Regenerated rat skeletal muscle after periodic contusions

Abstract: in the present study we evaluated the morphological aspect and changes in the area and incidence of muscle fiber types of long-term regenerated rat tibialis anterior (ta) muscle previously submitted to periodic contusions. animals received eight consecutive traumas: one trauma per week, for eight weeks, and were evaluated one (n = 8) and four (n = 9) months after the last contusion. serial cross-sections were evaluated by toluidine blue staining, acid phosphatase and myosin atpase reactions. the weight of injured muscles was decreased compared to the contralateral intact one (one month: 0.77 ± 0.15 vs 0.91 ± 0.09 g, p = 0.03; four months: 0.79 ± 0.14 vs 1.02 ± 0.07 g, p = 0.0007, respectively) and showed abundant presence of split fibers and fibers with centralized nuclei, mainly in the deep portion. damaged muscles presented a higher incidence of undifferentiated fibers when compared to the intact one (one month: 3.4 ± 2.1 vs 0.5 ± 0.3%, p = 0.006; four months: 2.3 ± 1.6 vs 0.3 ± 0.3%, p = 0.007, respectively). injured ta evaluated one month later showed a decreased area of muscle fibers when compared to the intact one (p = 0.003). thus, we conclude that: a) muscle fibers were damaged mainly in the deep portion, probably because they were compressed against the tibia; b) periodic contusions in the ta muscle did not change the percentage of type i and ii muscle fibers; c) periodically injured ta muscles took four months to reach a muscle fiber area similar to that of the intact muscle.

Abstract: the instability of the paraelectric phase in ferroelectrics, driven by thermal fluctuations, is discussed on the basis of the quantum three-dimensional spin-1/2 transverse-field ising model (tim) within the framework of the green function method. the two-step critical dynamics of the tim is analyzed through the ferroelectric order-parameter fluctuation spectra observed above the critical temperature tc. the spectra profiles are given near tc in explicit form. the slow-down exponents dc = and ds = are deduced for the slow and fast parts of structural relaxation and are compared with those known from the literature.
The method of corrosion crack opening evaluation for the reinforced concrete structures technical state assessment

Abstract: The problem of the reinforced concrete structures technical state assessment assumes the improvement of techniques of their nondestructive control. Therefore, the technique based on criterion of integral values of the crack opening width is proposed.This criterion can serve as independent parameter of corrosion damage. Average value of crack width allows estimating thickness of corrosion products for determination residual bond between concrete and reinforcement.The comparative analysis with a standard technique of measurement is carried out. Shortcomings of maximum crack width as a parameter of serviceability are shown. The integrated technique does possible correction, taking into account nonlinearity of a crack, size of concrete layer, excludes manifestation of the methodical and subjective errors peculiar to a standard technique of measurement.

Abstract: This paper gives an account of ten new meliolaceous fungi, namely, Asteridiella justiciae, Meliola ardisiicola, M. cannonicola, M. chassaliicola, M. desmodii-velutini, M. erythroxylicola, M. urariae, M. pseudarthriae, M. strychnigena and M. tylophorae-indicae. All these species are described and illustrated in detail.

Abstract: The original and comprehensive research of Yakov Ilich Frenkel in physics and physical chemistry of condensed states, nuclear physics, electrodynamics, science of sintering has significantly contributed to the development of modern scientific knowledge and his scientific ideas are still an inspiration to many scientists. Having in mind the wealth of scientific ideas he had in the research of electroconductivity in metals, crystal structure imperfections and phase transitions and in founding the science of sintering, the contribution of individual theories of Frenkel of significance to materials science are presented in this paper.

Electrochemical Photovoltaic Detector With Pseudo-Binary Hgxcd1-Xte Thin Film Photoelectrodes

Abstract: :Electrochemical photo-voltaic detector with REDOX reactions occurring at the two electrodes was designed, fabricated and characterized through its characteristic properties. The photosensitive material used was HgxCd1-xTe (0 ? x ? 0.5) and sodium polysulphide electrolyte was used as a medium of charge transport from one electrode to another. The various designing and processing parameters were optimized to yield quality photo electrode material and the photo-voltaic detector cells were fabricated for each of these electrodes. The photo-voltaic detector performance was then tested through its current-voltage, capacitance-voltage, power output, spectral and photo response studies. The quantum conversion efficiency ?% and fill factor ff % are found to be enhanced from 0.24% to 0.55% and 30% to 49% respectively, when the composition parameter varied from zero to 0.1. The other performance parameters were also evaluated from their characteristic studies and in turn their variations are correlated with electrode materials composition. A best electrode composition is searched out from these studies.

Abstract: this paper presents a résumé of the events being poet: lupe corim, 40 years afterwards, promoted by instituto de estudos brasileiros of universidade de s?o paulo (ieb-usp) in march 2010. beyond a seminar about the life and work of the teacher and poetess, the events had included an exposition of her private records' pieces, recently incorporated into the archives of the ieb; and a recital that had presented the première of songs recently composed by almeida prado on some lupe cotrim's poems.
