Abstract: This article aims at discussing the institutionalization of Primary Education in Sergipe demonstrating the interdependence of foreign and Brazilian laws, which were published in the newspaper Jornal do Aracaju (1872). The evidences for it can be found through ads, educational legislation, and the Provincial Assembly speeches on Primary Education in the 19th century, in Sergipe. The sources mentioned establish an interdependent relationship among state, family and government agents, mediated by laws and the press, having been analyzed under the historiographical matrix of Cultural History. The research demonstrates the fertility of the debates in the Imperial period and the plurality of educational practices and aspects that produced a school form that was implemented throughout the 19th century.

Abstract: This paper investigates the transformations that contemporary education is suffering under the new requirements arisen from the information era regarding the representation of time and the production of information and knowledge. Through a bibliographical study, this paper moves the discussion between the dematerialization of space, the acceleration of time and the strangeness of multicultural knowledge where universal concepts and instant question in a relentless need to innovate and reform the foundations of science, education, arts and culture are noticed. Based on the reflections of Pierre Levy, Michel Foucault, David Harvey, Paul Virilio and ágnes Heller it mentions uncertainties that denounce the apparent inefficiency of institutions that seek immediate solutions in Education in order to reduce the inability to keep up with the dynamic contemporary requirements.

The objective of this study was to demonstrate the effect of two protocols of transcutaneous electrical diaphragmatic stimulation (TEDS) on the respiratory muscle strength of healthy women, with one protocol according to Geddes et al. (1988) and other protocol standardized by Phrenics equipment. Healthy women were divided in 3 groups: Control (n=7); TEDS with Phrenics (n=7) and TEDS with Dualpex (n=7). The treatment was made twice a week, during 6 weeks (12 sessions). Respiratory muscle strength was evaluated by maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) and maximal expiratory pressure (MEP) before and after the treatment. The statistical analysis was made by the Shapiro-Wilk and the Kruskal Wallis test with Dunn's post-hoc test (p<0.05). Both TEDS protocols promoted increase in MIP (Phrenics: 32.9%; Dualpex: 63.2%) and in MEP (Phrenics: 44.7%; Dualpex: 60.9%), differently of the Control that didn't show difference. In conclusion, the two TEDS' protocols promoted increase of inspiratory and expiratory muscle strength in healthy women.

Abstract: dent's disease type 1 is an x-linked tubular disease caused by mutations in the renal chloride channel clcn-5, and it is characterized by low molecular weight proteinuria, hypercalciuria, nephrocalcinosis, and renal failure. several cases have been described in which the only presenting symptoms were asymptomatic proteinuria, and focal segmental or global glomerulosclerosis. the renal failure in these patients may be caused by hypercalciuria and persistent proteinuria. therefore, angiotensin converse enzyme inhibitor and thiazides could be useful. our aim is to report the effects of these drugs in two novel mutations patients with dent's disease type 1. in this report, no significant correlations between dosage of hydrochlorothiazide and calciuria and no significant correlations between proteinuria and dosage of enalapril were detected. this is important since these are polyuric patients and these drugs could be dangerous to their renal function.

Santos, Ana Paula Pires dos;Séllos, Mariana Canano;Ramos, Maria Eliza Barbosa;Soviero, Vera Mendes;
Brazilian Oral Research , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-83242007000100011
Abstract: the purpose of this study was to associate oral hygiene frequency and presence of visible biofilm in the primary dentition. the sample consisted of 90 children, aged up to 4 years old, outpatients of the university hospital of the rio de janeiro state university. the examinations were carried out in a dental office by a single trained examiner who was aided by an assistant. the parents answered a structured questionnaire about oral hygiene methods and frequency. two biofilm indices, one simplified (bf1) and the other conventional (bf2), were used. bf1 classifies biofilm as absent, thin or thick, in anterior and/or posterior teeth, and provides a score for the patient, whereas bf2 classifies biofilm as absent or present, provides scores for three surfaces of each tooth and the final score is the percentage of tooth surfaces with biofilm. more than half of the parents (51 - 56.7%) reported they cleaned their child's teeth at least twice a day, while 7 (7.8%) had never cleaned their child's teeth. bf1 revealed that 12.2% (11) of the children had no visible biofilm, 37.8% (34) had thin biofilm in anterior and/or posterior teeth, 27.8% (25) had thick biofilm in anterior or posterior teeth and 22.2% (20) had thick biofilm in both anterior and posterior teeth. bf2 revealed a mean value of 21.8% (s.d. 16.5). no statistically significant correlations were found between oral hygiene frequency and the two biofilm indices (p > 0.05), indicating that oral hygiene frequency was not associated to oral hygiene quality in the evaluated sample.

Abstract: data on the prevalence and distribution of species of anopheles in ariquemes (state of rondonia) show, that the diversity is greater at the periphery of the town and that anopheles darlingi is recorded at nearly all of the sampling points. the entomological survey revealed different levels of penetration by a. darlingi in to the urban area: sectors 1 and 3 are free of malaria transmission, sectors 2 and 4 show risks at the periphery, and the industrial sector, sector of special areas, bnh housing estate, sector 5 and the old town are areas of high risk for malaria. these areas had the highest indices of mosquitoes per man-hour, with variations of this index during the sampling period and depending on locality. measures of population density showed seasonal variation, with the lowest indices during the rainy season. malaria transmission is discussed in relation to 1) the physical structure of the town at the time it was jounded ; 2) the streams that border the urban area and their relation to the life cycle of the anophelines; 3) biting activity of the species colected in natural environments and areas altered by man; and 4) the importance of environmental management for malaria control by reducing the vector population density. to reduce the penetration of urban areas by mosquitoes from the surrounding countryside, a protective belt around the town is proposed. this belt should be of sparse forest and include alternative hosts to encourage the zoophilic tendencies of the anophelines. infection rates among anophelines in areas authocthonous for malaria incriminate a. darlingi as a vector. the possibility of transmission by other species is discussed.
