Open Journal of Pediatrics (OJPed) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojped.2015.53029
Abstract: Premature infants, especially those born with less than 1500 g, often exhibit slow overall growth. Lack of early nutritional support is an important element. The present authors describe parenteral nutritional practices in a tertiary hospital and evaluate postnatal growth of preterm infants under 32 weeks of gestational age or with a birth weight < 1500 g. For population study, we examined 431 newborn files. Their median gestational age was 29.7 weeks. Of them, 25.4% were small for gestational age (SGA). 77.5% received parenteral nutrition (PN), 54.5% of which was provided on the first day. The average time was 14.7 days. The average weight gain by the 30th day was 425 g. At discharge, 37% were rd month 20% had their weight under P3, decreasing to 10% by the 12th month. Children who initiated PN in the first 24 hours of life had significantly better weight on the 30th day of their life (p < 0.001) and in the 6th month of corrected age (p = 0.038). And they had better Body Mass Index (BMI) in the 3rd (p = 0.012) and 12th (p = 0.023) months. Despite better feeding practices, there is still significant failure in post natal growth. Early introduction of PN was associated with an improved weight gain, which suggests that nutrition that included amino acids may be critical during the first 24 hours of life.

Anclajes , 2008,
Abstract: we consider discourse as practice in an attempt to understand/explain some characteristics of r. palma's tradiciones peruanas (peruvian traditions) from a perspective that brings the social agent back by constructing the place in which it originates and pointing out the active role it fulfils by means of what we call "the agent's competence and trajectory management". emerging from an adverse and marginalizing background, palma administers his resources, fundamentally his education and his convinient relationships with those who hold power. he inscribes his production where history and literature intersect; however, he defends the historical validity of his traditions at the same time his prestige growths, while as criticism worsens, he highlights his popular origin and his links with fiction. as he lacks specific qualities that add to his reputation in the presence of specialist peers, he attempts resources which could enable him to capture the acceptance of non-specialist readers.

Revista Portuguesa de Pneumologia , 2009,
Abstract: extrinsic allergic alveolitis and sarcoidosis are two granulomatosis of the lung characterized by non-necrotizing granuloma. both have typical bronchoalveolar lavage immunology, with opposite cd4/cd8 relation. however, sarcoidosis does not have such well defined etiology as extrinsic allergic alveolitis. the authors present two cases with similar clinical course, imagiology, lung function and immunology, although they both had an histology that was not concordant with the bronchoalveolar lavage, and with the peculiarity of being two elements of the same family, co -inhabitants and with a clinical presentation only a few weeks apart.
Poliniza??es Controladas em Castanea spp. e Caracteriza??o da Descendência e Progenitores por Microsatélites

Abstract: this study presents the first results obtained in controlled pollinations, performed for the production of hybrid populations involving resistant (castanea crenata sieb. & zucc and castanea mollissima blume) and susceptible (castanea sativa mill) genotypes to ink and blight diseases thus enabling the mapping of genes resistant to fungal diseases. the cultivars selection (the feminine parent) was targeted on the individuals with the greatest economic interest, while the choice of the masculine parents (c. crenata and c mollissima), on the diseases resistance. for the total of 68 isolations in 4 cultivars, about 408 flowers were pollinated. the total production of hybrid seeds was of 21 fruits. these seeds were then germinated, resulting in 11 plants. dna was extracted both from the parents, as well as their progeny and nuclear microsatellites were applied. the inheritance of the loci, for the different microsatellites, involving parents and progenies, was then analysed.

Abstract: based on the hypotheses that the characteristics of the discourse and the competence of the social agents that produce it maintain a relationship that we call of coherency, we analyze the metaphor of the family used by bartolomé mitre in the historia de san martín y de la emancipación sudamericana to represent the nation. in that respect, we sustain that this figure allows for a naturalization of the bonds among the citizens, as well as those with their homeland and with spain, that makes it particularly acceptable and, for the same reasons, facilitating the imposition of a national model that the cultured elite constructs. the trope bocomes a way to set limits that define inclusions and exclusions: the family is made up of the sons of spaniards adapted to the environment, thus eliminating the indigenous as "inert matter", the spaniards for not being adapted, and the immigrants that constituted, at the time the text was written, a threat to the cultured elite that exerted the control and administrated the representations of the nation

Abstract: Introduction: Infections are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in pediatric patients undergoing kidney transplantation (KT). Aim and Methods: To determine the patterns of infectious complications during the first 6 months post transplantation, we report our single center experience with data from pediatric kidney recipients transplanted between 2006 and 2011. Results: Thirty-two children (20 males) were submitted to KT. The most common cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) was congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) accounting for 62%. Over the first 6 months post-transplant period, twenty-eight (87.5%) children developed a total of 77 infections, mainly urinary tract infections (UTI) (64.9%). CAKUT etiology of ESRD and UTI before KT increased the risk to develop more than one episode of UTI [71.4% vs. 14.3% and 81.8% vs. 18.2%, respectively; p < 0.05]. Twenty-three (29.9%) viral infections occurred. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) was the most common opportunistic pathogen, occurred in 11 patients and was more frequently in those with a donor (D)+/recipient (R)- CMV sero-status [74.5% vs. 25.5% (p < 0.05)]. A polyomaviruses (BKV) disease with nephropathy and meningitis was registered. The majority of infectious episodes had mild or moderate severity. No deaths occurred. Conclusion: A significant number of patients presented infectious complications during the first 6 months post transplantation. UTI are the most common type of infection, followed by viral infections, particularly CMV. Recognition, prevention and early treatment of infections are of major importance.
