Beltr?o, Nilzane;Furian, Thales Quedi;Souza, Guilherme Fonseca de;Macagnan, Marisa;Fallavena, Luiz César Bello;Canal, Claudio Wageck;
Brazilian Journal of Microbiology , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-83822003000500024
Abstract: infectious laryngotracheitis virus (iltv) cause mild to severe respiratory disease in chickens, the purpose of our study being to use brazilian isolate of iltv to reproduce iltv disease in chickens by experimental infection and to compare three diagnostic methods (nested polymerase chain reaction (pcr), virus isolation, histopathology) for detection of iltv. forty-eight chickens intratracheally inoculated with iltv and a further 48 with pbs, showing mild respiratory signs 48 hours post infection (pi) but no signs of infection after day 10 pi. every 2 days pi, six birds were arbitrarily selected from the control and infected groups, sacrificed and the trachea collected. both the nested pcr and virus isolation detected the virus from day 2 until day 12 pi. however, at day 12 pi, pcr detected iltv dna in 100% of the samples while the virus isolation method detected iltv in only 33% of the samples. tracheal histopathology showed intranuclear inclusion bodies on days 8 and 10 pi. the results indicate that the field-isolate of iltv studied by us is of low pathogenicity and that our nested pcr protocol was able to detect positive samples over a longer infection period than many iltv diagnostic test already described.

Abstract: the occurrence of cytodites nudus and laminosioptes cysticola mites is rare and there is no report of this simultaneous infestation in brazilian scientific literature. c. nudus is known as the air sacs mite and may cause respiratory signs as well as pneumonia and weight loss when present in large numbers in the host. l. cysticola is found in connective tissue of galliforms and causes formation of small calcified subcutaneous nodules that can be confused with the characteristic nodules found in avian tuberculosis. in this paper are discussed the pathological findings of lesions caused by c. nudus and l. cysticola and their morphological characterization.

Acta Scientiarum : Agronomy , 2010,
With the advent of modern agriculture, landrace seeds were replaced by hybrid cultivars, which feature high grain yield potential – though more dependent on intensive technologies. The objective of this work was to evaluate maize landraces, in order to identify more productive materials that can lead a sustainable process in which the grains themselves in which can be used as seed. Fifteen maize varieties were evaluated, with commercial cultivars BR 106 and IPR 114 as controls. The experiments were carried out in Arapongas and Imbaú (Paraná State), during the 2004/2005 agricultural year, withoutexternal input. The design used was randomized blocks with four replications. The plots were two 4-m rows, spaced 90 cm apart, with 20 plants/row. The landrace varieties P-13, P-15 and P-05 showed high productive potential in low technological level systems, at eachlocation, as well as in the average of both locales. The varieties P-19 and P-10 have their recommendation restricted to Imbaú, while P-16 and P-17 will be indicated for Arapongas.

Revista de Enfermagem UFPE On Line , 2010,
Abstract: Objective: to analyze the importance of humanizing the nursing assistance in the typically technological ICU environments. Method: this is about a literature systematic review, in order to elaborate this study, 13 scientific articles found at Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) were used. Some criteria were adopted in the search, starting with the timespan, which only encompassed the years 2003 through 2008; besides that, only articles that dealt with humans were within our scope of interest; finally, we searched for articles written in Portuguese, English, Spanish or Italian. The texts were selected through the reading of their abstracts, and those which did not seem to have any relationship with the subject matter of the study, or that were repeated, were left out. Results: the dehumanization of the ICU environment cannot be attributed to technology alone as its main cause. The way by which the nursing professionals deal with these resources favors a balance between machine and human being. The article shows the relevance of humanization in Intensive Care Units, recognizing the patient’s and his/her family’s individuality, as well as the humanization of the professionals themselves as necessary elements for the process as a whole. Conclusion: by implanting a more humane attitude, both the patient and his/her family will feel safer and more welcome to face one of the most difficult periods of life in a more positive way.

Revista de Enfermagem UFPE On Line , 2010,
Abstract: Objective: to point the main differences between Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System (TISS-28) and Nursing Activities Score (NAS), suggesting which one better applies to the measurement of the nursing workload. Methods: this is about a literature narrative review being used eleven scientific articles and two master′s degree dissertations found at Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) were used, as well as two resolutions from Conselho Federal de Enfermagem (COFEN). Limits were defined years of publication from 2003 to 2008 and languages Portuguese, English and Spanish. Results: distinct aspects between TISS-28 and NAS were identified, and based on these differences, it became clear that NAS encompasses a wider range of nursing activities, making it possible its utilization to measure the real workload of this category in the intensive care. Conclusion: The utilization of instruments to dimension the nursing team is of great importance, because it guides the division and organization of the work in the units.
Inova??o tecnológica e meio ambiente: a constru??o de novos enfoques
Andrade, Thales de;
Ambiente & Sociedade , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-753X2004000100006
Abstract: since the 70s, environmental movements have discussed the impact of technological advance upon the planet ecosystem. with notions such as environmental impacts and risks in mind, environmental sociology has pointed out many effects of modern technologies on environment, mostly in a technological phobic manner and a defensive way. from the perspective of innovation, this paper aims to debate different positions regarding technology. instead of focusing on specific technologies and immediate effects, innovation provides a broader and systemic view on technological practices. the building of democratic and decentralized social and technological networks and efficient and multiple innovation environments represent today essential conditions for environmentalism.

Aspectos sociais e tecnológicos das atividades de inova??o
Andrade, Thales Novaes de;
Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64452006000100007
Abstract: the article aims to discuss social and technical aspects underlying the debate on innovation. it is noted that the schumpeterian tradition of innovation analysis underestimated cultural and political factors within technological paths. over the last decades, many tendencies have dedicated to cross economic and social aspects in studies on innovation and knowledge production and diffusion. studies concerning innovation systems and environments have rebuilt the focus on innovation, posing that management and organization of networks and knowledge flows provide a better understanding of technological and economic activities. but such tendencies have overlooked the technological questions concerning innovation, specially the study of technical objects and sets. the main objective of this article is to outline the need for an articulation of both technical and social aspects on innovation.
