Abstract: minimal processing of vegetables adds value to the final product for increasing its convenience and reducing the time to prepare meals. this study aimed to evaluate the conservation of minimally processed green peppers 'konan r', sliced and conditioned in different plastic packages. the fruits were selected, washed, and sanitized in a sodium hypochlorite solution (200 mg l-1), for 15 minutes. their slices (1.0 cm thickness) were sanitized in a sodium hypochlorite solution (50 mg l-1), for 5 minutes, and then conditioned in: 1) expanded polystyrene trays, covered with polyvinyl chloride film (pvc) 0.014 mm; 2) rigid polypropylene (pp) packages, with lid made of the same polymer; 3) bioriented polypropylene (bopp) 0.060 mm plastic bags. the product was stored at 5±0.1oc and rh of 95±1%, for 6 days. the following analyses were performed every 2 days: mass loss, titratable acidity and ascorbic acid contents, ph, color (expressed in l* and a* values), ??and slices vigor. the plastic packages and storage time did not affect the ph, l* value, and slices vigor. the titratable acidity contents and a* value were affected by storage time. the polystyrene tray covered with pvc film led to greater mass loss and lower ascorbic acid content, in slices of green peppers stored at 5oc, for 6 days. thus, the pp package and the bopp plastic bag are preferable to condition minimally processed green pepper.

Abstract: this research was carried out aiming to evaluate the quality of pequi fruit (whole and sliced) after forced-air freezing storage during 12 months. the fruits were submitted to treatments as follows: selecting, washing, sanitizing, peeling, blanching, cooling, and slicing or not. after that, the fruits were storage using low density polyethylene bags and submitted to forced-air freezing (-18°c) for 6 hours and stored in freezer at the same temperature (±2°c) for 12 months. each three months were measured: ph, titratable acidity, soluble solids, firmness, color (l*, a*, b*, h° and c* values), total carotenoids, β-carotene, vitamin c, peroxide value, coliforms at 35°c and 45°c and salmonella sp. frozen whole pequi fruits is more effective in preserving the soluble solids and vitamin c contents and l* and b* values as compared to the sliced pequi fruits. the freezing-storage time reduce a*, b* and c* values, firmness values, soluble solids, total carotenoids, β-carotene and vitamin c contents of the pequi fruit, whole or sliced. pequi fruit frozen is not affected by rancidity oxidative process, and also does not alter the ph, titratable acidity, and color (h°). pequi fruit frozen and stored during 12 months are considered microbiologically safe, not offering health risks to consumers, since that the good practices of manufacture are realized and the freezing and stored process are performed correctly.
Reflex?es sobre a recategoriza??o referencial sem men??o anafórica

Linguagem em (Dis)curso , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1518-76322012000300009
Abstract: the purpose of this work is to describe a strategy of referential elaboration that is not yet well established: the recategorization without anaphoric expression. we consider that a branch of the studies in referenciation has searched to take on, with more intensity, the sociocognitive postulates, which inspire current researches in text linguistics. from this point, there are explanations that speak in favor of the integration among multiple factors in order to elaborate a referent. consequential to this, we see now that referenciation cannot be related only to the presence of noun phrases. the strategy we describe here contributes to understanding the "enlargement " whereby recategorization has passed since the first studies in the 1990s.

Como resultado espera-se que o artigo sirva de alerta e embasamento às políticas públicas urbanas de saneamento no denominado “Terceiro Mundo” This article on retrospective urban geography presents the historical water appropriation process in S o Paulo city, and its consequences on the urban population water supply. Based on the city-form and urbanization-process theoretical considerations (HARVEY, 1980), the objective is to identify the main agents (Light and Power Co., public and private sectors) that defined the water supply system, their strategies and action rationale since the city foundation (1554) towards nowadays. Initially based on individual water-pipes, the system evolved to a public state company (1973), and later on to a for the so-called “Third World”

Abstract: The performance of Artistic Gymnastics (AG) provides its practitioners with a general consciousness of the body’s existence, of movement within a space where distance, dimension, direction and perspective are assessed and controlled. This sporting activity involves a wide variety of movements, and is highly motivating because of the challenge it provides, while addressing the child’s need for action, providing pleasure during its execution and at the same time stimulating the attention and reflexes. It is intended to assess the profile, preferences and influences of AG practitioners, based on the experience of participants of the university extension project “Artistic Gymnastics: Practice of Psychomotor Activities”, established at the Bauru campus of UNESP. We used questionnaires and semi-structured interviews as data collection techniques for profiling, in order to obtain information including age, gender, and the factors influencing children in their choice of AG as an activity. The study population comprised AG students of both sexes, between the ages of 6 and 10 years. A total of 42 children participated in the research. Our initial observations are that the participants came from different neighborhoods of the city of Bauru (S o Paulo State), that 92% had never previously practiced gymnastics, and that 72% did not practice any other sport. Where other sports were practiced, the most popular was swimming (43%), followed by handball (29%), formal gymnastics and volleyball (14% each). We found that the average age of the participants was 9 years, with greater participation in the age range between 9 and 10 years. A majority (77%) of participants were female. All participants were students, predominantly at intermediate level schooling. 23% of the AG population were relatives (mainly siblings). 65% of participants did not have relatives either currently practicing AG, or who had previously practiced it. Parents often provided the initial stimulus for interest in the sport. The children’s preferences were for balance beam skills (46%), followed by floor exercises (20%) and parallel bars (16%). We found that 54% of participants opted for the sport after viewing it on television, 31% due to parental desires, and 15% because they saw friends practicing it. The role of parents appeared to be decisive, since a large majority of interviewees reported that the former provided the incentive for practice. Images, whether live or on television, are important factors motivating practice of this sport. La práctica de Gimnasia Artística (GA) proporciona a quienes la
Genetic interactions involving major genes at the dwarf locus in egg-type chickens

