HTS Theological Studies/Teologiese Studies , 2009, DOI: 10.4102/hts.v60i1/2.524
Abstract: The psychological phenomenon of erotic transference and countertransference within the framework of pastoral care This article aims to discuss the psychological phenomenon of transference and countertransference in therapeutical relationships. This phenomenon often leads to a sexual relationship resulting in emotional and psychological damage to both partners. The cause of this destructive sexual relationship is based on the therapist’s misunderstanding of positive transference within the therapeutic relationship. The therapist, unknowingly in most instances, misuses his or her position of trust for sexual exploitation of the client. This phenomenon also manifests in pastoral relationships. This article describes the phenomenon and provides possible guidelines to the pastor in order to identify and prevent the occurrence of “sex in the forbidden zone.”

Abstract: ?

Irunmale (Spiritual Entities) of Yoruba Traditional Religion
T.F. Jemiriye,Akinlola Awosusi
Pakistan Journal of Social Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: The hierarchy inherent in Yoruba pantheon reflects the political ideals and structure of Yoruba. Hence, the Supreme Being (Olodumare) is supremely deferred and cannot be directly approached. Other Spiritual beings/entities/divinities (Irunmale), who are his lieutenants, are ministers, functioning as intermediaries between the Supreme Being and humans. This religious worldview has another significance for modern Yoruba studies: In spite of the domination of Islam and Christianity, this traditional worldview is still prevalent and even pervading the Abrahamic religion. To give a thorough analysis of this religious worldview, this paper examines the similarities and differences between the spiritual entities, the problem of their number, their ontological status and relationship to the Supreme Being (Olodumare). This study will give background knowledge not only to the religious worldview of Yoruba, including their forms of Christianity and Islam, it will also shed light on the political behaviour of an average Yoruba person.
The Concept of Planning in Yoruba Traditional Religion
T.F. Jemiriye,Akinlola Awosusi
The Social Sciences , 2013,
Abstract: Planning, which is a prepared set of attitudes and actions, requires forethought. Forethought in turn is a characteristic of rational man. This latter is what the some imperialists and even missionaries deny of the African, before, during and even in the post colonial period of Africa. This and many other characteristics of humans, such as the concepts of God and time were denied of the African man. However, scholars of religion and anthropologists, Western and African, had successfully established that Africans have explicit and clear concept of God. The wide-acclaimed religiosity of Africans in the modern period has corroborated their efforts. The concept of planning, however, have not been so established. The failure to do this may be a factor in the economic, political and other prevalent problems in Africa. Since the concept of planning s intricately linked with the concept of time, this was the first to be established in this study. The traditional system of counting days and months in Yoruba has religious origin just like it is in the Gregorian calendar. Three forms of management planning are then explored: Schedule of duties, management of human resources, and management of money and other material resources. Perhaps, if the Western form of planning that the Africans have been trying to copy unsuccessfully is fused with the traditional, the concept will become clearer.

“Kenotiese” prediking – die katalisator vir liturgiese verdieping in die huidige konteks?
T.F.J. Dreyer
HTS Theological Studies/Teologiese Studies , 2009, DOI: 10.4102/hts.v61i1/2.440
Abstract: “Kenotic” preaching – a catalyst for liturgical revival within the present context In this article the urge towards a new liturgical approach is investigated from a systemic perspective. The interactive dynamics of the different liturgical elements cannot change if the dominant influence of preaching on liturgy as a whole is not taken into consideration. Within the framework of the theological tradition of the Reformation, preaching is considered as the liturgical core. In order to achieve maximum participation of the congregation, liturgical movements usually focus on the renewal of liturgical elements within worshipping, neglecting the decisive role of preaching. This research investigates the “kenotic” rhetorical approach of D J Lose (Confessing Jesus Christ: Preaching in a postmodern world) as a possible catalyst for liturgical revival.
Die kerk, die huwelik en seks – ’n morele krisis?
T.F.J. Dreyer
HTS Theological Studies/Teologiese Studies , 2009, DOI: 10.4102/hts.v64i1.9
Abstract: The church, marriage and sex – a moral crisis? Within Western societies the church is challenged by a new sexual “morality”. Seemingly, the traditional theological answers do not address the challenge sufficiently. The incompetence of the church to change people’s minds leads to a moral crisis. This article is an attempt to create awareness that the church has no choice but to review her traditional stance. This awareness will only surface once we are prepared to acknowledge that our traditional views were influenced by different contexts through the ages. Therefore it is necessary, in a postmodern context, to theologically reflect afresh within this context.

T.F.J. Dreyer
HTS Theological Studies/Teologiese Studies , 2009, DOI: 10.4102/hts.v62i4.414
Abstract: The accommodation and management of diversity at congregational level Diversity is becomming a prominent phenomenon of our society within a postmodern context. Many clergy and church members believe it threatens the peace and stability of churches and local congregations. Seemingly, diversity contributes to the escalation of conflict and the stress levels church leaders are experiencing. This article attempts to analize and describe the phenomenon of diversity from the angles of postmodernity, personality preferences and systems thinking. The research is based upon the hypothesis that diversity does not necessarily threaten the unity of local congregations. The manifestation of unity within diversity is only possible if leaders are sensitized to manage the challenges of pluriformity.
