Journal of Minerals and Materials Characterization and Engineering (JMMCE) , 2008, DOI: 10.4236/jmmce.2008.72013
Abstract: A novel energy-economic and environmentally benign technological procedure for chlorination of niobium and tantalum oxides as well as their low-grade ore concentrates was elaborated. The process is based on using carbon tetrachloride or silicon tetrachloride as a chlorinating agent under pressure. It proceeds at moderate temperatures and is free from the shortcomings of conventional carbochlorination processes such as the use of chlorine gas at very high temperatures and formation of toxic products and ozone depleting agents (phosgene, carbon monoxide, chlorohydrocarbons).

S. Balaslubramaniyan, T. S. Sivakumaran
Circuits and Systems (CS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/cs.2017.88014
Abstract: This paper presents a gross examination about Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) to invigorate the power issues at the distribution level of the electrical system. Nowadays power electronics research has added the importance of power quality studies, for concrete illustration, Custom Power Devices (CPD) and Flexible AC Transmission position (FACTS) devices. The approach offered in this paper utilizes the series and shunt compensator of Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) to inject a compensation voltage in-phase with the source current over voltage fluctuations. The execution of two structures of UPQC, left-shunt (L-UPQC) and right-shunt (R-UPQC) are investigated under diverse operating conditions based on the fuzzy logic controller to raise the value of power quality of a single feeder distribution system by MATLAB/Simulink programming. Various power quality issues have been analyzed in this study. Finally, the right shunt UPQC is outperformed in this proposed power system.

Preparation and Optical Patterning of Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Color-Filter Films Using Latent Pigments by Utilizing Photo-Acid-Generator and Microwave Irradiation  [PDF]
T. Ohishi, S. Sugawara
Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2014.514111
Abstract: Preparation and photo-patterning characteristics of organic-inorganic hybrid thin film containing latent pigment by using photo-acid-generator (PAG) and microwave irradiation have been investigated. The acrylic thin film modified with methoxysilane containing PAG was formed on a glass substrate and irradiated with ultraviolet rays to promote sol-gel reaction by catalytic action of acid which was generated from PAG. And then the film was hardened with microwave irradiation, yielding organic-inorganic hybrid polymer film having hardness, highly transparency and strong adhesion with a glass substrate. Since this reaction only occurred in the optically (UV) irradiated regions, by exploiting the difference between the adhesivenesses of these regions photo-irradiated through photomask with a glass substrate, it was possible to form a patterned film with pitch of 100 to 50 μm by a simple lift-off method. A pigment-containing film using latent pigments (with subtractive three primary colors of coloring materials) and a patterned film were prepared, and it was possible to make these films multi-colored by varying the mixing ratio of the pigments. This multi-colored film-preparation method is effective for simply and efficiently forming a color-filter film by applying optical and microwave irradiation.
Biochemical changes during composting of coir pith waste as influenced by different agro industrial wastes  [PDF]
T. Muthurayar, M. S. Dhanarajan
Agricultural Sciences (AS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/as.2013.45B005
Abstract:

Coir pith, a byproduct of coconut husk is difficult to decompose due to its high lignin and cellulose content. In this study, coir pith was composted with different agro industrial by products such as cow dung, vegetable market waste, poultry waste and microbial consortium. The different treatment combinations used in the present study were Control, T1 (Coir pith + Cow dung + Vegetable market waste + Poultry waste + mixed microbial culture (Trichoderma viridae + Pleurotus sajar caju), T2 (Coir pith + Vegetable market waste + Poultry waste + Tank slit + Mixed microbial culture) and T3 (Coir pith + Cow dung + poultry waste + tank slit + mixed microbial culture). At the end of 12th week, in the treatment T1, C: N ratio of 21.8:1 was observed in the composted coir pith sample. Highest P content of 0.47% and K content of 1.2% and the least Cellulose and Lignin contents of 22.8% and 10.03% were recorded in the T1 treatment after a composting period of 12 weeks. Highest pH of 7.4 was observed in the treatment T3, this was followed by T1 (7.2) treatment.

Land Suitability Analysis for Orange & Pineapple: A Multi Criteria Decision Making Approach Using Geo Spatial Technology  [PDF]
Pratibha T. Das, S. Sudhakar
Journal of Geographic Information System (JGIS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jgis.2014.61005
Abstract:

