Guimar?es, V.A.;Hein, L.R.O.;Zangrandi Filho, J.;
Materials Research , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14392001000300011
Abstract: fracture toughness testing becomes a very important parameter for mechanical design and maintenance of parts and structures. this work presents the design and construction of a machine device to perform the pre-crack nucleation on se(b) specimens for fracture toughness testing. employing this device, it is possible to test materials for kic, ctod and jic in a conventional tensile test equipment, assisted by a data acquisition system. the device is based on the concept of loading from an eccentric mechanism, controlling the displacement by means of a marking ring. the main contribution of this work is the low cost technology offered for laboratories, without high priced servo-hydraulic testing machines, giving them autonomy for the execution of fracture toughness tests. the experimental results satisfied the expectation about crack nucleation on se(b) and applied loading control.

Sistema de Gestión de la Calidad en el Apoyo a la Implementación de Estrategias de Producción Ajustada
Cruz,V.A.;
Información tecnológica , 2004, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-07642004000600010
Abstract: a study on quality management systems to determine eventual benefits and implications related to the implementation of lean manufacturing has been done. the iso 9000 quality management standard was used to support the implementation process of a lean manufacturing system. results showed a lack of capacity to disseminate local improvements to other parts of the production system. the iso 9000 standards allowed the identification of critical processes and the integrated implementation of sub-systems related to each process. the impact of these results allowed the detection of weaknesses to decide eventual modifications in some processes. from the results obtained, one can conclude that a quality management system environment enhances a better comprehension in modelling and implementing a lean manufacturing system.

Abstract: we investigate the solution of a mean-field-hydrodynamic equation using variational approximation with the aim of study the formation of fundamental gap solitons in a bose gas and in a degenerate fermi gas when trapped by one transversal potential and a single-periodic one-dimensional optical lattice. by variational approximation we study the possibility that the effective nonlinearity or interaction coefficient acting in combination with the potential of the optical lattice which allows the appearance of solitons in different dimensions presenting a peculiar behavior in function of the chemical potential.
Indigenous Poultry Management Practices in Zone C Area of Benue State Agricultural Development Project, Nigeria
V.A. Okwoche
The Social Sciences , 2013, DOI: 10.3923/sscience.2013.13.18
Abstract: This study examines the indigenous poultry management practices in Zone C Area of Benue State Agricultural Development Project. About 200 respondents were interviewed. About 66% of the respondents indicated that extensive methods of management were adopted. The study indicated that apart from age and farming experience, all other socio-economic characteristics were not related to ethno-veterinary practices. The findings suggested that formal educational level, annual income, herd size and contact with extension may not be important influencing factors. Majority of the respondents used ethno-veterinary practices on their indigenous local breeds. It is recommended that there is no need to revolutionise the husbandry practices or to introduce day old hyped chicks or buy costly feed. What is critical, however, is the provision of affordable feed and animal health services for timely vaccination of chicks to prevent and control disease as the local farmers stick to their indigenous breeds.

Live Weight Related Changes in the Sperm Production Capacity of White Fulani (Bos indicus) Cattle I: Testicular Histomorphometry
V.A. Togun
Pakistan Journal of Biological Sciences , 2009,
Abstract: The study investigated live weight related changes in testicular histomorphmery of White Fulani (WF) bulls of live weight range 171-320 kg under the traditional extensive system of management in Ibadan, Nigeria. Fifty-two WF bulls were randomly selected from local Fulani herds around Ibadan and placed in Giant Star grass paddocks with water available free choice for one week prior to slaughter. Morhpometric measurements were taken on the scrotum before and on the testes immediately after slaughter. Histometric measurements were taken on the testicular parenchyma tissue after histological processes. From their weight at slaughter, the bulls were grouped into four live weight groups of 171-200, 201-230, 231-260 and 261-320 kg for group I, II, III and IV, respectively. Mean values of group IV bulls were significantly (p<0.05) higher in all scrotal and testicular morphometric measurements than all other groups, which did not differ significantly (p>0.05) from one another. The gonadal index (relative weight of testes to live weight) did not differ (p>0.05) between groups except that group IV value was significantly (p<0.05) higher than all other groups. The relative proportion of paired epididymal weight to live weight did not differ between groups, while the relative proportion of tunica albuginea to the testes weight decreased insignificantly from group I to IV. The seminiferous tubule diameter did not significantly (p>0.05) differ between groups, while the stages in the cycle of the seminiferous epithelium also appeared stable between the different live weight groups. The volume proportion of the lumen in the semiferuos epithelium was significantly higher in group I bulls than group IV bulls while none of the testicular elements differed significantly (p>0.05) between groups in volume proportions. However, absolute weights of all the testicular elements were significantly higher in the group IV bulls than all the other groups, which did not differ significantly (p>0.05) from one another. It was concluded that the live weight range 171-320 kg corresponds to a physiologically stable state in White Fulani bulls extensively managed in Ibadan, a humid tropical environment in Nigeria.

Building systems technical condition assessment based on the multilevel probabilistic analysis (rus)
Sokolov V.A.
Magazine of Civil Engineering , 2011,
Abstract: Methods based on the stochastic apparatus technical diagnostics are put forward to solve problems concerning determination of the structural elements technical condition. Diagnosis is performed using probabilistic methods of recognition of technical conditions of complex technical systems. The diagnosis is conducted with the help of probabilistic methods of the complex engineering systems condition recognition based on the Bayesian analysis. The aforementioned approach and information theory methods are applied to run the multilevel diagnostics of elements and systems of floor slabs in old urban buildings. Multilevel diagnostics was done in the concepts of information entropy. During the analysis of the results of forward and reverse traces on the hierarchical diagnostics structure the next conclusion was made. The forward trace allows to determine the technical condition and category for the each element of each level in the hierarchical structure and the reverse trace gives a possibility to evaluate the contribution of each element condition to the information about the whole building condition. The last point can be an argumentative basis for the account of physical depreciation of building structures.
Diagnostics of technical state of building structures using methods of fuzzy-set theory
V.A. Sokolov
Magazine of Civil Engineering , 2010,
Abstract: This is a continuation of articles series about methods of technical diagnostics. On basis of diagnostic matrix from first article the technical state estimation for a beam from old city building is conducted. In this case the fuzzy-set theory is used for estimation of technical state.
