Revista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-06832008000400001
Abstract: soil management systems modify the spatial distribution of soil physical properties. the objectives of this study were to verify the spatial dependency and co-relationship of some soil physical properties by data fitting to individual and cross-semivariograms in an oxisol (typic haplorthox) under no-till and conventional tillage, in campo mour?o, state of parana, brazil. in april 2004, 128 undisturbed soil samples were collected in a 3 x 5 m grid, in the middle of the 5-0.15 m layer. the following soil physical properties were measured: soil bulk density, macroporosity, microporosity, total soil porosity and soil water content at a tension of 100 hpa (field capacity). the spatial variability in the single semivariogram of these soil physical properties was higher and the range in no-tillage was smaller than in conventional tillage. on the other hand, the cross-semivariogram of soil bulk density and total porosity or field capacity indicated spatial co-relationships with lower spatial variability and higher ranges in no-tillage than conventionally tilled soils. the cross-semivariogram suggested that soil bulk density showed a spatial co-relationships with the other soil physical properties in both soil management systems studied.
A??o afirmativa e o combate ao racismo institucional no Brasil
Silvério, Valter Roberto;
Cadernos de Pesquisa , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-15742002000300012
Abstract: this article analyzes the debate on affirmative action in brazil in the light of the bibliography about racism and the legal basis for equal opportunities. from this perspective, it challenges the critical visions to the implementation of reparatory policies, gathering evidence on the state's participation in the legitimation of racial discrimination in the country. such involvement is explored in the school institution context, examining the consequences of prejudice on the identity and self-esteem of black children and youth.

Modern Research in Inflammation (MRI) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/mri.2012.11002
Abstract: Objectives: Smoking increases oxidative modification of LDL, associated with lower HDL plasma levels, systemic inflammatory response and endothelial dysfunction. We tested the hypothesis that the risk status for coronary atherosclerosis disease (CAD) of cigarettes smokers might be identified by means of serum oxidative levels and vascular inflammation determination. Design and Methods: Oxidative stress levels, cytokines, and the metabolic status were investigated on 499 subjects admitted to our institute. The association between biomarkers and smoking habits in the presence/absence of disease and with the number of vessel affected, was studied. Results: Oxidative stress and inflammatory levels (p < 0.001) were strongly induced by smoking habits. Serum values of the subjects categorised as CAD, non CAD and healthy subjects differed significantly (p < 0.001) only for the degree of oxidative stress. Glycaemia was able to affect C-reactive protein serum levels with a positive association (p < 0.05). The analysis of the study population indicated that serum oxidative stress levels significantly increased with increasing number of vessels affected (p < 0.01). When statistical analysis was performed separately in both smoking groups, smokers did not show any particular difference for both oxidative stress and inflammation markers between the two groups of cardiovascular patients (CAD and non CAD) and the control group, while for non smokers, the differences were evident. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the considered biomarkers, especially oxidative stress, can be useful to predict the biological damage caused by cigarette smoking, as well as to identify subjects characterised by a higher risk of cardiovascular event, but cannot evaluate the presence of disease in subjects with smoking habit.
Operários na floresta: trabalho e cotidiano nas serrarias de Irati/PR na primeira metade do século XX

Revista Tempo, Espa?o e Linguagem , 2010,
Abstract: The building of the S o Paulo-Rio Grande Railway in the Mid Southern region of Brazilian state of Parana in 1900 prompted the installationof many sawmills. To extract wood demanded enough manpower whichattracted many people for this activity. Not infrequently the sawmill workers had villages in the forest. This article attempts to reconstruct parts of the lives of workers in sawmills at Irati/PR.

Revista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-43662007000100007
Abstract: studies of spatial distribution of weeds are important in the agronomic and environmental context. the objective of this research was to describe the spatial distribution of weeds in two soil management systems. this study was accomplished in a distroferric red latosol (oxisol), located in campo mour?o, parana state, brazil, in no-tillage (nt) and conventional tillage of soil (ct). a grid was established in coordinated x and y, with 128 sampling points. the studied variables were biomass of shoot weeds, density of weeds, commelina benghalensis density and bidens pilosa density. exploratory data analysis was used to evaluate distribution of variables as well as to adapt them for the spatial analysis. the spatial variability was studied using geostatistics by analysis of semivariograms, kriging interpolation and constructions of maps. the ranges of biomass and density of bidens pilosa, were larger in nt than in the ct. for plant density range was larger in the pc. the spatial distribution described by geostatistics allowed weed mapping and its site specific management and the establishment of criteria for future experiments.
Há algo novo a se dizer sobre as rela??es raciais no Brasil contemporaneo?

Abstract: the law n. 10.639-2003 and it's directives approval, which had changed the law of directives and basis for brazilian education, assumes a set of substantial changes that has begun to alter the educational public policies in the country. the obligatoriness of ethnic-racial education, as well as afro-brazilian and african historical and cultural studies in basic education, is a result of the acknowledgement of both racial discrimination and racism as constitutive elements of our social development, as it allows unveiling the african contributions to our brazilian identity far beyond slavery. the black identity, as a product of cultural multiplicity's political erasure of the people who landed in the country, give place to the prefix afro as a new identification and recreation possibility for the brazilians who descend from the africans. this identity can be analyzed trough the diaspora concept.
Efeito das intera??es hiperconjugativas na constante de acoplamento 1J CH da hexametilenotetramina e do adamantano: estudo teórico e experimental

Química Nova , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-40422007000700035
Abstract: the objective of this work was to determine the influence of hyperconjugative interactions on the 1jch coupling constant for hexamethylenetetramine (1) and adamantane (2). for this end, theoretical and experimental 1jch were obtained and hyperconjugative interactions were investigated using nbo. it was observed, theoretically and experimentally, that 1jch in 1 is 20 hz larger than in 2, mainly due to the nn?s*c-h hyperconjugative interaction. this interaction occurs only in 1, with an energy of 9.30 kcal mol-1. it increases the s-character of the carbon atom in the c-h bond and the occupancy of the s*c-h orbital in (1).

Abstract: The rapid prototyping biomodels manufacturing is a recent technology with great importance in oral and maxillofacial surgery. It provides a better surgical planning, decrease of anesthesia time and great functional and esthetic results. The aim of this experimental study was to evaluate the accuracy of rapid prototyping biomodels built by three-dimensional printing (3DP) technique, since this is one of the least expensive methods available. Linear measurements of standardized bone defects and anatomic distances were compared using a digital caliper of high precision in nine dry mandibles (gold standard) and their respective biomodels. The Bland-Altman test was used for statistical analysis (5% level of significance). The results showed strong concordance between the dry mandibles and their respective biomodels, with discrepancies smaller than 2 mmin most cases (97.4%). We can conclude that the biomodels built by 3DP technique can be used for surgical planning in Dentistry.
