Latin american journal of aquatic research , 2009,
Abstract: the occurrence of golden crabs (chaceon fenneri) off the northern coast of brazil was first reported in 2001. since then, a few companies and boats have exploited this resource. in the state of ceará, one company has been fishing for these crabs with a single boat since 2003. the production and fishing effort of this company indicated a decrease in the number of trips and total catches per year. data collected on one trip in 2006 showed that the cpue was highest at over 650 m depth. as registered for other geryonid crabs, c. fenneri was segregated by sex along the northern slope of brazil. male crabs were significantly larger than females, presenting an isometric relationship between carapace width and length and an allometric relationship between carapace width and body weight.

Abstract: the mangrove vegetation along the margins of estuaries is an important habitat for fish, serving as feeding, shelter and nursery zones. the present work describes the fish fauna associated to mangrove roots at the pacoti river estuary. a total of ten visual censuses of 90 minutes each were conducted, yielding the number of 671 fish counted, with an average of 0.74 counts/minute. the fishes were identified pertaining to 22 species from 18 different families. all the studied species are originally marine, although the samples were mainly carried out during the rainy season. gerreidae and lutjanidae were the more representative families. the species lutjanus alexandrei, lutjanus jocu and bathygobius soporator were present in all censuses and the first two were also the most abundant, with 48 and 17% of the total counts, respectively. taking into account size estimations of the fish, it was verified that mangrove roots are inhabited mainly by juveniles of both species, indicating the use of this habitat as a nursery area. however, in the least complex sampling site, specimens of genus lutjanus were sought in higher quantities, comprinsing all size classes, thus suggesting the abundance of roots in pacoti river might not influence the abundance of sheltered fishes. another important observation is that almost 70% of the species present in the mangrove roots are typical of reef habitats, indicating the existence of strong connections between these two ecosystems. the results emphasize the importance of this habitat for ichthyofauna conservation to coastal areas. in addition, studies regarding to fish recruitment, reproductive and trophic patterns are needed, especially to those two main important species described herein.

Pisces, Ophidiiformes, Ophidiidae, Brotula barbata (Bloch & Schneider, 1801): First record off Ceará,northeastern Brazil
Paiva, C. C.,Osório, F. M.,Jucá-Queiroz, B.,Tito Monteiro da Cruz Lotufo
Check List , 2010,
Abstract: Brotula barbata is recorded for the first time from Ceará, northeastern Brazil. The species was previouslyknown in the western Atlantic from North Carolina to southeastern Brazil, but there are some gaps between these regions.A single specimen was collected from a traditional line fishing fleet operating in the Mucuripe Sea, Ceará, during August2007. We noticed a meristic difference between the specimen examined and the information from the literature. Howeverthis difference did not make the identification difficult. The new record of B. barbata fills geographic distribution gaps ofthis species in the western Atlantic.

Biotemas , 2010,
Abstract: The composition of Brachyura inhabiting natural hard substrata at Coqueiro Beach, on the coast of Luís Correia (Piauí), is presented. A total of 20 species of Brachyura were recorded, eight of which were not previously registered for the state: Epialtus bituberculatus H. Milne Edwards, 1834; Acantholobulus schmitti (Rathbun, 1930); Pachygrapsus transversus (Gibbes, 1850); Panopeus austrobesus Williams, 1983; Panopeus occidentalis Saussure, 1857; Pilumnus dasypodus Kingsley, 1879; Pilumnus spinosissimus Rathbun, 1898; and Planes cyaneus Dana, 1851. The Indo-Pacifi c species Charybdis hellerii (Milne Edwards, 1867) was also identified. The most diverse family was Xanthidae with nine species of crabs, followed by Grapsidae (3), Portunidae (4), Majidae with two species, and Calappidae and Ocypodidae with a single species each.

The Difference of the Impact of Elective Cholecystectomy Surgery in the Immune Response  [PDF]
Rosamaria Rodrigues Gomes, Manoel Messias Lima Neto, Ayrton Silva Alves, Cristiane Monteiro da Cruz
Surgical Science (SS) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ss.2018.98029
Abstract: Introduction: The inflammatory response is essential to initiate the healing process, and in this response there is an increase in white blood cells and pro-inflammatory compounds. Creactive proteins (CRP), together with the blood leukocyte count, have been used to study the immune response. Due to the risk of infection and exacerbated inflammatory response of the patients undergoing surgical procedure, it is relevant to investigate the pre and postoperative inflammatory response of those individuals. Objective: To determine the difference in the impact of elective cholecystectomy surgery on the patient’s immune response. Methods: The present study was cross-sectional, where a group included patients who underwent elective cholecystectomy procedure. Patients who were pregnant, under 18 years, of indigenous communities or with other conditions that depress the immune system, as well as those on immunosuppressive medications, were excluded. Results: CRP and leukocyte counts indicated a mean increase of 5.97-fold (95% CI 3.76 to 8.34, SD 6.98) and 1.97-fold (95% CI 1.71 to 2.24, SD 1.97) respectively, both being evaluated before and after surgery. Discussion: In the present study, to avoid a possible methodological bias, it was chosen to evaluate the patients submitted to videolaparoscopic cholecystectomy only and the hypothesis was confirmed that there is an increase in CRP and leukocyte count as a response to surgical trauma. Conclusion: There was an elevation of the inflammatory markers in patients submitted to surgical trauma when comparing the exams collected in the preoperative period and after the surgical aggression.
