Life-cycle Environmental Friendly Construction of A Large Scale Project: A Case Study

Abstract: Environmental friendly construction is one of the key tasks for the construction professionals. Large projects, which have great environmental and social impact, should act as the models of environmental friendly construction. In this paper, the authors have concluded some measures which are taken to promote positive impact of the World Expo Shanghai 2010 on environment and human health. The findings of this case study can be referred by construction professionals when conduction large scale projects.

Abstract: Daily maximum/minimum temperatures and relative humidity records from 510 stations in China for the period 1960--2008 were used to investigate geographical patterns and temporal variations of heatwave (HW) events. Dry and wet HW events were compared by different definitions. Regionally, both dry and wet HW events are commonly located in southeastern China in the monsoon area, with neither type occurring in the northeast part of Northeast China and Southwest China, while the north-northwest region of the country experiences dry HW events and a few wet HW events. In the southeast of the country, site dry HW events occurred from April to September and mostly in June, while site wet HW events occurred from April to October and mostly in September. In total, 163 regional wet HW events were identified. The ten longest regional wet HW events lasted for more than 20 days, while the mean duration for 163 events was about 11 days. For the top ten events, six occurred after the 1990s, compared with four before this time. Global surface warming was clear since 1979, but the frequency and severity of regional wet HW events were relatively low in the 1980s, increasing remarkably since the 1990s. Possible reasons for this might be the strong interdecadal and interannual variations in regional atmospheric circulations, as well as water transport related directly to temperature contrasts in different regions, rather than global-mean temperature changes.
Rapid Photocatalytic Degradation of Methylene Blue under High Photon Flux UV Irradiation: Characteristics and Comparison with Routine Low Photon Flux

Abstract: This study examined the photocatalytic degradation efficiency under high UV photon flux (intensity normalized by photon energy) irradiation; the incident UV photon flux was 1.71×10?6?3.13×10?6 einstein cm?2 s?1 made by a super high-intensity UV apparatus. A comparative study between high photon flux photocatalytic process and routine low photon flux photocatalytic process for methylene blue degradation has been made in aqueous solution. The experimental results showed that under the best conditions of high UV photocatalytic reaction 99% decolorization and 95% TOC removal of 20 mg L−1 methylene blue could be achieved in 30 s and 120 s of UV irradiation time, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, photocatalytic decolorization and photocatalytic degradation of dyes in such a short time has not been reported. Aiming at the low photonic efficiency in high photon flux photocatalytic process, we found that reducing the density of excited electron-hole appropriately could improve initial apparent photonic efficiency effectively. The TOC experiments under high UV photon flux showed a faster mineralization rate and a different mineralization process compared to that under low UV photon flux.

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Yiqing Shuangjie Capsule and Tablet in treating acute upper respiratory tract infection with wind-warm syndrome.Methods: The multiple center, double-blinded, double-dummy and randomized controlled method was conducted. Three hundred and sixty patients were randomly divided into the treatment group A (n=120, treated with Yiqing Shuangjie Capsule and Chaihuang analogues), treatment group B (n=120, treated with Yiqing Shuangjie Tablet and Chaihuang analogues) and the control group (n=120, treated with Chaihuang Tablet and Yiqing Shuangjie Capsule analogues). Every drug was administered 3 pills each time. Patients in the three groups were all treated for 5 days and three times daily. The accumulated scores of syndrome, clinical symptoms, adverse effect and body temperature were recorded before and after the treatment. The safety indexes, such as routine tests of blood, urine and stool, hepatic and renal function tests and electrocardiogram (ECG) were taken before and after the treatment.Results: Three cases were excluded and eighteen cases lost to follow-up. There were 343 patients who entered to the intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis and 339 patients fitted in the per-protocol population set (PPS) analysis. After treatment, the therapeutic effects of respiratory tract infection were calculated by ITT and PPS analysis respectively. The rates of total obvious effect were 84.96% and 87.27% respectively in the treatment group A, and the total response rates were 96.46% and 97.27% respectively. The rates of total obvious effect were 85.47% and 86.20% respectively in the treatment group B, and the total response rates were 97.45% and 97.41% respectively. In the control group, the rates of total obvious effect both were 72.57%, and the total response rates both were 99.12%. There was significant difference among the three groups (P<0.05). The effects of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome were also detected by ITT and PPS analysis respectively. In the treatment group A, the total obvious effect rates were 84.07% and 85.46% respectively, and the total response rates were 96.46% and 97.27% respectively. In the treatment group B, the rates of total obvious effect were 88.89% and 89.65% respectively, and the total response rates were 97.44% and 97.41% respectively. In the control group, the rates of total obvious effect both were 72.57%, and total response rates both were 99.12%. There was also statistical significant difference among the three groups (P<0.05). Abstract: The monitoring and warning of urban rail transit is the core of operation management, and the breadth and depth of the monitoring range directly affect the quality of urban rail transit operation. For the current domestic monitoring system, most of the critical equipments and technologies are introduced from abroad; it is diseconomy, and also causes hidden danger. Realizing the localization of monitoring and early warning system is imperative. Based on the analysis of the present situation of urban rail transit operation safety at home and abroad, the paper proposes to use integrated technology to design basic framework of monitoring and warning system of urban rail train, and puts forward the critical technologies to realize the system. Compared with the existing monitoring system, the integrated monitoring system has the characteristics of wide monitoring range, clear division of labor, centralized management, coordination and integration operation and intelligent management, and embodies the concept of people-oriented. It has scientific significance for future construction of domestic Integrated Monitoring and Early Warning System (IMEWS) of urban rail transit.
A Facile and Generic Strategy to Synthesize Large-Scale Carbon Nanotubes

