Abstract: Rice (Oryza sativa L.) presents a strategic role in social and economic levels. The aim of this study was to elucidate the presence of genetic variability for the genus Oryza, and the possibility of using genotypes with wild characteristics in rice breeding programs. The Oryza genus shows great genetic variability through wild genotypes available in the most varied environments around the world. The negative effects imposed by abiotic stresses such as flood, salinity, low temperatures, water deficiency and high temperatures may be minimized by the efficient identification of a genetic variability source from the Oryza genus. Among the main wild species presented by the Oryza genus, Oryza glumaepatula stands out being an active source of germplasm. The occurrence and preservation of genetic variability of Oryza genus is indispensable to obtain new rice genotypes, to guarantee food security for the human population, as well as to develop genotypes that adapt to climatic changes and natural adversities.

Revista Ceres , 2012,
Fruit flies are responsible for large losses in commercial orchards in Brazil, thus, it is important to know the predominant species in the region. The objective of this study was to study the occurrence of fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritoidae) and of their parasitoids in sweet orange (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck), 'Ponc ' mandarin (Citrus reticulate Blanco) and 'Rio' tangerine (Citrus deliciosa Ten), in Vi osa, Minas Gerais. The fruits were collected in April 2008. In the laboratory, the fruits were stored in plastic boxes containing moist sand in a controlled environment, to obtain pupae. Then, the pupae were counted, placed in glass bottles with fine sand and kept in an oven until adult emergence. Only one species of fruit fly (Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann, 1830) and one species of parasitoid (Doryctobracon brasiliensis Szépligeti) were identified. Among the varieties, the sweet orange 'Baianinha' showed the highest rate of infection and the lower were assigned to the 'Rio' tangerine and 'Ponc ' mandarin.

Acta Scientiarum : Agronomy , 2009,
The study evaluated the effect of three concentrations of auxin (0; 2,000 and 6,000 ppm) (indolbutiric acid - IBA) in inducingthe formation of adventitious roots in three types of stem stakes (herbaceous, woody and semi-woody) of wax mallow (Malvaviscus arboreus Cav.). The stakes were cut into a bezel angle, with approximately 12 cm each, treated with the fungicide Benlate and later with IBA. The assessments were made 30 days after planting, evaluating the appearance or absence of calluses, roots and shoots. Among the stakes, the woody ones showed the best regenerative capacity, reaching the maximum corpus callosum, rooting and shooting, regardless of IBA concentration. In the treatment with 2000 ppm IBA concentration, herbaceous and woody stakes showed the best results for rooting.
