Abstract: background: in brazil, resolution 196/96 and its amendments regulate the preservation of rights, respect and dignity of human beings involved in research. objective: to analyze the adequacy of free communications (fc) presented during the xviii congresso pernambucano de cardiologia to resolution 196/96. methods: during a cross-sectional study, interviews were carried out with the authors of the fc presented at the congress and the abstracts of the studies were assessed in order to identify the need for previous approval by a research ethics committee (rec). results: a total of 90 fc were presented and, in most of them (86.8%), medical files were the most commonly used source of data. only 23.1% of the fc were submitted to the assessment of a rec and 15.4% of them used a free and informed consent form (ficf). among the authors whose studies were not assessed by a rec, 65.6% stated that this conduct was not necessary and 18% of them were unaware of the need to submit the study to such assessment. the written authorization given by the institution where the fc were carried out was not obtained in 56.6% of the studies. most of the authors (80.0%) stated that they had never read resolution 196/96. the proportion of fc submitted to a rec was significantly higher among authors that had read resolution 196/96 (p = 0.005). the fc design influenced the non-submission of the studies to a rec (p < 0.001). most of the fc that were authorized by the institution where they were carried out were submitted to a rec (p < 0.001). conclusion: most of the fc presented at the congress did not follow the brazilian regulations concerning the ethics in research.

Abstract: aim: evaluate the influence of several methodological variables on the shear bond strength of in vitro studies. methods: 105 bovine incisors were sectioned at the cervical level. the coronary portion was included in pvc rings, fulfilled with auto polymerized acrylic resin, with its labial faces turned to the top. all the samples were prepared for bonding, cleaned and acid etched on the central area of the crowns. in this area, central incisors' morelli? brackets were bonded with concise? (3m/unitek). three testing groups were established, according to the studied variable: group 1 - storage previous to bonding (a-thymol 0,1%; b- distilled water; c- freezing); group 2 - crosshead speed of the universal testing machine (a- 0,5mm/min; b- 1,0mm/min; c- 2,00mm/min) and group 3 - commercial brand of 37% phosphoric acid (a- 3m/unitek; b- acid gel; c- attack tek). the shear bond strength test was performed at the emic dl2000? universal testing machine. data was analyzed through the student's t test for independent samples. results: in group 1, the freezing group showed the higher values of shear bond strength when compared to the others, although no statistical difference was observed (p>0,05). for group 2, the higher the crosshead speed, the lower the shear bond strength, with no statistical difference. in group 3, the 3m/unitek brand showed the highest average of shear bond strength in mpa, but also no statistical difference was shown. conclusions: the variable analyzed in this research had not presented enough influence to determine significant differences between the results.
Escala de atitude frente à fofoca: evidências de validade e confiabildade

Abstract: a fofoca é um elemento comum nas conversas cotidianas tanto de adultos quanto de crian?as, está presente em todas as culturas e explica diversos comportamentos sociais. portanto, considerando a relevancia desse construto e a ausência de medida específica no contexto brasileiro, decidiu-se adaptar a escala de atitudes frente à fofoca (eaff) para, especificamente, conhecer evidências de sua validade fatorial e de sua consistência interna. o instrumento é formado por 12 itens, respondidos em escala de 5 pontos, e mede dois fatores: valor moral e valor social da fofoca. participaram da pesquisa 261 estudantes universitários de institui??es públicas e privadas de jo?o pessoa (pb), com idade média de 26 anos, sendo a maioria do sexo feminino (71,6%). por meio de análises fatoriais confirmatórias, foram testados dois modelos: (1) unifatorial (alternativo) e (2) bifatorial (modelo original). os resultados mostraram que o modelo bifatorial apresentou os melhores indicadores de ajuste, com índices de confiabilidade (alfa de cronbach) aceitáveis para fins de pesquisa.
Tarefas relativas a conhecimentos linguísticos no ensino médio: o que se prescreve e o que se faz = Tasks on linguistic knowledge in the upper high school

