Vianna, Alberto Domingues;Gasparetto, Taísa Davaus;Torres, Gisela Costa;Saddy, José Carlos;Marchiori, Edson;
Radiologia Brasileira , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-39842011000500003
Abstract: objective: to characterize the mammographic appearance of cancerization of lobules by ductal carcinoma in situ (dcis), by correlating imaging and histological findings. materials and methods: this retrospective study was based on a review of the histopathological reports of 135 patients who underwent breast biopsy. a diagnosis of cancerization of lobules by dcis was confirmed in 12 patients. two cases were excluded because the histopathological sections were not available to correlate pathological and mammographic findings. all mammograms were retrospectively reviewed and categorized by two experienced breast radiologists, with no knowledge of the histological findings. results: nine cases (90%) presented clusters of round microcalcifications, and one (10%) had round and linear calcifications. the distribution of the calcifications was defined as lobular in all the cases. histopathological study showed four cases of cribriform dcis, two cases of comedo dcis, one case of solid dcis, one case of cribriform associated with solid dcis, and one case of cribriform associated with solid and comedo dcis. in the case showing round and linear calcifications, the histological subtype was cribriform dcis. with respect to the number of microcalcifications, nine cases presented more than 20, and only one case showed less than 10 microcalcifications. conclusion: in our cohort, the mammographic evaluation of patients with dcis presenting cancerization of lobules demonstrated clusters of microcalcifications in a lobular distribution. although clusters of round calcifications are typically associated with a benign process, cancerization of lobules by dcis may produce a similar pattern, thus mimicking a benign condition.
Pineal yolk sac tumor: correlation between neuroimaging and pathological findings
Davaus, Taísa;Gasparetto, Emerson L.;Carvalho Neto, Arnolfo de;Jung, Juliana Elizabeth;Bleggi-Torres, Luiz Fernando;
Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X2007000200018
Abstract: a 17-year-old boy presented with somnolence and mental confusion. physical examination demonstrated motor disturbances. laboratorial investigation showed elevated levels of alpha-fetoprotein in serum and cerebrospinal fluid. the ct scan revealed a heterogeneous mass at the pineal region. at the mri, this lesion was hypointense on t1 and hyperintense on t2-weighted images, enhancing after contrast administration. the patient underwent a surgical biopsy, which defined the diagnosis of yolk sac tumor. we emphasize the correlation of neuroimaging and pathological findings of this rare pineal region tumor.
Bacterial pneumonia following bone marrow transplantation: HRCT findings
Coelho, Luiz Otávio de Mattos;Gasparetto, Taísa Davaus;Escuissato, Dante Luiz;
Jornal Brasileiro de Pneumologia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-37132009000500007
Abstract: objective: to describe hrct findings in patients with bacterial pneumonia following bone marrow transplantation (bmt). methods: this was a retrospective study involving 30 patients diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia in whom hrct of the chest was performed within 24 h after the onset of symptoms and the diagnosis was confirmed, based on a positive culture of sputum or bronchial aspirate, together with a positive pleural fluid or blood culture, within one week after symptom onset. there were 20 male patients and 10 female patients. the median age was 21 years (range, 1-41 years). the bmt had been performed for the treatment of the following: chronic myeloid leukemia, in 14 cases; severe aplastic anemia, in 6; acute myeloid leukemia, in 4; fanconi's anemia, in 3; and acute lymphocytic leukemia, in 3. two radiologists analyzed the hrct scans and reached their final decisions by consensus. results: the most common hrct findings were air-space consolidation (in 60%), small centrilobular nodules (in 50%), ground-glass opacities (in 40%), bronchial wall thickening (in 20%), large nodules (in 20%), pleural lesions (in 16.7%) and tree-in-bud opacities (in 10%). the pulmonary lesions were distributed in the central and peripheral areas in 15 patients, whereas they were exclusively peripheral in 11. lesions were located in the lower and middle lobes of the lung in 22 and 20 patients, respectively. conclusions: the most common hrct findings in our patient sample were air-space consolidation, small centrilobular nodules and ground-glass opacities, most often in the central and peripheral regions of the middle and lower lung zones.
