Creative Education (CE) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2015.62022
Abstract: Nowadays education for all is recommended as an international action. However in Brazil one can observe homogeneous practices for a heterogeneous public. When the student has learning difficulties, there seems to be an attempt to normalization and pathologization by the means of referral, many times being indiscriminate, to health services. This case study aimed to analyze records of pedagogical strategies to meet the students educational needs before sending them to health services. Two records sent to a multidisciplinary team of a Regional Specialty Clinic (ARE) in a city of the state of São Paulo/Brazil, were used. The results reflect that the records of the educators do not show the pedagogical strategies used with the students and that the education system still seeks homogeneous classes, devaluating the diversity present in its context.

Revista Brasileira de Saúde Materno Infantil , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-38292010000400004
Abstract: objectives: to ascertain the frequency and severity of complications resulting from artificial abortions and their possible association with the use of misoprostol. methods: a cross-sectional study was carried out. for ten months, a checklist (of world health organization criteria) was applied to all 543 women admitted to hospital for abortion at two hospitals in the city of campinas, in the state of s?o paulo, brazil. those classified as having a possibly, pro-bably or certainly artificial abortion were asked to fill in the questionnaire. results: of all the women admitted to hospital, 259 (48%) were classified as possibly, probably or certainly having an induced abortion and these filled in the questionnaire; 25 women stated that they had induced the abortion and, of these, nine mentioned the use of misoprostol. infections and hemorrhaging were complications in 10% and 13% of the 259 women. those who used misoprostol had fewer complications than those who used other methods, although this difference was not statistically significant, perhaps for reason of the low frequency for complications. conclusions: the data show a reduction in the frequency and severity of complications arising from abortion, although it is not possible to point to the use of misoprosol as being responsible for this.

Ciência Rural , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-84782002000400010
Abstract: a serological survey to detect antibodies against leptospira spp. was conducted on dairy goats serum samples collected from 15 counties on the state of rio grande do sul, brazil. serum samples collected from a total of 354 goats were tested against 12 serological leptospira serovar, using the microscopic agglutination test. at the time of blood collection, all the animals were clinically examined and no clinical sign suggestive of leptospirose was observed. the prevalence of positive serum, as determined at dilution of 1:100 or higher, was 3.4%. agglutinins against three serovar (icterohaemorragiae, pomona and hardjo) were found in positive animals. these findings are suggestive of the presence of leptospira infection on goats herds grazed on the state of rio grande do sul and also does suggest the presence of more than one serovar on the herds studied.

Revista Brasileira de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-72032004000300005
Abstract: objective: to evaluate platelet parameters in normal and pre-eclamptic pregnant women. methods: a controlled cross-sectional study was carried out. the medical records of the women who had delivered in the hospital universitário júlio müller-cuiabá/mt, from january 1, 2001 to july 31, 2002, were reviewed. the pregnant women were pre-selected based on their platelet parameters analyses performed after the 28th week of gestation. two groups of study were analyzed: pe group (36 pre-eclamptic women) and np group (58 normal pregnant women). the platelet parameters analyzed by the automated method were: platelet counts, mean platelet volume (mpv), platelet distribution width (pdw) and platelet - large cells ratio (p-lcr). for statistical analysis the student t-test and the chi-square test were used to compare the groups, and to evaluate the degree of dependence among the variables, the coefficient of determination was used (r2). for all these tests, the significance level considered was p < 0.05. results: the platelet counts did not show difference between the two groups. however, all other platelet indices (mpv, pdw and p-lcr) were significantly higher in the pe group. the severity of the disease was documented in 91.7% of the pre-eclamptic women, despite the fact that none of the patients included had shown thrombocytopenia as a criterion of severity. negative correlation was detected between the platelet counts and the other platelet parameters analyzed and there was positive correlation between mpv and pdw, mpv and p-lcr, and pdw and p-lcr. positive correlation was also observed between mpv, pdw and p-lcr, and the maximum systolic and diastolic blood pressures. conclusions: pre-eclampsia was associated with these platelet parameters, suggesting alterations of the platelet functions. the clinical applicability of these parameters, as early markers of severity of pre-eclampsia, needs more studies.
