Protein Globule Formation in the Liver Graft during Cold Preservation for Liver Transplantation: Its Clinical and Pathological Significance  [PDF]

In liver transplantation, liver graft ischemia-reperfusion injury occurs mainly due to cold preservation and warm reperfusion. In this research, we study the affection of plasma protein of the donor on liver graft during cold preservation and warm reperfusion. In this study, 34 liver transplantations were performed from 2007 to 2010, and the clinical data were collected retrospectively from the Dongfang Hospital database. 34 specimens were harvested from 34 liver grafts when graft trimming as Group A and 34 specimens harvested from the same 34 liver grafts during liver transplantation surgery but before abdominal closure as B group. All liver tissue specimens were fixed with 40 g/L neutral formalin, embedded in paraffin. Light microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS) stain and immunohistochemical stain of IgG, IgM, IgA, C3d, C4d, Fib, C1q, and CD61 were used. In this study, we found that eosinophilic bodies emerged in liver lobes during liver transplantation which had not been reported previously in the literature. 1) Protein globules were found exclusively in liver graft specimens. The globules were round or oval with sharp edges, measured approximately 1.59 to 9.41 μm in diameter, and were scattered in the liver sinusoids or space of Disse or hepatocyte cytoplasm, were stained with IgG, IgM, IgA, Fib, C3d by immunohistochemical staining; 2) There was no statistical significant difference of protein globules number between A group and B group (P > 0.05); 3) IRI score of B group was not correlated with protein globules number (P > 0.05). Protein globules contain plasma composition, and may form during cold preservation.

A Comparison between Numerical Simulations of Forced Local Hadley (Anti-Hadley) Circulation in East Asian and Indian Monsoon Regions

Abstract: Two numerical simulations of forced local Hadley circulation are carried out based on a linear diagnostic equation to provide an insight into the mechanisms of monsoon evolution in different monsoon regions. One simulation is for the zonal mean Hadley circulation over East Asia (from95oE to 122.5oE), another over India (from 70oE to 85oE).With the NCEP / NCAR re-analysis data re-processed by Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing, the former simulation displays a dominant anti-Hadley circulation pattern over East Asia at 1200 UTC May 1, 1994. The simulated circulation pattern is consistent well enough with the circulation pattern plotted directly from the data for lack of the radiation information at each level. Although the simulation over India is not as good as that over East Asia, a dominant Hadley circulation pattern is obvious as data show. Further ana-lysis shows that the defective simulation over India is due to the presence of statically unstable condition at some grid points in the lower troposphere. This circumstance slightly violates the hydrodynamic stability cri-terion required by the elliptic diagnostic equation for the forced circulation.Since the simulations are reliable enough compared with the given data, the linear equation facilitates a systematic assessment of relative importance of each internally forcing process. The assessment shows that among the internal processes, the horizontal temperature advections account obviously for the Hadley (anti-Hadley) circulation over India (East Asia) at 1200 UTC May 1, 1994 in addition to the process associ-ated with the latent heat releasing. The calculation of latent heat energy is a little bit unreliable due to the unclear cloud physics in the convection processes and the less accurate humidity data. These preliminary results are consistent with the results of previous studies which show that the feature of the seasonal warming in the upper troposphere and the corresponding processes are part of key processes closely related to the evolution of the summer monsoon over East Asia and India.

Abstract: This paper investigates the nonlinear prediction of monthly rainfall time series which consists of phase space con-tinuation of one-dimensional sequence, followed by least-square determination of the coefficients for the terms of the time-lag differential equation model and then fitting of the prognostic expression is made to 1951-1980 monthly rainfall datasets from Changsha station Results show that the model is likely to describe the nonlinearity of the an-nual cycle of precipitation on a monthly basis and to provide a basis for flood prevention and drought combating for the wet season.

