Scientia Medica , 2006,
This study was made to divulgue a powerfull resource in the treatment of mesial temporal lobe epilepsy due to hippocampal sclerosis (MTLE-HS): the surgery. Aproximatelly 25. 000 patients with this patology are medically refractary in the South Brazil and that many of these patients came to neurosurgeon with history of 30, 40 years of evolution, many times yet mutilated in cause of the convulsion crisis. Partial convulsion originated in the temporal lobe are common, and many of them are originate on mesials structures (mesial temporal sclerosis). Considering that the temporal lobe is the headquarters of nervous sistem noble functions a memory, learning, behavior, among others a , the symptoms may present like alterations in anyone of these. Might be sticked out the necessity of correct diagnosis and methods to make it: trough the anamnesis, magnetic ressonanci imaging, EEG, a V DEO-EEGa , and sometimes trough intracranial sensors (strips). Despite trustfull methods to accomplish the diagnosis, candidates to surgery and surgical methods with high success rate, the desinformation of the professionals that attend patients with MTE takes to prolongation of inefficients clinical treatments, and people with physical, psycological and social complications due to many years of temporal mes

Tourism activities are gaining emphasis in recent decades to be an activity that has contributed to the social and economic development in many regions. Such activity has importance, as the decision making of a manager can generate benefits or harms on the society in which tourism is inserted. Thus, this paper presents as objective the development of a scale for measuring the construct moral intensity considering the context of ethical decision making of the managers in tourism. The literature review indicated that the moral intensity construct didn’t have a validated scale for this context. The moral intensity construct was proposed by Jones (1991) that was based on the analysis of moral topic in itself, considering that each individual will react differently at various intensities in the face of e

Abstract: Introduction: The loss of the teeth surface or not carious lesion, is a physiological process that occur during the aging, but can be considered as pathological when the degree of destruction creates functional problems, aesthetic or dental sensibility. Many factors can contribute in part, but not necessarily simultaneously or equally as the cause of the not carious lesions. Although the cases of attrition (attrition, abrasion, corrosion and abfraction) are commonly discussed as independent alterations, in most of the times the loss of the teeth surface is the result of a combination of factors. One of the greatest challenges is to identify or quantify the influence of factors like the excessive consumption and abusive of drugs and acid substances, environmental factors and intrinsic etiologic agents such as gastro esophageal reflux. The immediate treatment must be directed for the resolution of sensibility and from pain; however, the investigation of the cause is essential. Objective: The objective of this work is, through the literature review; help the many medical specialties to identify correctly the etiologic factors of not carious lesions.

Abstract: the literature on the evaluation of characters in advertising shows that the identification of social groups with ethnics varies according to the investigated object. with the aim of contributing to this field a survey was carried out with 4200 university students, in order to identify their reactions to a watch advertisement. the analysis considered three dependent variables, evaluating advertising, product and character; and three independent variables, evaluating the color of the respondent as well as the color and the educational level of the character perceived by the respondents. the results showed that the color of the skin of the character had little effect on the evaluation of the advertisement or the product, even among respondents who were of the same skin color. however, the perception of the educational level of the character was significant to explain the different ratings of the advertising and the product.

Abstract: brazilian spotted fever, caused by rickettsia rickettsii, has been increasingly reported in brazil especially in the southeastern states. the severe and fulminant forms of the disease are not unusual but most of the reported fatal cases have shown some typical clinical clue, which leads the attending physician to a correct diagnosis. we report a probable case of atypical fulminant brazilian spotted fever that presented full-blown septic shock associated with adult respiratory distress syndrome (ards) and delayed uncharacteristic rash with an over four-fold increase in reciprocal igm, but not igg titer against rickettsia rickettsii. brazilian practitioners should be aware of the possibility of brazilian spotted fever as a cause of fulminant primary sepsis with ards; improved laboratory methods are necessary for the rapid diagnosis of such cases.

Abstract: human ehrlichia chaffeensis infections have been reported in north america, asia and europe, but only recently have human cases been reported in brazil. nine new human cases of e. chaffeensis infection diagnosed on a clinical and serological basis are reported. serological tests were performed with indoor slides prepared with cdc stock dh-82 cells infected with e. chaffeensis (arkansas strain). all but two patients were adults. seven patients were male and two female. the fever duration varied from 4 to 120 days with a median of 6 days. all patients recalled previous tick attack. igm was detected in four cases. influenza like syndrome was the most frequent clinical form affecting five patients. two patients had fever of unknown origin (fuo), one patient had blood culture-negative endocarditis and one had encephalitis. all patients except one recovered. two patients were correctly treated. one patient with fuo had aids and unexplained pancytopenia. the occurrence of human ehrlichiosis by e. chaffeensis remains to be proved in brazil; the cases reported here highlight the possibility of such disease occurrence in brazil.
