Abstract: several enzymes that contribute to immune system responses require zinc and copper as trace elements for their activity. we examined zinc and copper levels in two susceptible balb/c mouse lines and resistant c57bl/6 mice infected with leishmania major mrho/ir/75/er, a prevalent strain that causes cutaneous leishmaniasis in iran. serum zn and cu were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. higher cu levels were found in infected c57bl/6 mice and higher zn levels were found in infected balb/c mice. also, cu/zn ratios were increased in both the balb/c and the c57bl/6 mice. we conclude that concentrations of essential trace elements vary during cutaneous leishmaniasis infection and that this variation is associated with susceptibility/resistance to leishmania major in balb/c and c57bl/6 mice. we detected zn deficiency in the plasma of infected balb/c mice; possibly, therapeutic administration of zn would be useful for treating this form of leishmaniasis. increases in cu level might increase resistance to leishmaniasis. based on our findings, the cu/zn ratio could be a useful marker for the pathophysiology of leishmaniasis.
Adsorption of Cerium (IV) from Aqueous Solutions Using Activated Carbon Developed from Rice Straw  [PDF]

Open Journal of Geology (OJG) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojg.2016.63017
Abstract: In this study, the adsorption of Cerium from synthetic solution containing cerium oxide is investigated using activated carbon developed from rice straw that is activated by H3PO4. SEM and FTIR techniques are used to examine structural and morphological characteristics of rice straw and activated carbon. The optimum conditions obtained with the highest adsorption include contact time = 500 minutes, pH = 4, temperature = 35°C, cerium concentration = 300 ppm, and adsorbent dosage = 0.02 gr. The highest adsorption of Cerium is determined by 4.13 mg/g. Adsorption kinetics of cerium and equilibrium behavior is studied. It indicates that the adsorption process obeys Pseudo-first-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model. The results of this study show that the activated carbon developed from rice straw activated by H3PO4 is a relatively effective adsorbent for the adsorption of cerium from aqueous solution.
Introduction of Ophiolitic Complex Rock Series in the 1:100,000 Sheet of Mianrahan (West of Iran)  [PDF]

Open Journal of Marine Science (OJMS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojms.2016.64043
Abstract: The Mianrahan’s ophiolitic complex out crops in the northeast of Kermanshah and along with the Zagros thrust zone. In Mianrahan sheet, these ophiolites are located along the NW-SE and parallel to the Zagros Thrust in the ground. The rocks of this ophiolite complex consist of peridotite, serpentinites, gabbro, dolerite dykes, basaltic lavas associated with marine sediments containing the cretaceous limestones, siliceous limestones and radiolarites. Stratification of this ophiolitic complex is similar to lithological facies sequence of the oceanic crust. However, in some parts, it could be seen as scattered and melanged in the ground. Petrographic study of Mianrahan’s ophiolitic complex started with the ultramafic sequence and followed by sedimentary rocks.

A RANDOMISED TRIAL OF LIQUID PARAFFIN VERSUS LACTULOSE IN THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC FUNCTIONAL CONSTIPATION IN CHILDREN
F. Farahmand
Acta Medica Iranica , 2007,
Abstract: "nLiquid paraffin has been suggested as a good laxative comparing to lactulose as a treatment option in pediatric constipation. This study was performed to compare liquid paraffin with lactulose in pediatric constipation. A total of 247 patients (127 males and 120 females) aged 2-12 years (mean 4.1 ± 2.7 years) with chronic functional constipation were included in an 8 week, randomized, controlled trial. After faecal disimpaction, patients received oral liquid paraffin (1-2 cc/kg/day) or lactulose (1-2 cc/kg/day). Primary outcome measures were: defecation and encopresis frequency per week and successful treatment after 8 weeks. Success was defined as a defecation frequency ≥ 3 per week and encopresis ≤ 1 every two weeks. Secondary outcome measures were side effects during 8 weeks of treatment. A significant increase in defecation frequency, liquid paraffin group, 3 pre, versus, 12 post treatment per week and lactulose group: 3 pre, versus 8 post, per week was found. A significant decrease in encopresis frequency, liquid paraffin: 10 pre, versus 1 post per week; lactulose: 9 pre, versus 3 post per week, was found in both groups. However success was significantly higher in the liquid paraffin group (85%) compared with the lactulose group (29%). Liquid paraffin patients reported less abdominal pain, straining and pain at defecation than children using lactulose. Liquid paraffin is more effective than lactulose in the treatment of chronic functional constipation of childhood. It provided a higher success rate with fewer side effects. Liquid paraffin should be the laxative of first choice in childhood functional constipation.

International Journal of Stochastic Analysis , 1997, DOI: 10.1155/s1048953397000324
Abstract: Let T0 (x),T1 (x),…,Tn (x) be a sequence of normalized Legendre polynomials orthogonal with respect to the interval ( 1,1). The asymptotic estimate of the expected number of real zeros of the random polynomial g0T0 (x)+g1T1 (x)+…+gnTn (x) where gj, j=1,2,…,n are independent identically and normally distributed random variables with mean zero and variance one is known. The present paper considers the case when the means and variances of the coefficients are not all necessarily equal. It is shown that in general this expected number of real zeros is only dependent on variances and is independent of the means.

International Journal of Stochastic Analysis , 1990, DOI: 10.1155/s1048953390000235
Abstract: This paper provides an upper estimate for the variance of the number of real zeros of the random trigonometric polynomial g1cosθ+g2cos2θ+…+gncosnθ. The coefficients gi(i=1,2,…,n) are assumed independent and normally distributed with mean zero and variance one.