Abstract: An easy method to prepare carbon nanotubes (CNTs) has been demonstrated using a two-step refluxing and calcination process. First, a readily available inorganic salt, Ni(NO3)2?6H2O, used as the catalyst precursor was dissolved in the high-boiling-point organic solvents (alcohols or polyhydric alcohol) by refluxing at 190°C for 3 hours. After refluxing, NiO nanoparticles obtained in the solution act as the catalyst, and the organic refluxing solvents are used as the carbon source for the growth of CNTs. Second, CNTs are prepared by calcining the refluxed solution at 800°C in an N2 atmosphere for 3 hours. Results show that CNT growth possibly originates from carbon rings, with the nanotube walls growing perpendicular to these rings and forming a closed tube at the end.

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Dinggui Oil Capsule in treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) with stagnation of qi and cold. Methods: A prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical study was undertaken. One hundred and ninty-eight patients with IBS and syndrome of stagnation of qi and cold were randomly divided into high-dose Dinggui Oil group (DGO-H, 1.2 g, 3 times daily; n=66), low-dose Dinggui Oil group (DGO-L, 0.8 g, 3 times daily, n=66), and placebo group (placebo, 5.0 g, 3 times daily, n=66). Patients in the three groups were all treated for 2 weeks. Results: The total significant effective rates for IBS were 54.1%, 28.8% and 21.9% in the DGO-H, DGO-L, and placebo groups, and the total effective rates for the syndrome of stagnation of qi and cold were 54.1%, 25.8% and 23.4% in the three groups, respectively. Dinggui Oil Capsule showed a higher efficacy than the placebo in relieving the abdominal pain (P<0.01). No adverse effects were found in this trial. Conclusion: Dinggui Oil Capsule is effective and safe in relieving abdominal pain due to IBS with stagnation of qi and cold.
Impurity-induced configuration-transition in the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state of a d-wave superconductor

Abstract: The effect of impurities on Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) states in a layered superconductor with d-wave pairing symmetry is investigated using the tight-binding model and the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. At low temperature and a strong exchange field applied parallel to its conducting plane, a two-dimensional (2D) square lattice-like Larkin-Ovchinnikov state is more energetically favorable in a clean system. In the presence of impurities, the spatial profile of the order parameter remains as a 2D square lattice, and it is distorted only near the impurities when the impurity concentration is low. As impurity concentration is increased to a certain level, quasi-one-dimensional (1D) like FFLO state becomes more energetically favorable. Increasing temperature with fixed impurity concentration can also induce a 2D to 1D FFLO state transition. Within the present finite size calculation, we did not find the existence of the Fulde and Ferrell state before the system becoming normal as the impurity concentration is raised.
Subtle Effects of a nonmagnetic impurity on the sub-gap spectrum of a d-wave superconductor in the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state

Abstract: The effect of a nonmagnetic impurity on the subgap electronic spectrum in a d-wave superconductor in the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state is investigated. In a pure system, the spatial variation of the order parameter (OP) of the FFLO state forms a two-dimensional lattice, and there exist two types of sub-gap quasi-particle states. Our numerical iterations indicate that an OP saddle point, and slightly less so energetically, an OP extremum favor to be pinned at the impurity site. The local density of states and the fixed-bias map reveal the subtle effects of an impurity on the subgap energy spectrum, because the OP changes sign in both the (relative) momentum space and the real space.
