Passos, Eduardo Henrique;Souza, Tadeu Paula;
Psicologia & Sociedade , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822011000100017
Abstract: harm reduction (hr) has been consolidated as an important national movement, promoting the building of a democratic drug policy. in this article we will highlight how hr has been shaped in the face of clashes with totalitarian forces of the "war on drugs" global policy. we will focus on both international and national aspects that came together to build an anti-drug policy. it is within this political scenario that hr is consolidating itself as a different and feasible drug policy. we intend to show the extent to which the inclusion of drug users in collective arrangements of management is an important clinical and political direction of the hd movement, defining a new proposal for health care. from these collective spaces of care, drug users have been able to weave a national network of cooperation and production of a common struggle.

Di Filippo, Paula Alessandra;Santana, Aureo Evangelista;Pereira, Gener Tadeu;
Ciência Rural , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-84782008000400015
Abstract: seventy horses were distributed into three experimental groups ad follows: g1, twenty healthy animals; g2, twenty-five colic horses that survived after clinical or surgical treatment; and g3, twenty-five colic horses that were sacrificed or died after clinical or surgical treatment. blood samples were taken from the jugular vein to assess acid-base balance and water-electrolyte balance. colic horses had lower ph(v) (p<0.05), mainly g3 animals. acidosis was confirmed by the lower ph(v) associated with decreased pco2(v), cbase(v) and chco-3(vp), which was probably due to an increased production of lactate during anaerobic glycolysis as a result from hypovolemia. furthermore, hyponatremia, hypokalemia and hyperchloremia were detected. the presence and the extent of the imbalances contributed substantially to the prognosis of colic horses.

Application of CO2 through water reduces the soil solution pH, causing variations in nutrient mobility and consequent effects on the absorption. The objective of this study was to analyze the effects of carbon dioxide rates supplied by drip irrigation in the production of Capsicum frutescens L. crop. A randomized block design with four treatments and eight replications was used. The treatments were four rates of CO2: 0 (T1), 451.95 (T2); 677.93 (T3) and 903.92 (T4) kg ha-1. The fruits were counted and weighed; the length and the diameter were obtained from an average of 20 fruits per plant, randomly taken, from each treatment in the plot. The quadratic effect (p < 0.01) occurred for CO2 on the yield and there was quadratic effect (p < 0.05) of the rates on the number of fruits. There were no effects of CO2 rates on the green matter, dry matter and fruit length and diameter. The T2 treatment provided greater yield and higher number of fruits per plant with an increase of 16 and 26%, respectively in relation to T1 (without CO2). CO2 application favored the increase in the yield because of the greater number of fruits per plant in the Tabasco pepper crop.

Abstract: background: skin cancer is the most frequent type of human cancer and has shown an increase in its incidence. in many cases, before the onset of the carcinoma, there might be a precursor lesion - actinic keratosis, which can develop into squamous cell carcinoma. studies have been carried out in order to etermine the parameters that have prognostic significance in predicting those tumors which have more aggressive behavior. objective: to evaluate the expression of markers of cell proliferation (pcna, ki-67) and apoptosis (p53,bcl-2) in patients with squamous cell carcinoma and actinic keratosis. method: we studied samples from 30 patients, ten patients of squamous cell carcinoma, ten with actinic keratosis and ten lesion-free samples from blepharoplasty. results: p53 protein was expressed in all cases with different quantitative patterns. bcl-2 was expressed at low intensity in six cases of actinic keratosis in the skin from blepharoplasty and negative in cases of squamous cell carcinoma. pcna showed intense expression in all samples. ki-67 showed variable expression in cases of keratosis and carcinoma and negative in the skin from the eyelid. conclusion: the high expression of ki-67 associated with low expression of bcl-2 indicates proliferation in the carcinoma group. thus, expression of p53 and bcl-2 in patients with actinic keratosis indicates cell immortalization.
