nut weights in dwarf cashew (anacardium occidentale l.). three clones were evaluated (cp 09, cp 76 and cp 1001), under four irrigation levels (a: control - without irrigation; b: irrigation with 1 day interval; c: with 3 days interval, and d: with 5 days interval). the experimental design was in randomized blocks, with split-split plots and four replicates, with irrigation levels in plots and clones in splited-plots, each one with four plants. the amount of water used was based on information from class a evaporation pan. the results led to the following conclusions: the response of dwarf cashew to the irrigation is dependent of genotype; cp 76 presents the biggest ratio of apple: nut weights, what elects in the clone more suitable for production of apples for in natura consumption; clone cp 1001 is more adapted for dry ground conditions.

Abstract: Maturity has been little addressed by organization studies. This is, however, a relevant issue, especially when considering the various criticisms against the manager profession on the harmful consequences of it to stakeholders and to society, as exemplified by scandals and systemic crises. This theoretical essay aims to present a three-dimensional matrix of maturity developed from an interdisciplinary basis. The conceptual matrix addresses maturity through three dimensions: individual/social, psychological and political. It is advocated that the achievement of maturity involves the various capacities of the individual to face his internal and external reality, as well as his ability to act in the world. The analysis here developed offers the following conclusions: (a) maturity is not only dependent on the individual but on the relationships established in group as well; (b) the phenomenon has unconscious origins, which may determine part of behavior and relationships in groups; and (c) maturity is intimately related to balanced, reflexive and participatory human action.
A mixed integer nonlinear programming formulation for the problem of fitting positive exponential sums to empiricaldata
Adalys Alvarez,Hugo Lara
Opuscula Mathematica , 2011,
Abstract: In this work we deal with exponential sum models coming from data acquisition in the empirical sciences. We present a two step approach based on Tikhonov regularization and combinatorial optimization, to obtain stable parameter estimations, which fit the data. We develop properties of the solutions, based on their optimality conditions. Some numerical experiments are shown to illustrate our approach.
