Almeida, Katia Campos de;
Sba: Controle & Automa??o Sociedade Brasileira de Automatica , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-17592006000100007
Abstract: this paper analyzes critical cases of the optimal power flow (opf) problem, for which the opf algorithms usually fail to find a solution. the analysis is based on a parameterized opf model and on its optimality conditions, which are firstly derived considering the original opf formulation, with equality and inequality constraints, and subsequently extended to the formulation adopted by the primal-dual interior point methods. an equivalent of the brazilian southern region system is used to illustrate the critical cases.
Coelho, Maria Thereza ávila Dantas;Almeida Filho, Naomar de;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702002000200005
Abstract: this article analyzes health as a concept in some science-oriented discourses by representative authors of functional sociology, anthropology and epistemology, by focusing their notions of illness and procedures. in the field of sociology, the ideas of normality, labeling, and deviation from labeling patterns stand out. additionally, we present the main health models in north american health anthropology and evaluate the proposition of a new perspective that intends to overcome the duality between culture and society - the theory of signal, meaning and practice systems. we also analyze the canguilhemian difference between normality and health, as well as the notion of health as normative capacity. finally, we propose the distinctive concepts of primary, secondary and tertiary health as the first step of a theoretical construction that can guide health policies and social procedures based on a positive notion of health.
Coelho, Maria Thereza ávila Dantas;Almeida Filho, Naomar de;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2005000600020
Abstract: this study focuses on signs, meanings, and practices related to mental normality and health in a northern coastal area of bahia, brazil. it discusses local conceptions about the non-existence or exclusive existence of mental normality, as well as points of view concerning total mental normality. it identifies the prototypes of normality, like "normal", "almost normal", and "false normal", as signs for distinguishing mentally normal persons. the article discusses the underlying values and concepts in local personal classification of mental normality and proposes a structural health device consisting of moral, scientific, religious, environmental, and social elements. it analyzes local normalization and mental health promotion actions and the local system of signs, meanings, and practices of normality. finally, the article analyzes the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of health. all these goals are met by comparing local conceptions with the scientific literature on medical epistemology, psychoanalysis, sociological labeling theory, and medical anthropology.
Normal-patológico, saúde-doen?a: revisitando Canguilhem
Coelho, Maria Thereza ávila Dantas;Almeida Filho, Naomar de;
Physis: Revista de Saúde Coletiva , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-73311999000100002
Abstract: this paper evaluates the work of the french philosopher g. canguilhem on the relationship of the concepts of health, normality, disease and pathology. canguilhem's critique of the positivistic approach on the dichotomy normalpathological is considered unsatisfactory, because it reinforces the disjunction quantitative-qualitative. the distinction between normality and health, as well as the conception of health as normative capacity, is analysed. finally, his pioneer ethical reflection on genetic engineering and his distinction between private, subjective health and public health are presented, pointing to the need for epistemological researches on the health concept.
Campos, Maria Luiza de Almeida;
Ciência da Informa??o , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-19652004000100003
Abstract: theories and methodologies developed within the subject scope of both information science and computer science and designed to knowledge representation, present, in a somewhat comprehensive way, discussions on principles such as knowledge contexts, nature of concepts, relationships between concepts and systems of concepts. thus, in terms of theoretical framework, abstraction models used by the two fields are investigated. as to computer science, representational models related to the modeling of data bank systems are investigated, more specifically the object-oriented model. concerning information science, theories related to the representation of systems of concepts are analyzed, such as the theory of faceted classification and the theory of concept. as to the theory of terminology, principles established for determining concepts and their relationships are used. while assuring the specificity of each area, theories are compared, aiming at four topics related to the modeling process: the method of reasoning; the object of representation, the relationships among objects; the forms of graphical representation.
Campos, Maria Luiza de Almeida;
Perspectivas em Ciência da Informa??o , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-99362010000100013
Abstract: definition is investigated as an important issue for semantic expressiveness in ontologies. studies reveal that current ontologies do not have standards for definitions. this raises the question of compatibility among vocabularies of systems working cooperatively, as is the case of researches developed in bioinformatics. discussions about definitions in ontologies are found in the literature, but mostly on analysis of former definitions. based on theoretical principles, our research aims at developing a suitable type of definition in the construction of consistent domain ontologies, i.e. operative definitions.
