Abstract: dip's actions, especially its repressive ones, have attracted considerable attention among scholars in brazil and abroad. less emphasis has been put on dip's efforts as an editor and financer of books that were well-inclined to the government. most of the time all that is given is a list of titles favorable to the regime, which is considered to prove the investment in the image of the head of the regime, getúlio vargas. research in two north-american collections allowed an ensemble of books published in the period to be put together, which pointed to the complex relations established among authors, publishers and printers. furthermore, the existence of these foreign materials abroad indicates the existence propaganda efforts of the regime targeted towards an international audience.

Based on research carried out with under-graduate Letters students, we aim at understanding their concepts of learning and teaching, as well as of language in order to plan actions in the University education process. Implied in this practical purpose, this contribution further discusses the role of language (Vygotsky, 1994; Smolka, 2000; Rossetti-Ferreira; Amorim; Silva, 2004), narrative (Bruner, 2002) and memory (Middleton; Brown, 2005) in the constitution of professional identity (Vieira, 1999) of future teachers of English. The linguistic analysis counts on the instrumental support of Systemic Functional Linguistics principles (Martin; Rose, 2003).

Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/fns.2015.611102
Abstract: More researches are needed to identify the relevant factors influencing the generation of food waste and devise preventive strategies. The objective of this study is to develop a checklist to assess the good management practices that have a positive impact on eliminating or minimizing food waste in food service units. A theoretical list of relevant factors impacting the generation of food waste during meal production is developed, taking into account administrative planning, receipt and storage of foods, and the preparation and distribution of meals by food service units. For each factor, several administrative and/or technical actions are identified. To validate the content, this list is submitted to a ten-member expert panel for a final evaluation. The factor (and its respective actions) is considered relevant if 80% of the expert panel members agree on its relevance. All actions employ a dichotomous response of Yes/No. Affirmative responses are expected because these actions are considered to be good management practices that have a positive impact on eliminating or minimizing food waste. Following the panel approval process, a checklist of 12 factors and 102 actions is detailed. The conceptual structure of the checklist for food waste management presented in this study enables a comprehensive understanding of the factors that impact food waste, providing a theoretical basis for future research into the relative importance of the relevant factors and actions identified in this study.

Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/fns.2014.511112
Abstract:

The aim of this investigation was to analyze two samples of pollen from jandaíra stingless bees (Melipona subnitida) in view of their mineral composition, free amino acids and sugars. Palynological analysis showed that the predominant pollen was monofloral from Senna sp. species (94.5%, pollen 2011) and the second pollen sample showed the presence of two primary species, Chamaecrista sp. (39.2% pollen 2009) and Mimosa tenuiflora (43.5%) (pollen 2009). The highest mineral content was potassium. The bee pollen contained 20.8% and 31.0% of mannitol in samples from 2011 and 2009, respectively. Proline and serine are the predominant amino acids. High content of essential amino acids, minerals and the sugar mannitol confirmed high nutritional value of pollen samples from jandaíra bees.

Polymorphism of human haptoglobin and its clinical importance
Wobeto, Vania Peretti de Albuquerque;Zaccariotto, Tania Regina;Sonati, Maria de Fátima;
Genetics and Molecular Biology , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-47572008000400002
Abstract: haptoglobin (hp) is a plasma glycoprotein, the main biological function of which is to bind free hemoglobin (hb) and prevent the loss of iron and subsequent kidney damage following intravascular hemolysis. haptoglobin is also a positive acute-phase protein with immunomodulatory properties. in humans, the hp locus is polymorphic, with two codominant alleles (hp1 and hp2) that yield three distinct genotypes/phenotypes (hp1-1, hp2-1 and hp2-2). the corresponding proteins have structural and functional differences that may influence the susceptibility and/or outcome in several diseases. this article summarizes the available data on the structure and functions of hp and the possible effects of hp polymorphism in a number of important human disorders.
