Automatic Construction Method for Domain Concepts Based on Wikipedia Semantic Knowledge Base  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper proposes a method to construct conceptual semantic knowledge base of software engineering domain based on Wikipedia. First, it takes the concept of SWEBOK V3 as the standard to extract the interpretation of the concept from the Wikipedia, and extracts the keywords as the concept of semantic; Second, through the conceptual semantic knowledge base, it is formed by the relationship between the hierarchical relationship concept and the other text interpretation concept in the Wikipedia. Finally, the semantic similarity between concepts is calculated by the random walk algorithm for the construction of the conceptual semantic knowledge base. The semantic similarity of knowledge base constructed by this method can reach more than 84%, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified.
Tele-Immersive Interaction with Intelligent Virtual Agents Based on Real-Time 3D Modeling

Abstract: To enable intelligent agents interacting smoothly with human users, researchers have been deploying novel interaction modalities (e.g. non-verbal cue, vision and touch) in addition to agents’ conversational skills. Models of multi-modality interaction can enhance agents’ real-time perception, cognition and reaction towards the user. In this paper we report a novel tele-immersive interaction system developed using real-time 3D modelling techniques. In such system user’s full body is reconstructed using multi-view cameras and CUDA based visual hull reconstruction algorithm. User’s mesh model is then loaded into a virtual environment for interacting with an autonomous agent. Technical details and initial results of the system are illustrated in this paper. Following that a novel interaction scenario is proposed which links the virtual agent with a remote physical robot who takes the role of mediating interactions between two geographically separated users. Finally we discuss in depth the implications of such human-agent interaction and possible future improvements and directions.
Combining Genome Wide Association Studies and Differential Gene Expression Data Analyses Identifies Candidate Genes Affecting Mastitis Caused by Two Different Pathogens in the Dairy Cow  [PDF]

Abstract: Mastitis is a costly disease which hampers the dairy industry. Inflammation of the mammary gland is commonly caused by bacterial infection, mainly Escherichia coli, Streptococcus uberis and Staphylococcus aureus. As more bacteria become multi-drug resistant, one potential approach to reduce the disease incidence rate is to breed selectively for the most appropriate and potentially protective innate immune response. The genetic contribution to effective disease resistance is, however, difficult to identify due to the complex interactions that occur. In the present study two published datasets were searched for common differentially expressed genes (DEGs) with similar changes in expression in mammary tissue following intra-mammary challenge with either E. coli or S. uberis. Additionally, the results of seven published genome-wide association studies (GWAS) on different dairy cow populations were used to compile a list of SNPs associated with somatic cell count. All genes located within 2 Mbp of significant SNPs were retrieved from the Ensembl database, based on the UMD3.1 assembly. A final list of 48 candidate genes with a role in the innate immune response identified from both the DEG and GWAS studies was further analyzed using Ingenuity Pathway Analysis. The main signalling pathways highlighted in the response of the bovine mammary gland to both bacterial infections were 1) granulocyte adhesion and diapedesis, 2) ephrin receptor signalling, 3) RhoA signalling and 4) LPS/IL1 mediated inhibition of RXR function. These pathways comprised a network regulating the activity of leukocytes, especially neutrophils, during mammary gland inflammation. The timely and properly controlled movement of leukocytes to infection loci seems particularly important in achieving a good balance between pathogen elimination and excessive tissue damage. These results suggest that polymorphisms in key genes in these pathways such as SELP, SELL, BCAR1, ACTR3, CXCL2, CXCL6, CXCL8 and FABP may influence the ability of dairy cows to resist mastitis.
Association between Single Nucleotide Polymorphism in RelA with Somatic Cell Count and Longevity Supports Importance of NF-κB Signalling in Cattle Health  [PDF]

Abstract: Mastitis reduces milk production and causes culling. The NF-κB transcription factor RelA plays a central regulatory role in innate immunity. This study used a candidate gene approach to investigate associations between the synonymous C/G SNP rs48035703 in RELA with somatic cell count (SCC) and survival time. Blood samples were collected from 337 Holstein-Friesian heifers on 19 farms and genotyped by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Animals were monitored from 6 months until 2340 d of age. Pedigree, milk production and disease records were obtained. Genotype frequencies were CC 0.63, CG 0.30 and GG 0.06. The C allele had a favourable additive effect on survival: average longevities from birth were CC, 1872 d; CG, 1745 d and GG 1596 d (P < 0.003). Log transformed first lactation somatic cell count (SCC)data showed a significant association with this SNP using an allele substitution model (mean residuals ± SD: GG 0.30 ± 1.263; CG 0.22 ± 0.994, CC -0.04 ± 0.803, P < 0.05). More CC cows than expected were classified as intermediate and fewer as mastitic (30.4% v 45.9%) with respect to SCC class when categorised as 0 (unaffected), 1 (intermediate) and 2 (mastitic), whereas for CG heterozygotes fewer were intermediate and more were mastitic (12.1% v 60.3%) (p = 0.05). RELA rs48035703 CC genotype cows were therefore less likely to experience a high SCC and survived longer. These results support a role for RelA in combating mammary gland infection and warrant further studies in additional populations.