Abstract: Este artigo discute as condi es atuais do ensino do eixo conhecimentos linguísticos, em contextos de ensino médio público e privado de uma cidade do Estado da Paraíba. As referências para a discuss o pertencem a dois campos: o das teorias linguísticasdo texto e do discurso, subjacentes às orienta es oficiais nacionais para o ensino desse eixo do ensino de língua materna; e o campo dos educacionais sobre os fatores determinantes do trabalho docente. A análise de dados, constituídos por tarefas de avalia o aplicadas emquatro escolas públicas e quatro escolas privadas, mostra que as diferen as entre os dois contextos de ensino residem apenas quanto ao favorecimento do aluno da escola privada, em termos de acesso a material impresso. Dois aspectos permanecem semelhantes nestescontextos escolares: as precárias condi es de intera o do professor com as fontes de referência para prepara o das tarefas didáticas; e o enfoque do objeto de ensino, que, por ser predominantemente estrutural e normativo, encontra-se desvinculado da demandanacional pela inova o no ensino do eixo Conhecimentos Linguísticos, sinalizada, no decorrer desta primeira década do século XXI, nas iniciativas oficiais de parametriza o e avalia o do ensino de Língua Portuguesa. Current teaching conditions on linguistic knowledge in public and private secondary education contexts in a town in the state of Paraíba, Brazil, are discussed. References for discussioninvolve two fields, or rather, linguistic theories concerning text and discourse underlying the Brazilian official guidelines for the teaching of the mother tongue, and the educational field pertaining to determining factors in the teaching task. Data analysis, comprisingevaluation tasks performed in four public and four private schools, shows that the differences between the two teaching contexts lie within the context of a more favourable standing of the private school student, mainly in terms of access to printed material. Twoaspects are similar in the two school contexts: the teacher’s poor conditions to interact with bibliographical sources in order to prepare classroom activities, and the focus of the teaching object. Since the latter is predominantly structural and normative, it is foreign to the national requirements for an innovatory form of teaching in Linguisitc Knowledge. In the first decade of the 21st century, these requirements have been embodies by the officialinitiative in the parameters and evaluation of Portuguese language teaching.

Abstract: This article approaches the role that the education offered in schools will be able to assume in the humanization of social relations, in resistance to barbarian. All the people - children, adults and elderly people - are products and producers of individual and collectively lived and constructed experiences, that bring the marks of the social and cultural heterogeneity. The educational work, upbringing citizens in new ethics and humanism, will contribute to the construction of other forms of sociability, not founded in the simple material exchange and crystallized stereotypes. The human rights as educative conception and didactic-or ganizing strategy must base the pedagogy of life and the affirmation of the alterity.

Spatial modeling of dengue and socio-environmental indicators in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Abstract: this study analyzed the spatial distribution of dengue in rio de janeiro, brazil, in 2006, and associations between the incidence per 100,000 inhabitants and socio-environmental variables. the study analyzed reported dengue cases among the city's inhabitants, rainfall, breteau index (for aedes aegypti and aedes albopictus), gini index, and social development index. we conducted mapping and used the global moran index to measure the indicators' spatial autocorrelation, which was positive for all variables. the generalized linear model showed a direct association between dengue incidence and rainfall, one-month rainfall time lag, gini index, and breteau index for a. albopictus. the conditional autoregressive model (car) showed a direct association with rainfall for four months of the year, rain time lag in july, and gini index in february. the results demonstrate the importance of socio-environmental variables in the dynamics of dengue transmission and the relevance for the development of dengue control strategies.
A influência da consciência fonológica em crian?as alfabetizadas pelos métodos f?nico e silábico

Abstract: purpose: to compare the level of phonological awareness in classes taught with phonic and syllabic methods, through the investigation of the influence of teaching methods on the development of phonological awareness. methods: a sample of twelve children aged seven in average, students of two private schools in brasília, took part in the experiment. one school teaches through phonic method and the other one teaches through syllabic method. six of the children were taught with phonic method while the other six were taught with syllabic method. all the children were submitted to the "phonological ability profile" test. results: the students of both schools achieved similar scores on the test in general and on most of the sub-tests. on the sub-tests involving phoneme sums and syllable and phoneme subtractions the children taught with phonic method scored higher. on the test of phrasal segmentation, the female participants had higher scores. conclusion: the participants of the two schools had similar results on the general final score of the phonological awareness test.
