Abstract: until today, the search for numerical accuracy, capable of being validated, confirmed and reproduced, represents the main form of knowledge construction in several areas of social science. while qualitative research has widened its range and gained distinction, its value is questioned by some researchers who believe that it has neither the same rigour in the collection and analysis of data as quantitative research nor capacity for generalization of the results. in this short essay, an attempt is made to discuss two elements of rigour in qualitative research: validity and reflexivity. firstly, a theoretical review is carried out in an effort to define and discuss the concept of validity, as well as highlight the different interpretations given to the term in different epistemological currents. with regard to the concept of reflexivity, the paper highlights the importance of adopting a critical analysis of science with emphasis on the position and actions of the researcher when performing his/her work and the relation that is established with the subjects under study. to finish, some remarks are offered on the construction of knowledge in the scientific field and the role of researcher.

The term work market permeates a great number of the present-day debates in sociology and economy. However, even though it is common to find texts that attempt to dimension and understand work, as well as explain the changes it has undergone in recent decades, there are few studies that look into the theoretical aspects of the concept and highlight the perspective they are following. In the present study an attempt is made to analyze the concept at different approaches. For this purpose, some of the main approaches towards the term are presented, and their theoretical perspective and possible limitations are highlighted. From the field of economy, the constructions of the classical Keynesian and segmentation theories are considered. After we present the economic sociological approach of social networks and institutional approach. Based on reflections on the potential and limitations of each approach and of the ideas of Bourdieu, an idea for extending the understanding and debate on the term is offered. It is believed that by following this approach it will be possible to extend the debate on the current economic structures. To finish, an outline is made of the how it would be possible to understand the work market in times of mundialization.

Abstract: internships are a form of "organized professional integration", structured at the interface between the educational and productive systems, where the school/university incorporates practical learning aspects within its educational program in order to prepare the socialization for work. in order to understand how these transformations are reflected in the process of joining the labor world, this study aims to analyze the professional integration of management students into the labor market starting from their experiences as interns in porto alegre. a constructivist approach was adopted in the study. interviews were held with 32 students from undergraduate courses in management who reported their experience as interns and highlighting the implications for their professional integration and expectations for a future career. it can be seen from the analysis that, despite their educational characteristics, internships do not always represent the first step towards professional integration, since the interviews reveal that the students' first professional experience is not always related to their graduate course and is normally linked to the search for knowledge of the world of the labor or financial independence from the parents. internships become of central importance, when the young people seek for professional experience related to their educational area. at this point, individual expectations have a notable influence, since in an institutionalized form of integration and within the same group young people various possible paths need to be taken into consideration. it can be seen that there is no single and generalist way of understanding this process, since a number of paths open up as a result of the internship experience, making the concept of professional integration even more difficult to comprehend.

Oliveira, Sidinei Rocha de;Ferreira, Carolina da Silva;
Cadernos EBAPE.BR , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1679-39512007000100007
Abstract: this essay aims at rescuing some aspects of guerreiro ramos, tragtenberg, and prestes motta's thinking. ithighlights how the critical posture and questioning of these authors remain updated when one analyzes the role of the researcher, the influence of burocratic organization in present society, the apparent ingenuousness of administration - hidden behind administrative harmonies and fake participation - and the relevance of considering fundamental aspects of the national culture. the starting point for the development of this work is the experienceof the authors who, despite having different life history, share similar anxieties while moving within the academic and organizational circle. a world where there are allowed questions, "relevant" themes, where those who do not inherit or assume an apprentice attitude, bowing to the "achiever's rules", are continuously questioned.

Inorganic carbon shortage may limit the development of submersed macrophytes in habitats of the Paraná River basin
Freitas, Aline de;Thomaz, Sidinei Magela;
Acta Limnologica Brasiliensia , 2011, DOI: 10.4322/actalb.2011.019
Abstract: aim: in this investigation we carried out an experiment to assess whether the growth of egeria najas and e. densa (two rooted submersed hydrocharitacea, native to south america) are limited by inorganic carbon or not; methods: we measured the early plant growth in 3 l microcosms with alkalinities of 100 μm.l-1 and 500 μm.l-1. these alkalinites represent extremes which are typical of most waters in the upper paraná river basin and they represent low and high inorganic carbon (mainly bicarbonate) availabilities, respectively; results: the elongation of e. densa, and the relative growth rates and root development of both species were significantly higher when they grew in the high alkalinity treatment; conclusions: our results strongly suggest that in several habitats and during certain periods of the year, inorganic carbon shortage may limit the growth of both species. in this sense, phosphorus and nitrogen may assume a secondary role as controlling factors of these plants, because they assimilate these nutrients from sediment, where they are usually found in high concentrations. thus, controlling eutrofication as a strategy to reduce their biomass may not be successful.

Abstract: this study sought to investigate perceptions and feelings in primiparous mothers with hiv/aids, about motherhood, infant development and the mother-infant relationship, during pregnancy and in the third month of life. five seropositive mothers participated, aged between 19 and 37. interviews were conducted to investigate the various aspects of pregnancy and motherhood. an analysis of content was carried out based on three categories: experience of motherhood; infant development; mother-infant relationship. the results indicated concerns about possible infections of the baby, the fear of prejudice and the frustration of not being able to breastfeed. however, satisfaction with motherhood, interaction with the baby and infant development prevailed. hiv/aids does not necessarily have a negative impact on motherhood and the mother-infant relationship, especially when the support of the family, a positive relationship with their own mothers and access to treatment are present. the importance of psychological interventions that may help these mothers to cope, faced with the anxieties associated with hiv/aids and motherhood, is discussed.