Abstract: As an effective means to solve social problems, social entrepreneurship has received extensive attention from academic and practical circles. Although social entrepreneurship research has achieved great development in the past decade, the research results in various fields are still scattered and lack of a systematic logical framework, which hinders its rapid growth into a more potential research field. Combining the Timmons entrepreneurial model with Shane and Venkataraman’s entrepreneurial opportunity process research ideal, we take the sources, identification and utilization of social entrepreneurship opportunities as the basis, and at the same time contact with social entrepreneurship subjects and resources to deeply explore the interaction and dynamic balance between various elements from the perspective of entrepreneurship process. Then, we explore the constructive integration analysis framework of social entrepreneurship, which has important theoretical and practical significance for further deepening and expanding social entrepreneurship research.
Growth, structure and upconversion mechanisms of Ba2ErCl7 crystal

Abstract: The methods to grow a novel upconversion crystal Ba2ErCl7 are reported in this note. Ba2ErCl7 material was synthesized with Er2O3, BaCl2·2H2O and NH4Cl by using a so-called “direct synthesis method”. High quality Ba2ErCl7 single crystals with size up to 4 mm×8 mm×15 mm were grown by using the Czochralski and the Bridgman methods. Intense yellow-green luminescence was detected when the crystal was pumped by an 803 laser diode (LD). Transmittance spectrum was measured by using HITACH U-3500 spectrophotometer at room temperature for the first time, in which one can see that the transmittance is high in the range from 350 to 1 600 nm and the cut-off wavelength of the crystal was 230 nm. The upconversion mechanisms were discussed.

Abstract: Volumetric visual hull reconstruction is easy to be implemented without complicated geometrical computation, but its accuracy and efficiency are still unsatisfactory. A parallel optimized visual hull modeling method is proposed based on CUDA and marching cubes. It parallelizes the voxel intersection judgment procedure and the isosurface extraction procedure, and implements both of them using multiple threads of CUDA to accelerate the reconstruction. During marching cubes process, exact intersection points are calculated and redundant computation of edges is eliminated. The pixel shader is used to carry out the hybrid weight texture mapping so as to enhance the quality of the reconstructed mesh model. Experimental results on the multi-camera platform DreamWorld have proved that this method can reconstruct multiple dynamic objects accurately in real time.
Nitrogen removal via nitrite from municipal landfill leachate

Abstract: A system consisting of a two-stage up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB),an anoxic/aerobic (A/O) reactor and a sequencing batch reactor (SBR),was used to treat landfill leachate.During operation,denitrification and methanogenesis took place simultaneously in the first stage UASB (UASB1),and the effluent chemical oxygen demand (COD) was further removed in the second stage UASB (UASB2).Then the denitrification of nitrite and nitrate in the returned sludge by using the residual COD was accomplished in the A/O reactor,and ammonia was removed via nitrite in it.Last but not least,the residual ammonia was removed in SBR as well as nitrite and nitrate which were produced by nitrification.A system consisting of a two-stage UASB and an A/O reactor was used to achieve the stable short-cut nitrification in the first stage (60 d).The effluent of stage one was treated by SBR in the second stage (60 d).The results over 120 d were as follows: when the total nitrogen (TN) concentration of influent leachate was about 2500 mg/L and the ammonia nitrogen concentration was about 2000 mg/L,the short-cut nitrification with 85%-90% nitrite accumulation was achieved stably in the A/O reactor.The TN and ammonia nitrogen removal efficiencies of the system were 98% and 97%,respectively.The residual ammonia,nitrite and nitrate which were produced by nitrification in the A/O reactor could be washed out almost completely in SBR.The TN and ammonia nitrogen concentrations of final effluent were about 39 mg/L and 12 mg/L,respectively.

Abstract: With the day-to-day data of 850 hPa zonal wind using IAP9L AGCM of the integration period of 10 years, by applying the method of Morlet wavelet analysis, we have investigated temporal and spatial features of Madden and Julian Oscillation(MJO). It is shown that the model can describe the basic MJO feature of tropical lower-troposphere, the good correlation coefficient of cycle and propagation direction between the model output, In the latter, using the 850 hPa velocity potential of the EOF analysis model, we have found that MJO have the character of one wave and two waves in planetary scale of global area.
