Abstract: macrolides are drugs that have antimicrobial effects, especially against intracellular pathogens. various studies have shown that macrolides might also have anti-inflammatory effects. macrolides inhibit the production of interleukins and can reduce pulmonary neutrophilic inflammation. clinical trials have demonstrated beneficial effects of macrolides in various chronic lung diseases. the objective of this study was to review recent data in the medical literature on the anti-inflammatory effects of macrolides in childhood lung diseases by searching the medline (pubmed) database. we used the following search terms: "macrolide and cystic fibrosis"; "macrolide and asthma"; "macrolide and bronchiolitis obliterans"; and "macrolide and acute bronchiolitis". we selected articles published in international scientific journals between 2001 and 2012. clinical studies and in vitro evidence have confirmed the anti-inflammatory effect of macrolides in respiratory diseases. some clinical trials have shown the benefits of the administration of macrolides in patients with cystic fibrosis, although the risk of bacterial resistance should be considered in the analysis of those benefits. such benefits are controversial in other respiratory diseases, and the routine use of macrolides is not recommended. further controlled clinical trials are required in order to assess the efficacy of macrolides as anti-inflammatory drugs, so that the benefits in the treatment of each specific clinical condition can be better established.

Abstract: this work intended to characterize the influence of substrates on seedling emergency velocity and polyembryony of citrus rootstocks. the experiment was carried out in greenhouse using four citric rootstocks (trifoliate orange, ?troyer? citrange, ?swingle? citrumelo and ?rangpur? lime), three commercial substrates (mogimaxò, plug mixò and cruz altaò) and a mixed substrate (carbonized rice hulls, cattle manure and soil, in the proportion of 3:1:1). seeds were sown in conical tubes (50 cm3), with a seed in each tube. the different substrates neither affect emergency or percentage of final emergency of rootstocks seeds nor polyembryony and average number of seedling per seed. seedling emergency velocity of citrus rootstocks is positively correlated with temperature.

ESTRATEGIAS PARA INCREMENTAR LA ELABORACIóN DE INFERENCIAS AL LEER TEXTOS DE ORDEN EXPOSITIVO
Adrián S.,Thays;
Investigación y Postgrado , 2002,
Abstract: the teaching-learning process demands a reader who reads with full understanding. specifically, academic success in higher education is closely linked to the student's reading competences, and above all with those needed to achieve an understanding of expository texts. this documentary study begins with an introduction on reading with understanding, then surveys the different strategies required to make inferences while reading expository texts, on the assumption that they are a key means to achieving understanding, and finally summarizes the contributions and importance of each of these strategies, as well as their applicability to the reading of expository texts.
Retórica de la tradición en el discurso político Venezolano: el culto a los héroes
Segovia,Thays Adrián;
Letras , 2009,
Abstract: the term tradition is linked to beliefs, thoughts, behaviors, practices and institutions. tradition has the social function of providing stability and unity. besides, it has a predominant role for the comprehension of social practices. a society without tradition has no referential frame upon which it can stabilize. as rhetoric, tradition makes use of evidences that do not need to be rationalized. in politics, especially in populist discourse, tradition provides the basis for communication and the framework for argumentation. populism appeals to popular identities expressed in tradition, symbols, values, characters and institutions, references that turn into ideology as they become part of political deliberation. in this work, this theme will be developed from the viewpoint of the sacred, almost mythical, character that the cult of heroes has in current venezuelan discourse and in its social practices. such sacred dimension is linked to power, and in this particular case, more specifically to populist discourse that orients its actions towards the achievement of uniting a particular community. we believe that the spinal cord of tradition rhetoric is its vision of history, which legitimize actions and unite groups. hence, the aim of these pages is to analyze the cult of heroes, specifically bolívar, as a source of ideological legitimization in the discourse of current venezuelan president, hugo chávez frías. to do so, we find support on the proposals of dussel (1983), of ortiz (1995), and on some tools provided by ideological discourse analysis (van dijk, 2004).

THE END OF OBJECTIVITY AND NEUTRALITY IN CIVIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL JOURNALISM
Beatriz Dornelles
Brazilian Journalism Research , 2008,
Abstract: This article stems from a bibliographic study about American civic journalism and from an exploratory research, using content and documental analysis of data collected by interview, questionnaire and copies of neighborhood and small town newspapers that have community characteristics, resulting in an comparative analysis of the two types of journalistic practice during the 1990s and the first five years of the 21st century. This kind of journalism, marked by the participation of the community, was also called communitary journalism, engaged journalism, popular journalism and public journalism. All of them have in common the centralizing of the profession′s practical objectives on encouraging efforts to advance citizenship, improving public debate, reviewing public life and contributing to the improvement of democracy. Based on this study, a proposal arose regarding some themes that are present in the daily press, especially the environment theme, calling for the end of the practical journalism that advocates a “sham neutrality, impartiality and objectivity”.

Docência no ensino superior: quest es e alternativas = Teaching Higher Education: alternately questions
Fischer, Beatriz T. Daudt
Educa??o , 2009,
