História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59701999000100002
Abstract: while robert merton approached the issue from the perspective of "scientific ethos" and thomas kuhn, from the perspective of "paradigm/normal science," this comparative analysis of these two author?s conceptions of the social nature of science suggests that their views merged particularly when they argued that taking values into account was essential to understanding scientific activities. placing prime importance on the notion of scientific community, these authors both analyze science as a practice which is defined and developed out of a set of beliefs, principles, and norms shared by a given collectivity. while there were some substantive differences between merton?s and kuhn?s outlooks - each had his own unique way of defining ?social? in the context of science - a comparison of their work underlines the importance of seeing institutionalized beliefs and values as essential in guiding the concrete actions of scientists.

Abstract: a relevant series of symmetric supramolecular porphyrins has been obtained by attaching four [ru ii(bipy)2cl] groups to the pyridyl substituents of meso-tetra(4-pyridyl)porphyrin and its metallated derivatives. these compounds display a rich electrochemistry and versatile catalytic, electrocatalytic and photochemical properties, associated with the ruthenium-bipyridine and the porphyrin complexes. these properties can be transferred to the electrodes by attaching thin molecular films of the compounds, by dip-coating, electrostatic assembly or electropolymerization. in this way, the interesting properties of those supermolecules and supramolecular assemblies can be used to prepare molecular devices and sensors.

Abstract: the maximum diversity problem (mdp) consists of, given a set n with n elements, selecting a subset m ì n such that the elements of m have the most possible diversity among them. the mdp belongs to the class of np-hard problems limiting the exclusive use of exact methods and turning attractive the development of heuristics to solve the problem. in this work we propose constructive and local search heuristics which are used in different versions of grasp (greedy randomized adaptive search procedure). we also analyze the impact of this heuristics in the grasp performance. computational results show that the proposed algorithms always find an optimal solution when this one is known and, for larger instances, produce an average performance better than well known versions of grasp from the literature.

Abstract: Time Management has been a topic of high relevance, and subject of extensive discussion, especially in the corporate world. Since the first studies of Classical Administration, as for example the "Motion and Time Study," conducted by Taylor, at the time of the Industrial Revolution, through the Technological Revolution in the early 1990s until today, there have always been questions about how it would be possible to better manage time. The challenge is not to manage time, but relationships managed by professionals. The aim of this study was to understand how the adoption of techniques of Time Management can serve as a tool for increasing productivity and balance the career versus personal life. The literature review was supported by a survey in two stages. The first step applied as descriptive, with the intention of identifying what were called "time wasters" most common within the sample surveyed and diagnose the profile time management of all the participants. In the later stage, we performed a case study, in which, for a period of 30 days, voluntary participants were instructed to use some tools such as software and forms available on the market for organization and effective time management. The results proved that a considerable number of people do not know how to manage and take their time and suffering from the negative effects of work overload and lack of motivation that is constantly tied to this scenario. The outcome of the case study found that the tools of organization and time management are available and promote good improvement in how you manage time. But you need commitment and discipline that uses these mechanisms, since the change in how they manage their time is primarily a behavioral change.

Abstract: This paper describes the digestive system of Caiman crocodilus, Melanosuchus niger and Paleosuchus palpebrosus based on anatomical and topographical inferences. The study involves two digestive systems of C. crocodilus, one of M. niger and one of P. palpebrosus, already fixed in 10% formaldehyde, belonging to the collection of the Wild Animal Research Laboratory (LAPAS) of the Federal University of Uberlandia. The work begins with a description of the digestive system of the aforementioned crocodilians, followed by topographical associations, aided by photographs taken with a SONY DSC-H20 camera, X-rays of the gastrointestinal tract and a photograph of the digestive system of C. crocodilus prior to formaldehyding, which also belong to the LAPAS collection. The results indicate that the digestive system of crocodilians consists of a wide mouth, short pharynx, long straight esophagus, dilated stomach in relation to the rest of the tract, pancreas lodged between the first two ventral duodenal loops, coiled small intestine, large intestine with diameter larger than the preceding segments, and cloaca as the terminal portion of the digestive, urinary and reproductive systems. The anatomical and topographical description of the digestive system of C. crocodilus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Crocodylia: Alligatoridae), M. niger (Spix, 1825) (Crocodylia: Alligatoridae) and P. palpebrosus (Cuvier, 1807) (Crocodylia: Alligatoridae) can be extended to the other crocodilians due to interspecies and intraspecific behavioral similarities.