Abstract: Nitrogen is an essential element for plant growth and yield. Improving Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) of crops could potentially reduce the application of chemical fertilizer and alleviate environmental damage. To identify new NUE genes is therefore an important task in molecular breeding. Macroautophagy (autophagy) is an intracellular process in which damaged or obsolete cytoplasmic components are encapsulated in double membraned vesicles termed autophagosomes, then delivered to the vacuole for degradation and nutrient recycling. One of the core components of autophagosome formation, ATG8, has been shown to directly mediate autophagosome expansion, and the transcript of which is highly inducible upon starvation. Therefore, we postulated that certain homologs of Saccharomyces cerevisiae ATG8 (ScATG8) from crop species could have potential for NUE crop breeding. A soybean (Glycine max, cv. Zhonghuang-13) ATG8, GmATG8c, was selected from the 11 family members based on transcript analysis upon nitrogen deprivation. GmATG8c could partially complement the yeast atg8 mutant. Constitutive expression of GmATG8c in soybean callus cells not only enhanced nitrogen starvation tolerance of the cells but accelerated the growth of the calli. Transgenic Arabidopsis over-expressing GmATG8c performed better under extended nitrogen and carbon starvation conditions. Meanwhile, under optimum growth conditions, the transgenic plants grew faster, bolted earlier, produced larger primary and axillary inflorescences, eventually produced more seeds than the wild-type. In average, the yield was improved by 12.9%. We conclude that GmATG8c may serve as an excellent candidate for breeding crops with enhanced NUE and better yield.

Abstract: Medium means “middle” originally. When it is used as an academic term in communication theory, it would be a bridge of information exchange between two agents. The more advanced medium is, the richer amount of information it can carry. And then the communicating way changes. The way of thinking changes, too. This paper firstly analyzed the development of communication process and the corresponding changes in media, and then discussed the major impact on education re- form in different media. Each of the change will affect the media choice of teaching strategies and teaching effectiveness. Especially when the information media are used in education, much more information changing happens than ever before. People can learn with auditory, vision, tactus, olfaction, and so on. “Communication” became one of the most important keywords in the study sup- ported by information technology.

The paper was based on the definition of time-rate, and founded the general transformation between reference systems that background had different standard of time, and the self-consistent theoretical system has been formed to promote the classical electrodynamics. According to the principle, more discussion about the relationship between structure of time-rate in space and physical properties in its own area (gravity, centrifugal force, acceleration system) was presented. In view of the above, the paper expounded the role of macro mechanism of gravity and inertia force, and unified them finally. The possibility of tremendous instantaneous acceleration has been put forward.
Serum CYFRA21-1 is Correlated with the Efficacy of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor-tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Patients Harboring EGFR Mutations

Abstract: Background and objective Epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) are the standard first-line treatment regimen for EGFR mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. However, the efficacy of EGFR-TKIs widely varies. The aim of this study is to determine whether the pretreatment serum cytokeratin-19 fragments (CYFRA21-1) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) are associated with the efficacy of EGFR-TKIs in EGFR-mutated NSCLC patients. Methods We retrospectively enrolled 194 NSCLC patients harboring EGFR mutations who received EGFR-TKIs. Clinical characteristics were collected, and the relation between the efficacy of EGFR-TKIs and pretreatment serum CYFRA21-1 and CEA was analyzed. Results In all cases, progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with high CYFRA21-1 level was significantly shorter than PFS in patients with normal CYFRA21-1 (7.0 vs 11.9 months, P<0.001). Overall survival (OS) in patients with high CYFRA21-1 was significantly shorter than in the normal-CYFRA21-1 group (12.6 vs 28.0 months, P<0.001). In adenocarcinoma patients, PFS in the high-CYFRA21-1 level group was significantly shorter than in patients with normal CYFRA21-1 (7.0 vs 12.0 months, P<0.001). OS in patients with high CYFRA21-1 was significantly shorter than that in the normal-CYFRA21-1 group (13.1 vs 28.1 months, P<0.001). Among squamous carcinoma patients, CYFRA21-1 level did not affect survival. No significant difference in PFS and OS was observed between patients with high CEA and patients with normal CEA. Conclusion EGFR-mutated patients with high CYFRA21-1 had significantly shorter PFS and OS than patients with normal CYFRA21-1 after receiving EGFR-TKIs. Pretreatment serum CYFR21-1 level was a predictive marker of EGFR-TKI treatment in EGFR-mutated NSCLC patients.
