Symmetry and Hamiltonian structure of the scaling equation in isotropic turbulence

Abstract: The assumption of similarity and self-preservation, which permits an analytical determination of the energy decay in isotropic turbulence, has played an important role in the development of turbulence theory for more than half a century. Sedov (1944), who first found an ingenious way to obtain two equations from one. Nonethless, it appears that this problem has never been reinvestigated in depth subsequent to this earlier work. In the present paper, such an analysis is carried out, yielding a much more complete picture of self-preservation isotropic turbulence. Based on these exact solutions, some physically significant consequences of recent advances in the theory of self-preserved homogenous statistical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations are presented. New results could be obtained for the analysis on turbulence features, such as the scaling behavior, the spectrum, and also the large scale dynamics. The general energy spectra and their behavior in different wave number range are investigated. This letter only focus on the scaling equation.

Abstract: Context is an important concept in language study. According to the theory of systemic-functional linguistics, context of situation determines the meaning system of a text, and therefore translation is a process of reestablishing situational context in target language. Since no identical contexts exist, different translation strategies should be made. From this perspective, the problem of translation criteria can be explored in a new way.

Evidence for association of D1S249 locus on human chromosome 1 with the susceptibility to essential hypertension in Han Chinese

Abstract: Essential hypertension (EH) is thought to result from the interaction of environmental and genetic factors. The molecular genetics of EH has witnessed considerable progress during the past few years. However, the number of genes involved, their chromosomal location and the magnitude of their effect on EH susceptibility are unknown. We conducted the present study to screen susceptibility genes to essential hypertension using a genome-wide scanning method in a group of Han people from Fangshan district located in the southwest of Beijing. A case-control study and affected sibpair were performed. Genotyping was carried out using a fluorescence-based semiautomated technique on automated DNA sequencer (ABI 377, PE). The basis for the genome-screen was the ABI prism linkage mapping sets of 400 microsatellite markers (version 2, PE, Co.). PCR for amplification of markers was carried out as multiplex reactions with Ampli Taq gold (PE, Co.) following protocols developed in our laboratory. Data were exported as a text file from genotyper for subsequent two-point affected sibpair linkage analysis. The data from case-control association study showed a linkage disequilibrium between EH and marker D1S249 locus (X 2 = 14.6,P = 0.002). There are 12 alleles in the D1S249 locus. The frequency of A9 allele in hypertension was higher than in normotensives, (13.6% v.s. 2.7%,X 2 = 6.30,p = 0.01, OR = 4.57, 95%CI = 1.24 – 25.4). The data from two-point affected sibpair linkage analysis demonstrated a linkage between EH and A9 allele,P<0.05. It suggested that microsatellite marker D1S249 locus might be associated with the genetic susceptibility to essential hypertension in Han Chinese.
Relationship Between Surface Soil Erosion Rate and Soil Physical Properties in a Mountain Forests-Arid Valley Ecotone

Abstract: Soil erosion is the main cause of land degeneration,and can be considered a natural disaster restricting human survival and development of the global environment. Using field investigations and laboratory analyses,surface soil erosion rate and the relationship between soil erosion rate and soil physical properties in dry valleys of the upper Minjiang River were studied. We found severe soil erosion and an average erosion rate of 27.58% across vegetation types. Soil erosion was the most serious for Robinia pseudoacacia,and minor for the conversion of farmland to Minjiang cypress. The soil erosion rate of Robinia pseudoacacia was 3.28 times that of conversion of farmland to Minjiang cypress. Soil erosion rate was correlated with the structure ped breaking ratio(SPBR). The clay ratios were less than 0.30 for the different vegetation types,and soil coarsening was widespread. Sand and coarse silt content were significantly higher than those of fine silt and clay content,and clay content was lowest. Average organic matter content was 45.73 g/kg for topsoil. Soil erosion rates were correlated with soil organic matter content,>0.25 mm water-stable aggregate content,aggregate mean weight diameter (MWD) and geometric mean diameter (GMD) after wet sieving. The change characteristic of stable aggregate content and organic matter content showed synchronization. Strengthening existing shrub and natural secondary forest protection,reducing human disturbance,and implementing natural recovery would contribute to the accumulation of soil organic matter in the mountain forests-arid valley ecotone. These measures would inhibit the expansion of the dry valley and extend the ecological functions of subalpine forest. This study reveals the essence of soil erosion and provides a theoretical basis for ecological construction and the conversion of farmland to forest.
High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Is a Favorable Prognostic Factor and Negatively Correlated with C-Reactive Protein Level in Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinoma

Abstract: Background Although the alterations of lipid profile in lung cancer have been documented, the prognostic value of serum HDL-C level and its correlation with inflammation in NSCLC remain unknown. Subjects and Methods Levels of preoperative serum lipid concentrations (including HDL-C, LDL-C, TC, and TG) and the inflammatory biomarker C-reactive protein level (CRP) were retrospectively analyzed in 228 patients with NSCLC and in 300 healthy controls. The serum lipid levels in these two populations were compared. Univariate and multivariate cox hazards analyses were performed to investigate the prognostic value of serum lipid levels in NSCLC. The correlation between CRP and lipid profile were also analyzed. Results Compared with those in normal controls, the serum HDL-C, LDL-C, and TC levels were statistically decreased and the TG levels were significantly increased in 228 NSCLC patients. The patients with decreased levels of HDL-C had significantly lower 5-year survival rates than those with normal HDL-C, not only in the whole NSCLC cohort but also in the subgroups stratified according to the disease T, N classifications, and metastasis, whereas the other lipid components were not independent prognostic factors for NSCLC. Of the lipid components, a lower HDL-C level was observed more often in patients with a high CRP level than in those with a normal CRP level. Spearman’s rank correlation analysis revealed that the HDL-C level presented a negative correlation with the CRP level (r = ?0.360, p<0.001). Conclusions A decreased level of preoperative HDL-C was found to be associated with poor survival in patients with NSCLC. Serum HDL-C level may be a clinical prognosis factor for NSCLC patients. In addition, a negative correlation was present between the levels of HDL-C and CRP, the well-known inflammation biomarker.

Abstract: With the trend of economic globalization and localization services, employees are distributed in different regions, the old enterprise information system in closed environment has been difficult to support all the business in enterprises, also cannot meet the need of information sharing between upstream and downstream enterprises and partners in the supply chain. The new business model requires companies to have distributed information systems, remote access and other characteristics. VPN (virtual private network) is high cost and lack of flexibility, Web services-based information system can achieve low-cost real-time collection to process and share distributed information, which is the ideal model of enterprise information system. However, there is a big gap in current usability between the Web services and old desktop applications. This paper combines the usage patterns, business needs of enterprise information systems and technical characteristics of Web services, proposes the usability requirements of enterprise information systems based on Web services from different views of internal users, external customers and strategic partners.

Abstract: In this paper we present a highly pathogenic Avian influenza epidemic model with saturated contact rate. According to study of the dynamics, we calculated the basic reproduction number of the model. Through the analysis of this model, we have the following conclusion: if R0 ≤ 1, there is only one disease-free equilibrium which is globally stable, the disease will die; if R0 > 1, there is only one endemic equilibrium which is globally stable, disease will be popular.