Cerebral X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy: follow-up with magnetic resonance imaging
Gasparetto, Emerson L.;Rosa, Juliana Mecunhe;Davaus, Taísa;Carvalho Neto, Arnolfo de;
Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X2006000600030
Abstract: objective: to report a case of childhood cerebral x-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (x-adl), emphasizing the magnetic resonance imaging (mri) findings at initial evaluation and at the follow-up. case report: five year-old boy, who was asymptomatic, presented with diagnosis of x-adl for mri evaluation. the initial brain mri showed a focal area of enhancement at the splenium of the corpus calosum. one year later, the follow-up mri showed a progression of the corpus calosus lesion, as well as other lesions in the parietal and occipital lobes. conclusion: the brain mri follow-up of patients with x-adl is important to show the progression of the lesions.
Central nervous system hemorrhage in thrombocytopenic patients: computed tomographic findings in 21 cases
Gasparetto, Emerson L.;Benites Filho, Paulo R.;Davaus, Taísa;Carvalho Neto, Arnolfo de;
Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X2007000200015
Abstract: objetive: to describe the ct scan findings of 21 thrombocytopenic patients with central nervous system (cns) hemorrhage. method: retrospective study of the computed tomography (ct) of 21 platelet-depleted patients with cns hemorrhage. one patient presented two episodes of hemorrhagic episode with different intervals. the clinical data were obtained by the review of the medical records. two radiologists analyzed the films and reached the decisions by consensus. the following findings were studied: type of bleeding, number of lesions, topography, laterality, size and associated findings. results: intraparenchymal hemorrhage (iph) was the most common findings, found in 20 cases, being six of them associated with subarachnoid and intraventricular hemorrhages. the size of the lesions varied between 1.8 and 10.5 cm. the parietal lobes were more commonly affected (n=11, 50%), followed by the temporal (n=7, 31.8%), frontal (n=7, 31.8%) and occipital (n=2, 9.09%) lobes. in 15 cases (68.2%) there was a single area of hemorrhage and in the remaining cases there were multiple hemorrhages. associated findings were found in 20 cases. the most prevalent were edema (n=17, 77.3%), hydrocephalus (10, 45.4%) and midline shift (n=9, 41%). conclusion: the most frequent ct scan findings in thrombocytopenic patients with cns hemorrhage are single iph, located mostly in the parietal, temporal and frontal lobes, with varied sizes and associated with edema, hydrocephalus and midline shift.

SA Olakojo, TA Akinlosotu
African Journal of Biotechnology , 2004,
Abstract: Laboratory experiment was conducted to assess the efficacy of different storage methods of maize grains in Ibadan (a humid tropical ecology) between year 2002 and 2003. The results shows that storage methods (SM), treatment (Tr), SM x Variety (V) and Tr x V interactions were highly significant for numbers of undamaged maize grains (P<0.05). Second order interaction (SM x Tr x V) was highly significant for undamaged maize grains, while first and second order interaction were also highly significant for initial kernel weight, kernel weight loss, remained kernel weight (RKW), percentage weight loss, tolerance level, as well as number of insects pest responsible for the damage.

Conjun es condicionais no português = Conditional conjunctions on Portuguese
Taísa Peres de Oliveira
Acta Scientiarum : Language and Culture , 2010,
This paper aims at providing an account for conditional marking on Brazilian Portuguese. The studied carried out here shows that there are a wide group of conditional conjunctions, though the amount of papers focus on the conjunction “se” ‘if’ only. As it is shown here, on Brazilian Portuguese conditional conjunctions can be of three types, expressing different senses here called positive restrictive, negative restrictive and hypothetic. Thus, conditional clauses wereanalyzed to verify whether the different senses can bring any influence over the clause construction. In order to do that, this paper analyzed conditionals clauses in the terms of the modifier typology put forward by Functional Discourse Grammar. As a result, we found out that the sense cannot make any influence over the clause.
