Abstract: The article evaluated the degradation of the captopril in aqueous solution after ozonation and chlorination. The process was continuously monitored focusing on the identification, mass spectrometry and elucidation of its by-products by applying direct infusion and high performance liquid chromatography, electrospray ionization high resolution mass spectrometry, in the negative ion mode. The cytotoxicity of its by-products solutions were evaluated with 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. It was observed through that after 30 min of ozonation and chlorination, there was complete oxidation of captopril, i.e., 100% removal efficiency. At these conditions, the rate of mineralization, by total organic carbon, was only 7.63% for ozonation and 6.40% for chlorination, evidencing the formation of degradation by-products. Ten captopril by-products were identified and their respective chemical structures elucidations are proposed. The treated samples and their by-products were nontoxic to HepG2 cells by MTT assay.

Abstract: this paper investigated the influence of using yeast extract, which is the source of redox mediators riboflavin and nicotinamide, in the decolorization of solutions containing the azo dye drimaren blue hf-rl in anaerobic conditions. it involved the incubation of serum bottles kept at 25 oc and inoculated with the azo-dye, and anaerobic sludge in the presence and absence of carbon source (glucose or yeast extract) and redox mediators (riboflavin and yeast extract). the monitoring of color, chemical oxygen demand (cod) and volatile fatty acids (vfa) showed that the addition of yeast extract (0.5 g/l) resulted in 80 to 85% color removal in the first 24 hours of incubation; and that the metabolites of dye degradation were toxic to the anaerobic microorganisms, which led to low cod removal efficiencies either in the presence or absence of yeast extract. the results also showed that the efficiencies of color removal were below 30% in the presence of only glucose or riboflavin, indicating that the yeast extract acted simultaneously as source of carbon and redox mediators.

Abstract: the aggregation behavior of the non-ionic surfactant renex-100 in aqueous solutions and mesophases was evaluated by saxs in a wide range of concentrations, between 20 and 30 °c. complementary, water interactions were defined by dsc curves around 0°c. saxs showed that the system undergoes the following phase transitions, from diluted to concentrated aqueous solutions: 1) isotropic solution of renex aggregates; 2) hexagonal mesophase; 3) lamellar mesophase; and 4) isotropic solution. dsc analysis indicated the presence of interfacial water above 70wt%, which agreed with the segregation of free water to form the structural mesophases observed by saxs bellow this concentration.

Abstract: due to the lack of speech therapists at various regions of brazil to assist patients with cleft lip and palate, new intervention programs must be developed for these individuals. intensive speech therapy has been cited in literature as an alternative modality. this article relates the experience of four cleft lip patients, comparing their speech performances before and after the intensive intervention. the subjects, three adults and one adolescent with compensatory articulatory disorders, were engaged in an intensive summer training program. for each patient, intervention was carried out daily for three hours, during 10 days, divided into individual and group therapy. at the beginning and at the end of that period, patients were assessed by a speech therapist who did not participate in the sessions. a sample of spontaneous speech, counting from 1 to 20 and repetition of a list of words and sentences with oral occlusive and fricative phonemes were recorded on video tape. all patients showed satisfactory development with the intensive therapy program, adapting the worked phonemes in directed speech, but still requiring follow-up therapy to automatize their production. intensive speech therapy was shown to be an efficient and possible alternative in these cases, and could also be a strategy at the beginning of conventional speech intervention.

Abstract: this article focuses on the social representations of health professionals about the introduction of complementary and alternative medical practices in the public health service network in campinas city (sp, brazil). based in an essentially qualitative methodological perspective, the article analyses the general conditions, the problems and the obstacles related to the implementation of such practices. the success of this inclusion was found in four main reasons: the clientele disposition which gives support and demands this kind of service; the health vision of the sanitarian doctors, which is open to such project; the wide support given by the non-medical health professions, which intend to add value and amplify their practice and, finally, the own perspective of the alternative and complementary medicines, which agree with the unified health system (sus) proposals. despite the success in the implementation of such practices in the health basic system, two negative aspects were detected: the insufficient planning and the simplified vision which converts such rationalities in mere techniques, which follow the same mechanistic principles of the allophatic medicine and the same reified understanding of disease.

Abstract: the purpose of this work was a canine visceral leishmaniasis - cvl study by parasitological direct examination of leishmania (l.) chagasi (imprinting and histological), immunohistochemical test and histopathological analysis using spleen tissues from 34 dogs euthanized by the zoonotic disease control centre from ilha solteira, sp, brazil. according to the clinical signs, the dogs were divided in three groups: asymptomatics (8 dogs), oligosymptomatics (17 dogs) and symptomatics (9 dogs). after the accomplishment of all diagnostic tests, 22 dogs were considered positives (64.7%) and 12 (35.3%) were negatives to cvl. from these positive dogs, 1/22 (4.5%) was asymptomatic, 12/22 (54.5%) were oligosymptomatics and 8/22 (40.1%) were symptomatics. the histopathological study in spleen tissues from positive, especially symptomatic dogs, showed a diffuse chronic inflammation with thickness of capsular and trabecular regions and there was extense morphologic alteration of the red and white pulp by the presence of abundant macrophages full with amastigotes, the granulomatous inflammatory reaction and haemorragic areas. the data of this work from histopathologic examination and direct microcopic visualization of l. (l.) chagasi showed that the spleen was an useful organ to collect sample tissues for cvl diagnosis. the immunostaining detected the highest number of positive dogs and were considered an important and conclusive method to be used in addition to parasitological methods for cvl, particularly in asymptomatic or oligosymptomatic dogs.
The territories of the ministry of rural development

Geografia Ensino & Pesquisa , 2011,
Abstract: This paper is a discussion about the category in the territory called Territorial Policies of the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA) and its devices to access land. The developmentalist fallacy that fills the MDA supports the proposals with a speech that presents the countryside as the locus of the delay, which "underdeveloped" permeates the ideals of an environment where the disadvantages persist. The country would be designed according to this logic, as a space with disabilities who require incentives and planning so you can walk on the tracks of development. It is observable, however, that the investment of resources that accelerate the circulation, reproduction and accumulation of capital does not necessarily have contributed to changing the social frameworks in the municipalities that make up the interior of Ceará.

Abstract: Prosthechea is a neotropical genus, belonging to the family Orchidaceae. The Brazil recorded 32 species of the genus of which nine occur in the state of Bahia, including P. silvana and P. moojenii. The first, P. silvana is epiphytic, endemic Atlantic Forest areas of South and Southeast of the Bahia and morphologically similar to P. moojenii, rupicolous species considered endemic to the Chapada Diamantina. There are doubts whether these two species are really distinct, because they differ only as to the way of life and aspects related to the size of the inflorescence and floral structure. Thus the anatomical study of these two species, emerges as a tool that aims to investigate the delimitation of these taxa. For this study, the sheet was cut freehand with a razor blade to obtain cross sections and treated by chemical means to obtain paradermic sections, all the material was stained with safranine/Astra blue (safrablau) and safranin, respectively, and the sections were then mounted between a semipermanent and cover slipped slides. The results allowed to distinguish P. silvana of the P. moojenii through the following characteristics observed in the leaf (thickening of the cell walls of epidermal cells, amount and disposition of sclerenchyma fibers and fiber arrangement of vascular and vascular bundles in the mesophyll) and root (number of arcs of xylem and phloem, thickening of cells median cortex), infers taxonomic characters for the genus. The data indicated anatomical distinction between the two species studied here of the Prosthechea, however, suggest the anatomical analysis of other organs to reproductive and vegetative.