Land evaluation procedure given by FAO for soil site suitability for various land utilization types for rainfed agriculture has been used to assess the land suitability for khasi mandarin orange and pineapple in East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya. The database on soil and land use/land cover was generated from IRS-P6 remote sensing satellite data, soil survey and laboratory analysis of soil samples to perform an integrated analysis in the Geographic Information System environment. Different soil chemical parameters and physical parameters were considered to evaluate soil site suitability for orange & pineapple. Different thematic layers were derived from soil map by using ArcGIS software. Subsequently all of them were overlaid and integrated in GIS environment and suitability criteria was applied to the resulted composite map and generated land suitability map for orange and pineapple. The result indicated that the soil sites of the study area are highly to marginally suitable for mandarin orange whereas it is marginally suitable for pineapple. The study reveals that highly suitable areas for orange are found in the Cherapunjee and Mawsynram area that covers 34.5 Sq.Km areas. Moderately suitable (37% of TGA) and marginally suitable (24% of TGA) areas are found only because of slope constraint (8%-30% slope). The hills with deep gorges and ravines on the southern portion of the district is found not suitable for orange plantation because of steep slopes (>30%) and stoniness. Land suitability analysis for pineapple showed that 81% area of total geographical area of the district is marginally suitable and 19% area is not suitable to support the crop. The district is marginally suitable because of topography (slope and erosion), soil fertility (base saturation and CEC) and climate.

Is the RENP Process Probable for a Xe Atom Embedded in Quantum Solid?  [PDF]
S. T. Nakagawa, Y. Senju
Journal of Applied Mathematics and Physics (JAMP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jamp.2014.29097
Abstract:

We studied the excitation spectra in the case of Xe@(p-H2)n embedded in a solid-state parahydrogen, making use of the ab initio molecular orbital method (QMO), in order to seek the possibility of the radiative emission of the neutrino pair (RENP) process that may be associated with the E1 × M1 transition processes. By means of a QMO calculation, the remarkable matrix effect was found in the structure of the electronic states. Three E1-type excitation bands (ε1, ε2, ε3, in the order of increasing energy) in the UV absorption were found. In the present preliminary calculation, the second was too close to be clearly/well distinguished as an independent peak observed in the last experiment. Nevertheless, across the second (ε2) band, two associated bands that may link to the M1-type transition were found. Therefore, the M1-type de-excitation process may be probable with the help of intensity borrowing from the ε2 band, which may support the probability of the RENP process.

Performance Analysis of PI and Fuzzy Control for Modified LCC Resonant Converter Incorporating Boost Converter  [PDF]
N. Madhanakkumar, T. S. Sivakumaran
Circuits and Systems (CS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/cs.2016.76072
Abstract: In this paper, the modified LCC type of series-parallel Resonant Converter (RC) was designed and state-space modeling analysis was implemented. In this proposed converter, one leg of full bridge diode rectifier is replaced with Synchronous Rectifier (SR) switches. The proposed LCC converteris controlled using frequency modulation in the nominal state. During hold-up time, the SRswitches control is changed from in-phase to phase-shifted gate signal to obtain high DC voltage conversion ratio. Furthermore, the closed loop PI and fuzzy provide control on the output side without decreasing the switching frequency. The parameter such as conduction loss on primary and secondary side, switching loss, core and copper also reduced. Simultaneously, the efficiency is increased about 94.79 is realized by this scheme. The proposed converter with an input of 40 V is built to produce an output of 235 V with the help of ZVS boost converter[1]even under line and load disturbances. As a comparison, the closed loop fuzzy controller performance is feasible and less sensitive than PI controller.

S. Kareemunnisa Begum, T. Harinarayana
Open Journal of Earthquake Research (OJER) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojer.2016.53015
Abstract: A wide band (1000 - 0.001 Hz) magnetotelluric study has been taken up in the Bhuj earthquake epicentral zone and 21 sites have been occupied along three profiles during March-April 2001 to understand the deep structure of the region. In addition the region surrounding Bhuj has been probed earlier with number of MT profiles and the subsurface structure is well constrained from hydrocarbon exploration point of view besides seismotectonic studies. In the present study, the results obtained along 130 km long profile from Mundra to Rapar oriented in NE-SW direction passing through the epicenter are presented considering these two databases. The subsurface structure has shown interesting correlation with the surface deformations, a new basement configuration and associated seismotectonics of the region. Our main result is relating the basement configuration and surface ruptures.
Analysis of Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Current Source Multilevel Inverter  [PDF]
D. Tamilarasi, T. S. Sivakumaran
Circuits and Systems (CS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/cs.2016.711295
Abstract: The paper proposes a Current Source Multilevel Inverter (CSMLI) with single rating inductor topology. Multilevel inverters are most familiar with power converters applications due to reduced dv/dt, di/dt stress, and very efficient for reducing harmonic distortion in the output voltage and output current. The proposed nine-level current source inverter has been tested under symmetrical and asymmetrical modes of operation, and their activities are compared using PI and Fuzzy PI (Proportional Integral) controllers with multicarrier PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) strategy. MATLAB/Simulink simulation has been made for the proposed converter to obtain its performance measures. Some experimental results are given to verify the presented Current Source Multilevel Inverter.
