Abstract: this work was carried out on. "mandi" (pimelodus danas bloch) a specie of catfish from piracicaba river, in s?o paulo state, brazil, with the purpose of knowing its chemical composition and some informations of its nutritional value. the fishes picked out in june and july, showed the following composition of the edible part: moisture 72.02 g/100 g, protein 17.93 g/100 g, lipids 9.00 g/100 g, ash 1.12 g/100 g, calcium 94.13 mg/100 g, total phosphorus 550.15 mg/100 g, inorganic phosphorus 262.93 mg/100 g, iron 7.41 mg/100 g, sodium chloride 0.30 g/100 g, vitamin a 120.10 u.i./g lipids and ph 6.80. it was showed that each 100 g of the fish flesh can supply about 12% of total phosphorus, 69% of iron, 22% of vitamin a and 28% of the caloric daily needs.

Abstract: this work was carried out on "mandi" (pimelodus darias bloch) a specie of catfish from piracicaba river in s?o paulo state, brazil, with the purpose of knowing the influence of the fishing season on moisture, protein, lipids and ash contents of fish flesh, to select the best time to make preserves. the edible part of "mandi" was analysed monthly during a year and showed the following data: moisture 65.15 g/100 g, protein 17.92 g/100 g, lipids 15.51 g/100 g and ash 1.34 g/100 g. the lipids data permitted to classify "mandi" as a fatty fish and june and july were the elected months to pick out fishes for processing.

Abstract: alumina channeled beads and rough surface membranes prepared from aqueous sols of fibrillar pseudoboehmite are able to immobilize yeasts for ethanol fermentation of sugar solutions. this paper describes comparative results of assays carried out with yeasts immobilized onto alpha-alumina beads and membranes prepared under two different conditions of processing and firing. the fermentation tests evaluated by the decrease of fermentable sugars, referred as brix degrees per hour, indicated that the yeasts immobilized on beads had similar performance, probably because their surfaces, even being morphologically different, presented the same value of open porosity. one type of membrane (asymmetrical; precursor: pseudoboehmite; firing temperature 1,150oc; crystal structure; alpha-alumina) had better performance than the other type (asymmetrical; precursor: fibrillar pseudoboehmite plus aluminum hydroxiacetate mixture; 1,150oc; alpha-alumina) because the yeast cells entered into their porous interior through the surface slits, were immobilized and their growth was easier than on the external surface.

Abstract: While Internet has been achieving its omnipresence worldwide and offering to companies the opportunity of trading in a “no-borders” market, global brands, and those aspiring to become global, face the challenge of dealing with significant cultural differences. Emergent economies account for one of the greatest opportunities for global brands interested in extending their business overseas through digital channels. Among these economies, Brazil has been receiving special focus lately as a promising consumer market. Working from a theoretical point of view through literature and simultaneously examining companies as potential paradigms, this study aims to provide suggestions for global brands interested in targeting the Brazilian market through effective cross-cultural digital branding strategies. The results are valuable insights about how to establish better communication with Brazilian consumers and also offer some guidance to help marketers to keep brands desired and admired in Brazil. It was mainly concluded that global brands should find out the right balance between a standardized and an adapted cultural approach in order to establish a trust-worthy proximity with Brazilian consumers on the digital environment.

Abstract:

In this study, we used potentiometric titration to investigate the interaction of the saprophytic fungus Trametes villosa in an aqueous environment. The study of this biological complex system allowed us to observe the evolution of out-ofequilibrium hydrogen ion potential states after systematic perturbations. The responses of the complex system to perturbations were interpreted from relations that provided qualitative response patterns for mycelium in agreement with their basic structural and organizational characteristics. We consider this to be a transdisciplinary example of the behavior of general systems with thermodynamic properties of great ecological relevance, being specifically related to the negentropic properties of heterogeneous systems.

Abstract: Many researchers have studied the factors that can contribute to a loving relationship remaining stable and having a good quality for both partners. Two of the most worrying concerns that people have in regard to love relationships are the jealousy and infidelity. The purpose of this study was to verify whether there is relationship between these two phenomena. In this study, 45 heterosexual couples with an average age of 24.6 years participated, who were recruited through an ad placed on the site of a public university located in the city of Sao Paulo. To assess the degrees of jealousy of the participants, “Escala de ciúme romantico—ECR” was used. To evaluate the infidelity of the participants, the “Inventário de comportamentos relacionados à infidelidade” created specifically for this work was used. The results indicated that: 1) though it was so low, the jealousy is an agent of self-fulfilling prophecy for infidelity (r = 0.25, 90 df, p < 0.05); and 2) there is an association for the infidelity of each partner related to the infidelity of the other partner (r = 0.36, df 45, p < 0.05). These results indicate, therefore, that there is a direct relationship between the jealousy and infidelity.

Abstract: This text presents an analytical expression to calculate the maximum tension, at the bottom side of a concrete slab on ground, due to lift truck wheel loads. The result of the analytical expression is in close agreement with the result of a design chart by the Portland Cement Association and with the result of a finite element analysis. The analytical expression is able to show the relationships among the design variables and it can be used for the thickness design of concrete floors for factories and warehouses. The expression applies only to unreinforced concrete slabs on ground.

Abstract: Cable roof structures?have?only become widespread in large span structures in the latter part of the twentieth century. However,?they?still represent a relatively new form of roof construction, especially as in the present case of a small span innovative structural solution. The contribution of this text to the structural engineering community lies in the increased interest in building simple cable roof structures. Since its completion in September 1996, this small cable roof structure has been recognized as an interesting architectural and structural example. The text describes aspects of the design and construction of a small cable roof that was designed as a roof for an open-air theater stage for the city of Sao Jose do Rio Pardo, Sao Paulo, Brazil. A cable network, in the shape of a hyperbolic paraboloid surface, is anchored in a reinforced concrete edge ring. The projection of the ring’s axis onto the ground plane is an ellipse. Workers with specialized training were employed in the various stages of the construction, which was completed in September 1996.