Abstract: three egg-type stocks segregating dwarf (dw) and bantam (dwb) genes in female progeny were produced from the same 18 heterozygous (dwb/dw) sires used to inseminate dams of three different genotypes: normal (dw+), dwarf (dw) and bantam (dwb) dams. the heritability of 8-week body weight estimated from full-sibs of the same phenotype of progeny was 0.40, and that estimated from paternal half-sibs of the same phenotype (dwarf or bantam), and from the same genotype of dam was 0.38. therefore, maternal and non-additive effects within genotypic classes of dam made little contribution to the genetic variance for 8-week body weight among their progeny. the interaction of sires (s) with genotypes (dw+, dw and dwb) of dam (g) was significant at the 5% level. this indicates that the rankings of the sires within each one of the three genotypes of dam were not the same, probably due to non-additive genetic variation among genotypes of dams. the evidence indicated that in general the genes from individual sires combined differently with each type of dam (g). those genes which combined well with the genes from normal (dw+) dams combined poorly with both the genes from the dwarf (dw) and the genes from the bantam (dwb) dams. the interaction of sires (s) with phenotypes (dwarf and bantam) of progeny (p) was significant at the 10% level. the results indicated a probable gene x genotype interaction for 8-week weight between genes at the dwarf locus (dw and dwb) and the background genotype (single and/or polygenes). the correlation among paternal half-sibs was influenced more by the s x g than by the s x p interaction, but the effects tended to be cumulative
Synthesis of stocks and phenotypic effects of dwarf and bantam sex-linked major genes in egg-type chickens

Brazilian Journal of Genetics , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-84551997000300003
Abstract: the present study describes the production of stocks segregating dwarf (dw), bantam (dwb) and normal (dw+) alleles, as well as the characters, shank length, adult body weight, age at sexual maturity and egg production. heterozygous k dw+/k dwb sires were mated to normal (dw+) dams to produce stock d6.a, and mated to dwb females to produce stock d6.b. stock d4.a came from mating f1 heterozygous dwb dw sires to dwarf leghorns. in a third series of matings, 7/8 sebright and 1/8 dw-leghorn dwb dw sires were crossed to three groups of dams of different genotypes. the progeny of the normal (dw+), dwarf (dw), and bantam (dwb) dams were designated as stocks d4.b, d4.c and d4.d, respectively. the dw+ dams were white leghorn strain cross females. the difference between the rate of laying of normal (69.7%) and their bantam sisters (68.6%) was not statistically significant when the average 32-week body weight of the dw+ sisters was 1,897 g. however, when the 32-week body weight of the normal daughters from the same sires and smaller dams was around 1,646 g, the difference between the rate of laying of the normal (78.1%) and their bantam sisters (75.9%) was significant (p < 0.05). the dwb gene may have a similar but smaller effect on the rate of egg laying than its dwarf allele. the difference between sexual maturity of normal and bantam daughters of either the largest or the smallest dams was not statistically significant, even though the smallest dwb pullets were in average 2.9 days older at first egg. the use of shank length combined with adult body weight allowed a precise discrimination between bantams and dwarfs
Estimativas de repetibilidades e herdabilidades para produ??o de ovos e pintos com acasalamentos hierárquicos em galinhas para corte
Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2000000500014
Abstract: repeatability (r) and heritability (h2) for reproductive traits were estimated from three meat-type chicken populations. one hundred and fifteen females were inseminated with semen of 23 males from three populations under a hierarchical mating system in a first experiment (e1) and with other 23 males in a second experiment (e2). four hatches, or blocks, were produced for each experiment. estimates of r and h2 were obtained by analyses of variance among males, and among females within males within populations and experiments, performed with averages per hen in each hatch. repeatabilities for egg production (post) were significant (p<0.01) and equal to 0.19±0.05 and 0.32±0.04 in experiments e1 and e2 respectively. for hatchability of fertile eggs (eclod), the h2 estimated from male components were 0.14±0.14 (p>0.05) and 0.26±0.17 (p<0.05). for hatchability of all eggs set (nasc), the h2 (p<0.05) based on male components were equal to 0.18±0.15 (e1) and 0.26±0.17 (e2). the h2 estimated from dam components were larger and significant (p<0.01). the dam estimates for eclod were 0.77±0.09 and 0.48±0.20 for e1 and e2 respectively, and for nasc, 0.58±0.21 (e1) and 0.48±0.20 (e2). the results confirm that eclod and nasc tend to present low additive genetic variability.
